I believe the Dawgs need to just leave their coaches at home, they SUCK! They won tonight because of HEART, not because of coaching!

They did show a lot of heart when the game was on the line ! Did a good job in the 4th. Corner was all over the place !

Should be a good game next week !

Mark it down, neither the Richlands/Tazewell or Richlands/Graham games will be close folks. Richlands may hang 60 on somebody.
ill guarantee that Richands will put up 60 against graham...they are just terrible this year...bout time we get a new head ball coach....

Tazewell dominates in fourth quarter

By LARRY HYPES

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

ABINGDON — Cody Lockhart threw 48 passes, but his big first down run put Tazewell in position to win.

The Bulldogs outscored Abingdon 19-0 in the 4th quarter to grab a 33-21 Southwest District victory Friday.

Lathel Mountain scored on a 3-yard pass from Lockhart with 2:20 left for the winning points, moments after Lockhart’s 6-yard run for a key first down and an 11 yard scamper to the 3 put Tazewell (3-2, 1-1) in position for the win.

Jon Corner had an amazing evening for the Bulldogs as well, with a pass interception, a blocked PAT, a fumble to set up a touchdown and recovery of an onside kick.

Josh Mitchem’s 11-yard TD catch with 41 seconds left in the opening quarter pushed Tazewell to a 7-6 lead and capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive in which the Bulldogs twice had fourth down conversions.

Abingdon (1-3, 0-2) had grabbed the early lead on a 19-yard scoring pass from Jacob Hess to Caleb Widener. Dustin Dean rolled over from the 1 for the next THS touchdown and Luke Allison’s extra point made it 14-6 with 2:50 left in the second quarter.

Zac Crosswhite then scored on a 1-yard touchdown run on the following Falcon drive. Clark Case booted the PAT from 35 yards out as Abingdon pulled to within one, 14-13, by halftime.

Alex Nadler’s interception return to the 1 set up the touchdown plunge by Hess to give the Falcons a 19-14 edge. They increased that to 21-14 with a safety following two 15 yard penalties against the Bulldogs.

Tazewell’s defense then came to life and held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way.

Mountain, who scored twice in fourth stanza, raced 35 yards and broke 3 tackles inside the 20 for the touchdown to pull THS to within one, 21-20. Corner then recovered an onside kick at midfield but the Bulldog drive stalled on the Falcon 15.

Mountain’s next touchdown was the 3-yard game-winner as THS moved in front 26-21.

On the kickoff, Corner hit the receiver and recovered the fumble for Tazewell on the 26. Mikal Moore pushed forward for 7 yards and then raced 19 yards on his second carry to set up a 1st and goal at the 1. Two plays later, Moore galloped four yards for the final touchdown with 1:28 to play.

Tyler Crouse effectively ended the suspense with a Bulldog interception at midfield with one minute to play.

“We finally started playing our kind of football in the fourth quarter,†said Bulldog coach Bobby Wyatt “and it seemed like we got over our road problems. Players like Cody (Lockhart), Lathel (Mountain) and Jon (Corner) really stepped up when we had to have some big plays. I thought our defense in the second half made it possible for us to have a chance to win.â€

Lockhart finished with 22 completions for 308 yards and three touchdown passes. He rushed for 52 yards to lead in that category. Mountain caught nine passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Mitchem caught eight passes for 89 yards, including a touchdown, and rushed five times for 32. Corey Beavers had 3 receptions totaling 60 yards.

Hess was 12-30 for 193 yards including five passes to Spencer for 90 yards.

Defensively Zach Pauley, Crouse, Tivo Wilborn, D’alo Brady, Juwan Stout and Shaquille McDonald were among the Bulldog keys on defense.

Tazewell hosts Richlands next Friday at Witten Field.
