Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) That's downright scary, and ridiculous. I have never understood what would possess a someone to do something like this, especially near a middle school. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved here. Going on a tangent here: http://www.wvva.com/ And I quote: "The Tazewell County Sheriff's Department is on the scene near Tazewell County Middle School after reports of possible shots fired." Wow. The school is 20 freaking miles away from the news studio. The lack of simple attention to detail from the birdcage-lining local media here is astounding. Just, wow... tbgfan 856 Report Share Posted August 18, 2010 Pullled from another website Tazewell City Police said the scare was caused by a man shooting at a coyote. TAZEWELL, Va.-- Tazewell County Police Chief Brian Hieatt said five shots were fired around 1 p.m. Tuesday near Tazewell Middle School. The school was placed on lockdown. Hieatt said it turns out a neighbor was firing shots at a coyote. No one was injured. There were no students in the building. Faculty and staff were working inside when the shots were fired. Hieatt said the man did not violate the law by shooting at the animal, but could face charges because the shots strayed so close to the school. The man's name has not been released yet. Tazewell County Schools Superintendent, Brenda Lawson, said the incident will not impact the start of school on Thursday. a concerned citizen North Tazewell, VA Life has many choices---eternity two
Hacker 82 Report Share Posted August 18, 2010 I was told the guy is a retired trooper. I would think their training included figuring where any rounds not hitting the target would land.
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 I was told the guy is a retired trooper. I would think their training included figuring where any rounds not hitting the target would land. It does. They take extensive, laborious firearm training. But why 5 shots to down a coyote, which is just an overgrown dog? Seems like 3-4 too many... mrb 26 Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 Not when one is on the run.
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 Not when one is on the run. Shot #1 ideally happens when the animal's pretty stationary. You better have a quick trigger finger, or else you won't get shot #2.
