Dick_Vitale 342 Report Share Posted February 3, 2016 Does any one know how the Region for basketball is set up? With the addition of the "QuarterFinals" back I am uncertain of how they will do it. TIA Tentatively looking like out of 39 will be Richlands/Graham, 40 GC/Union, 37-?, 38 Mavahi/?

Dick_Vitale 342 Author Report Share Posted February 3, 2016 With 8 teams still making Region, how does the Quarterfinal's come into play? Also where is West Region D1 and D2 locations this year? Last year Richlands hosted D2 and Lebanon hosted D1
pdfan 101 Report Share Posted February 3, 2016 What we were told, 37-38 1's will play the 2's at home as will 39-40. Then the winners will play at UVa-Wise in the region semis and depending on who wins Wise will host the finals also. Dick_Vitale

swva_havok_fan 1,261 Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 Ok, I am confused... Wasn't the regionals always 8 teams?
pdfan 101 Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 Top 2 teams from each conference advance to regionals, 4 conferences equals 8 teams.

swva_havok_fan 1,261 Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 Top 2 teams from each conference advance to regionals, 4 conferences equals 8 teams. That's what I am saying. This is how it's always been.
Dick_Vitale 342 Author Report Share Posted February 4, 2016 I do not think anyone has contested that they have changed how many teams get into Region play, more so how they will incorporate the QuarterFinal games again.
Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted February 5, 2016 How have they "added" a quarterfinal round? A quarterfinal round before the semis has been played in the previous years.
Dick_Vitale 342 Author Report Share Posted February 5, 2016 In theory there was always a round where only 8 teams were left playing. [4 from the west and 4 from the east]. This round was referred to as Regional Semifinals last year.
Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted February 5, 2016 8 teams from the west and 8 from the east, 3 rounds (quarters, semis, finals). I believe you may be thinking about the State tournament set up, where you go straight to the semifinals now instead of a quarterfinal round. Regional tournament from last year.... http://www.swvasports.com/ipb/index.php?/topic/33884-boys-western-regional-tournaments/ Regional from '14 http://www.swvasports.com/ipb/index.php?/topic/33193-boys-western-regional-brackets/ '15 State tournament.. http://www.swvasports.com/ipb/index.php?/topic/33909-boys-va-state-tournament-brackets-1a-4a/
