Great show...The ATW Crew is hilarious. Some of my favorites...

-Discussing the Rye Cove nickname controversy Brian: Technically they're the "Eagles", but at one time a lot of people called them "War Eagles"  Greg: What's the difference?  Brian: "War"

-Crigger: "THE HURLEY MEAT MARKET 'No One Beats Hurley's Meat'"

-Crigger's 2A Top 5 included "The Big R" and "Gate City" but not Union

-Brian: "Next up Narzzz at Chil-HI-uh"

But nothing tops Crigger's extraordinary knowledge of Virginia geography.

-Discussing Galax @ Carroll and Fort @ Radford Crigger: "Why are we talking about them? They're too far from Southwest Virginia"

-Discussing Tazewell @ Colonial Heights Crigger: "Colonial Heights...That's up in Roanoke"

Sarge Reed in 83 I believe it was put the WAR onto Eagles and the nickname mostly stuck for football only, but it became common to see media throw it on other sports teams as well.  War went along well with a coach named Sarge and the style of play he wanted to implement, of being more physical than the opponent.  War Eagles would lead to War Birds, Dirty Birds or if you were from Twin Springs, the War Chickens.  When Sarge left in 90, War Eagles was mostly dropped until 97 when he returned as an assistant.  It once again began to fall away when he left.  The basketball team created a War Eagles jersey a couple of years ago and now its starting to come back.  The softball team even plans to use it this year.
