BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 I think every school in SWVA will (and should) eventually drop.
taz_11 10 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 I think it will become Tazewell East and Tazewell West before long, and i think Tazewell and Graham are too proud to drop to A. I heard Grundy was going to drop though?
BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 I don't think it's about pride. If they could all drop together I think they would. I doubt TC East and TC West (or any of the other plans) will ever happen unless the TCSB chooses one plan and goes with it. They can't seem to make up their mind about what they want to do and it's impossible to move forward that way.
cityofRaven 2,453 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 the only reason keeping grundy from dropping now is wrestling
taz_11 10 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 Yea but i think having an East and West is more likely to happen than us dropping.

I heard Grundy was going to drop though? [/ QUOTE ] I don't forsee Tazewell Co. shelling out the MEGA-MILLIONS to build two new schools anytime soon...School Admins are already starting to recognize that the "smaller schools" can't compete at the State level with the rest of Class AA...most of the smaller schools already play a more-or-less Class A schedule in just about every sport with a few exceptions. Dropping down will happen and I think Richlands is the "key" to all of this. If their enrollment either remains steady or continues to decrease, as are most schools in SWVA, they will be a Class A size school soon...the cutoff number this year was 737, Richlands has less than 60 more students than the cut-off number. And with the opening of several new AA sized schools in NOVA and Hampton Roads, and the continued growth of the current AA sized schools in those areas, the cut-off number will only increase in the future. It won't be long before Abingdon is the only legitimate AA sized school west of the New River Valley.

olewave 44 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 it is called loyality to the schools on this side of the mountain that started the swd. wrestling has nothing to do with it. they will be able to schedule more of the out of state teams. it will happen when the time comes. cityofRaven 2,453 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 in my opinion everybody should drop and take the old SWD to single a, bring back gate city, lebanon, and put honaker in the mix somewhere, get rid of carroll all together

[/ QUOTE ] The divisional split takes place at the regional level. They literally split all four regions into two equal (or as nearly equal as possible) divisions for playoff classification purposes. Thus the disparity of the type you noted. Outright reclassification would make a lot more sense. But don't hold your breath on that one. I've complained about it for a long time now but it seems that only recently (the last couple of years) that others have finally seen the light and realized that what we have with the VHSL is not good. The more people speak out, the sooner things will be done. Voice your opinions to your local School Admins, your School Board Reps, and even send a letter/email to the VHSL if you have to. The only way things are going to change is if we create change...it is not going to happen by itself and if you wait on the folks in Charlottesville (VHSL) to make the changes, you'll be dead and gone long before anything is done.... GMan 3,569 Author Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 [ QUOTE ] G-MAN How does Lee go to single A with 840? [/ QUOTE ] "Travel hardship"...due to their location and the distance they must travel for District games at the AA level. They have been asking to drop for years due to this but the VHSL never allowed them to while the Highlands District was still alive and kicking. Next year, with the Highlands gone and no "local" AA schools for them to compete against (Abingdon is now the closest AA school to Lee...almost a two hour drive...longer on a bus), the VHSL decided to allow them to "play down".
