No one died, you're being very dramatic. I said it was understandable, not that it was okay. If a father (since you're so into killing for some reason) kills someone who hurt his children, it's understandable yet still wrong. What part of that do you not understand? I'm not defending what Dean did, I said it was understandable that a kid, during apparently a very, very chippy basketball game, throws an elbow at another kid.

That last part is rich coming from someone defending Wise. If McClung had tore his ACL or shattered his knee from a Wise hard foul, should McClung sue Wise for loss of scholarship and potential earnings? Accidents happen. It really sucks Lester got hurt, no one wanted that. But trying to add further intent is dumb.

No one added further intent to anything. In the first quarter (?!?) of a “very chippy game” GC’s star player threw an intentional elbow...not an accidental one...that resulted in a kid going to the hospital with a concussion.   The perpetrator was not ejected, not suspended by his coach, and there were no consequences. These are indisputable facts.

I suppose under your premise it would be “understandable” (but still wrong) if a kid from Wise put Dean in the hospital tomorrow as retribution.  After all, these are very chippy games we are talking about here.

And before you misunderstand-these are kids we are talking about so I  wouldn’t want any injuries to occur ever. I’m just pointing out how fantastically ignorant it is to say that it is “understandable” when a kid hurts another kid intentionally and isn’t punished in any way.

It's understandable for a high school kid to get irritated and throw an elbow. Have you ever played basketball on any level, even just with friends? I used to play with friends in BSG and even though we were all friends, emotions sometimes got the better of people and stuff happened. I've seen grown men threaten each other,  hell ask @BB03, he saw me get hit during a pick up game one time (without him helping calm me down and get me away, I would've went to jail for being an ass, I didn't start the physical behavior but my mouth and not being in the right mind caused it) and it was just a friendly game with no stakes. Ramp up the intensity, mix in emotional teenagers and have them playing for something, and you get a recipe for sometimes emotions getting the best of the kids and physical incidents happen. It is completely understandable but also totally wrong.

Wise has chosen to play a very physical style of basketball (sometimes to their detriment, some of their teams would have been much better playing a wide open system) and will push boundaries and prod and pry to see what they can get away with, it's nothing new for M7 fans or basketball in general. When physical play happens, kids sometimes react in wrong ways. Dean did, but acting as if he was trying to seriously injure someone is disingenuous.

    A) If you watch that clip and don’t see intent to injure then you are completely unobjective. Of course he wasn’t trying to put him in the hospital, but he did. If you haul off and punch someone and they die...guess what...you don’t get off just because you didn’t intend to kill them.

    B) In real life, if you lose your temper and commit a crime, you still have to face the consequences of said crime. The only lesson apparently taught at GC is that if you are good at basketball, your coach and fans will not hold you accountable as long as you can help them win.

It truly sucks Lester got hurt, he was a good kid when he was at Union it seemed like from the little I saw. But sometimes when you play with fire, you get burnt. You can't expect teams or players to let someone beat on them, push them, etc... and not eventuallynget mad and retaliate. It wasn't the right decision, but it's an understandable one.

It’s understandable to put a kid in the hospital with an intentional elbow? What planet are you living on?

Can’t wait for next Friday. McAnus and his stupid play got one of his own kids hurt tonight, carted off on a stretcher. That fool never learns.  But like always, his goal is go out and try to beat and bang and hurt GC players, they didn’t do it vs JSB the other night. And baby McAnus is just as bad as daddy McAnus.

Extremely inappropriate to talk about a high school kid in such a manner, especially hiding behind a keyboard anonymously.

I said most teams in Mountain 7, Abingdon is one team. VA High is by far the best in SWD though. Mountain 7 is stronger overall than SWD. SWD is weak in girls and boys with exception of about three teams, one of those being VH girls.

Lebanon girls are 16-3 and have a higher point rating than Va High. They lost at VHS in a tight game so I wouldn’t say “by far”

  7. Having watched Mac play for years, it is hard to argue that he does not have a "swagger" about himself on the court. If you are not wearing GC blue, you no doubt will come up with a different word than "swagger".

I was there when he did the hot sauce dribbling off the foot thing. Not sure why you expect a coach to bench a player for a turnover. Players turn the ball over all game. Part of Mac's game IS the hot sauce dribbling. Is no different than a player driving to the goal and turning the ball over.

In the incident I referred to, MM was obviously showing off the handles as the kid from Lebanon tried to get up in him-he wasn't trying to take him to the rack or anything. Again, in a game like that where GC is up 20 it's not a big deal as to the outcome, but I also don't think it's a great example to set...yeah yeah I know get off my lawn and all that.

No sour grapes here-the kid is tremendous and I have never heard a peep about him off the court or about him being anything other than a great presence in the locker room. However he does carry the swagger that you referred to, which can sometimes be misconstrued by opposing fans.

  8. I wouldn't say MM is more confident than most alpha dogs, but having seen him from the other sideline for a couple of years now I would say he is trending in the wrong direction attitude wise.  I've seen him do more than his fair share of cherry picking this year, I've watched him be very demonstrative to other players and officials alike (which I didn't see in previous years), and in the conference tournament watched him attempt some hot sauce level ballhandling and dribble it off his foot out of bounds right in front of his coach...I can't believe SV didn't bench him immediately for that on general principle.

In fairness to the kid, (as he is still just a kid), I would say a lot of it is boredom, as teams like Lee and Lebanon don't really stoke the competitive fire in a player that talented.  Obviously he has played his best against the best competition which is what you want to see in terms of a sign of future success.  We were all a little more fiery when we were younger, so it's not an indictment of character to say he has a little attitude, but GC fans also shouldn't be offended at people saying that. We all know that if a player in a different uniform was doing the same stuff that they would not be so glowing in their praise.

  9. I believe Honaker was a true test. The only reason the Blues won was due to Anderson's foul trouble and eventually fouling out. It's like the offials were targeting him.

Richlands dominated the game-Honaker shot better than I've ever seen them and still lost. Honaker kids are tough minded and refused to quit...can't help but be impressed with their pride, but Richlands 20 points better talent wise.
