My bad. Headspace still rattled after Tech today. I freakin hate it when tech loses to teams in the North. Rutgers Syracuse, even a Pittsburgh.

Calpreps is now favoring Bath County by 3 points over Wytheville. I still think GW comes out of 1C. Bath could do it though. They are definitely better than they have been

  2.

No postseason for the cheating coach of Hayfield and the cheating administrators who ALLOWED it, knew about it, and were complicit.  Not just banned this year for the playoffs, but also for next year. I didn't think the VHSL had it in them.

At times, I will get out my notes from my pastor's previous messages.  I see one that speaks fresh to my heart for the day, and I will post it to family and friends.  In the message I posted today, it is a testament to the Blues team, as well, for this season.

"After the flood in Genesis 8, the raven was sent out to seek dry land.  It never came back.  The raven didn't return, because it fed on dead things it found.  The dove was then sent out.  The dove returns with the olive sprig.  The raven's testimony, "I found what I needed without you."  The dove testimony, "I found what was needed, but didn't want it without you."

"A lot of us are one lost away of giving up.  What dominates our vision?  It isn't where you are, it's what you're looking at."

"Pain should never change your vision for the finish line.  We must continue to run the race.  The pain and weight tires us, discourages us.  The apostle Paul said as his testimony, not glory to his trials, "I have finished the race.  I haven't come in first, but I've finished."

The Blues are scrappers, they've kept pushing and focusing.  They haven't always gotten the win, but they are crossing the finish line.

Post of the month in my opinion and it's only the 1st of Nov, but hard to top that one.

  4. See the post by tgburg fan in the scores week 9 thread about Marlboro County, SC. It's a situation like Freedom except interstate, not intrastate. Marlboro County SC hired the HC at Clinton High NC. Clinton High NC is a historic powerhouse and hasn't been what it once was, but still very good and they lost the state title game to Reidsville last year (former Graham coach Doug Marrs was D. Coordinator at Reidsville, I thinknhes retired now). The Clinton, NC Head Coach was hired by South Carolina historic powerhouse Marlboro County which has also been nowhere close to their historic standards, but they were rolling this year under the new coach who arrived from Clinton. He took multiple players and coaches with him and this includes the starting QB. Ever drove from Clinton NC to Bennettsville SC? That ain't no one county away drive. It's 2 hours. Anyway, Marlboro just got nailed. Has to forfeit all games and heavy fines. As for Clinton NC, they have 1 win this year.

Moral of the story In My Opinion? A reflection of where we are at as a society. It's not simply about the individual coaches who choose wrong. It's about the schools/the ADs/the administrators who ALLOW it and know what is coming when they hire that new coach, but they choose cheating to win over doing what is right. Same thing happened in NOVA.

What the heck happened in a matter of 45 mins that you completely changed your statement?

I spoke with a knowledgeable person in that timeframe and can't and won't reveal that. Keep in mind, I did point out the soccer/immigration culture thing was only something I suspected and stated I clearly Did Not know or claim to know. I can surely say this for 100 percent certain. It ain't a soccer/immigrant or football culture thing. This is why posted so quickly, as I dont want there to be any doubt aboit what I suspected (which was not accurate and I suspected wrong). They are literally hurting from major injuries (and a whole lot of them) and also some internal squabbles among players this year that led to even more low numbers.

Going to take some time, but they will be back.

If JM forfeits does Fort play V. High? Probably not but just saying 2 teams not that far apart needing or maybe wanting to play a game.  Heck play it on Sat so each team has a chance to make plans.

If JM doesn't show, we will likely know by close of business today. Would have likely already cancelled by Wednesday if they were going to cancel. If no news by 3pm today, I suspect they are coming.

  7. I got it on pretty solid notification the issues with Galax are NOT related to immigrant poulation/loss of interest in football. Galax has some major injuries and tons of kids out, a few internal issues for one given season and it will take time, but they will rebound. It's absolutely Not related to immigrant population/soccer/etc. Just wanted to be clear on that. I suspected it might be, but it's Not. They will be back, but will take some time.

  8. Galax/Carroll/58/I-77 area has a fairly large immigrant population compared to most, if not all of Swva. Soccer is big. Are we seeing the early signs of what has happened in parts of Northern VA with increased immigration not favorable to football and more inclined for soccer? I think we might be. I don't know for sure and dont claim to know, but I suspect it. Galax has in its favor,  a recent history of winning and winning state titles which helps the football culture, but Galax is super small and has little to no margin for error regarding football numbers dropping like most Class 1 schools, because quality is quickly dropped with any hit to numbers. Going to be interesting to see what happens with Galax's future in football.

With all of the above written, it's only been 1 year/1 season and that isn't long enough to be considered a trend. Could still be a one-off thing. I would not be surprised if Graham and Radford move to drop Galax. Don't know when their agreements are up, but I suspect they may move to not renew the series whenever that time comes.

@Union_Fan, I just gotta know, the chaos gremlin is eating me alive. What happens to Richlands and Graham if someone Richlands gets a bigger miracle win than the Miracle on Ice and beats Graham in the last week of the season?

CzarYakov, you of all people should know what would happen. Just like when Drago lost to Rocky and your guys lost to the US Collegiant All Stars in 1980, the Graham coach would suffer loss of reputation, job, exile, and some of Graham's staff would even be flirting with the Gulag doing hard labor in AppalaBeria

I’m not sure. I know they were playing their 3rd string QB against Richlands. Starting QB was suspended for a fight and the backup got hurt is what I heard.

History in the making? I would assume this has happened at least once in the state of Virginia but not to 2 defending state champs in 1 season. A state champ going winless the following season I assume....has not happened over 5 times since 1974 (last 50 years) and Maybe never. When you add in Freedom High in Class 6 2023/2024, having 2 previous state title teams go winless the following year is probably a first and a good chance of something only happening once every 50 or so years at most IF....If Galax and Freedom remain winless. All of the above taking out the Covid year and not counting that as many teams didn't even play or played 5 or 6 games, etc.

Giles kids don't even get the opportunity because the coaching staff don't push it. Even for the kids that want it. Unfortunately there's been more weightlifting done in Ricky Cooks basement and the Giles wellness center that has happened at Giles HS. It's just sad honestly

What's wrong with the Wellness Center?

I think a change at QB would really boost our offense.  Belin is a dual threat who can make plays with his legs and his arm, very much like Riley Leonard did.  We're just afraid of pissing off the Texas transfer who doesn't even think about scrambling.  Also, up until recently, we had one of the most reliable kickers in the nation.  He missed a fairly easy field goal several weeks ago at Georgia Tech and hasn't been the same since.  Missed XP and two easy field goals (one blocked) Saturday night.  Obviously that's why we went for two in OT instead of kicking the XP.

It hurts.  I expected to get destroyed by SMU, but to get that close and lose in that fashion... man....

I would say Miami annihilates us this weekend, but I have no clue what to expect.

I hope you all whip Miami. Duke has a chance. I know Miami is solid but in my opinion, they still have issues between the ears and it will catch them sooner or later.

Vhs is almost a lock where they are,  Lebanon still got taz bit who knows.  Gate city vs rv will help or hurt others too. Gonna be an interesting week.  Wish some were on Saturday so I could watch but thank you nfhs.

That was my question. If Gate City were to upset Ridgeview, could they jump VH if both schools finish 7 and 3. It looks like that is unlikely even if GC were to upset Ridgeview.

I hadn't paid attention to who was leading 3D, but I would've lost this bet.

    Region 3D

    Abingdon 7-1 24.375
    Lord Botetourt 6-2 24.250
    Magna Vista 6-2 23.125
    William Byrd 6-2 23.000
    Carroll County 5-3 21.000
    Christiansburg 5-4 20.778
    Staunton River 4-4 20.250
    Northside 4-4 19.620
    Bassett 4-5 19.444
    Pulaski County 1-7 16.750
    Cave Spring 2-7 16.111
    Hidden Valley 0-8 14.250
    Tunstall 0-9 12.333

2 through 4 would lay the leather on the Falcons and if the regular season ended today, Abingdon wouldn't be a sure win over #8 Northside.

I'm sure. I just don't understand why they (JM) would want to travel 640 miles with a terrible football team that is going to get boat raced.

Some of this is for the kids/exposure, literally almost like a field trip for probably what is many kids in the Richmond area who have never seen SWVA, and some maybe have never seen a mountain. I go a different route on this one. I love the idea of a team taking 1 (just 1) 5 or 6 hour trip to see another part of the state or bordering states. Easier said than done of course and money and time are huge factors, but if possible, I love the idea.

I think it would be great for example, for a Central Wise to travel to play a Clarke County for a Satirday game, take the kids to Gettysburg on Friday afternoon, play Saturday and drive home. Expensive for sure. A pain in the arse for fans and parents? For sure. But a gigantic memory those kids will never forget in their lifetime.

As for JM, keep in mind this team cancelled on Riverheads late in the season last year and I'm still 50/50 on them making the trip.

So just curious......when Williams does step down will they continue the single wing?

Really depends on who takes over and whether some of the Giles higher ups want to go this route and my guess is that this topic will play a huge factor in the search. If decision is made that we are "ok" with no longer winging it, then the search will be more wide. If we still want to wing it, the search will be narrow and seeing who might want to come home.

One advantage of being ok with "not winging it" is the location close to Blacksburg, very few problems in the school Compared To most other schools in VA regarding the area/crime/parents, etc. That can be appealing. My guess is that there's an informal search already in the works to see about who might be the guy to continue winging it and if unsuccessful, the formal and true search for a guy that may have little or possibly no Giles connections

  17. I'm too old.  Seen too much.  The separation between Union/Graham and Virginia High is not so great that VH couldn't pull a W over one of them in the playoffs if VH is fully healthy.  There IS a separation, but it's not "out of the question" that Virginia High simply has "no chance or zero chance."  They have a chance for sure and I would be slightly surprised if VH pulled a W over a Union/Graham, but not shocked or floored.  I wouldn't be surprised if VH lost by 17 pts either.
