Def top 5. Still wouldn’t put them ahead of Lebanon. Lebanon already beat them once and they lost by 1 tonight while having two starters out and shooting a horrendous 12-21 from the line
I think both are top five. Union Leb GC VHS Graham and Central are clear top six.
Then you’d also have to put Virginia High behind Central along with Union as central has beat both of these teams. Could you put Graham at number 5 and nobody be shocked? Absolutely. I just feel like by the time the postseason rolls around Graham will have a say as to who gets the trophies. Should be interesting tomorrow as the G-men come down to Lebanon. Side note: what’s everyone’s thoughts on that game? Will Reece take over for Lebanon with his height advantage or will Graham be lights out from deep?
I wouldn’t have. A problem with having Wise that high, but VHS didn’t beat Wise by 20 on their home floor either IIRC
I don’t believe Graham is the clear by far top team in 2D if they’re losing by 20 at home to just a pretty good VHS team. I think there’s a pack of 6-8 teams that could all either win the region or lose in round one.
Hell, I'll throw a marker down. Let's go with a +4/5 win total than last year. The following year they'll be a 6-8 win team.
6-8? I may take the under on that lol, they were just wholly uncompetitive this year. It is possible tho esp if they adjust their scheduling tendencies, going from very good 2A and bigger competition to some good 1A and mid level 2A teams.
What told me a lot about JM's AD was that he QUIT, cowarded down against the Big Red from Riverheads in football this year. He knew what was coming with that game as they would have got the beat down similar to the way they put the beat down on opponents in hoops. JM wanted absolutely zero part of that match up.
A little diff situations, the injury risk in basketball is nowhere near the risk in football when talking about teams with wildly different skill and athletic talents.
I’m just glad Union got lucky and avoided them during the Covid season. Is their anyone in the state who can beat them other than the private schools???
No, I don’t believe so. I believe they’re the best public school in VA regardless of classification.
I’m not disagreeing with you at all. He goes pretty hard at Pulaski in every sport. IMO, he should probably wait several hours after a particularly poor performance before writing anything. It doesn’t come off well. Especially in the context of this being a game played by children.
Agreed. I understand needing to get the story up ASAP, that’s how it works with covering a game but if you’re gonna let the emotions of a performance cloud your writing, you should wait and view it more objectively.
Pulaski ain’t beating Narrows anyway IMO, could play 100 teams and the Wave gonna win 90+.
The author is Rodney Young. He has a website RodneySportsNow.com. Pretty sure he’s on here.
He might be a nice guy I have no idea. It just seemed harsh to go in so hard on a HS team for a news outlet, even if it’s the hometown team. Quoting the coach is totally inbounds and was fine, but repeating those adjectives in your own context just seems rough for a group of HS kids.
Pulaski County paper pulled no punches and gives no s*** with his write up.
I don’t think that’s an appropriate write up for a HS game. These are 14-18 year old kids being berated by an adult with a platform. Seems a little excessive.
The D-B game is the one I'm talking about when I refer to "us" lol. That game is actually at Virginia High in that Big Shots tournament or showcase or whatever it is.
How many teams? Seems like it might be worth driving to VHS if it’s multiple games.
