  1. Here are the tie breakers, and I don't see "best overall record" in this year's handbook (a) The Rating Scale-Considering all regular season games played against public and non-public Virginia schools and scheduled in accordance with the provisions of 68-4-6. (b) The winner of any games between the two tied teams if only the tied teams are involved. If more than two teams tied, and one of the tied teams beat all other tied teams, that team shall advance. (c) The team with the better record against all common opponents. (d) A team that played an opponent with an effective nine (9) game schedule (non-recognized opponent, i.e., home school or out-of-state non-public school, or inability to schedule/play a 10th game) shall be seeded ahead of a school whose opponents play 10 game schedules. (e) Schools that played an opponent with nine-game schedules shall be seeded ahead of opponents who played 10-game schedules. (f) The team with the highest winning percentage against rating scale recognized opponents. (g) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's opponents. (h) The team with the higher average rating of all of each team's VHSL public and VHSL non-public school opponents (i) The regional chairman, or his/her alternate if his/her school is involved, shall draw by lot to determine the playoff representative. (j) The group chairman or vice chairman if the chairman's school is involved, shall draw by lot to determine the playoff representative. Should both the group chair and vice chair be involved in the tie the group secretary would oversee the process.
  2. If anyone has any questions about specific scenarios for their team, I'll be happy to run those.
  3. All things being equal, I think Central/GC and Tazewell/Grundy determine the #1 seed. Even if Richlands loses to Va High. Sleeper games are Princeton/Brooke and Mo West/Bearden. The following is based on Central over GC, Va High over Richlands, Grundy over Tazewell, Princeton over Greenbrier, Brooke over Princeton, and Grayson losing their last 2. A tie for #1 between Union/Graham would go to Union for "best overall record". A tie between Union/Marion would come down to "highest average rating of all opponents". 1.) Union 10-0 268 26.8 2.) Graham 9-1 268 26.8 3.) Ridgeview 9-1 262 26.2 4.) Marion 9-1 249 24.9 5.) Va High 7-3 232 23.2 6.) Lee 6-4 211 21.1 7.) Battle, John 5-5 190 19 8.) Central-Wise 3-7 176 17.6 8.) Marion 10-0 268 26.8 3.) Ridgeview 9-1 262 26.2 4.) Graham 8-2 248 24.8 If Marion beats Graham and Abingdon beats Union... 1.) Marion 10-0 268 26.8 2.) Ridgeview 9-1 263 26.3 3.) Marion 9-1 250 25 If Tazewell beats Grundy and Lebanon 1.) Graham 9-1 270 27 2.) Union 10-0 268 26.8 3.) Ridgeview 9-1 260 26 4.) Marion 9-1 251 25.1 5.) Va High 7-3 234 23.4 6.) Lee 6-4 211 21.1 7.) Marion 9-1 251 25.1 5.) Va High 6-4 220 22 6.) Lee 6-4 211 21.1 7.) Richlands 4-6 195 19.5 8.) Battle, John 5-5 189 18.9 If Tazewell beats Grundy, Richlands beats Va High, and Grayson beats Wythe. 1.) Union 10-0 270 27 2.) Graham 9-1 270 27 3.) Ridgeview 9-1 260 26 4.) Marion 9-1 251 25.1 5.) Richlands 3-7 176 17.6 Anything can happen over these next 2 weeks. Going to be EXCITING! Hopefully, I have no typos up there.
  4. I understand because here's the deal. I'm rooting for whatever team helps my team. Just like Central/GC. I'm a Blue Devil this week. If it was reversed and we needed Central to win, I would be a Warrior....puked in my mouth a little when I typed that. If I thought a Ridgeview loss would help the Bears, I'd come to Rose Ridge and put TurboLax in the water cooler. haha
  5. That extra point for Ridgeview won't matter, but Union's loss of points will. If Abingdon beats Union, Ridgeview will be #2 by a mile regardless of Graham/Marion. If Union wins, Ridgeview will be #3 by a mile.
  6. I didn't do any C points this year, but if the guy on preps is correct the Region D winner, assuming it's the #1 seed should have more points than the Region C winner.
  7. I think Union is firm at 268. Possibility of 274, but 270 is probably more realistic. I think Graham is firm at 268 also. Possibility of 272, and 268 is just as probable as 272. Graham is sitting at 187. They would get 30 pts for Fort and 34 pts for Marion. That makes 251. They would get 2 pts each for Richlands/Lebanon, Tazewell/Lebanon, Marion/Va High, Richlands/Va High regardless of the winner. That makes 259. They can get 1 pt for Bluefield over James Monroe, 2pts each for Central over GC, Fort over Bland, Giles over Alleghany, Princeton over Greenbrier, Princeton over Brooke, Tazewell over Grundy for a possible total of 272. I'll create a thread of possibilities not just for Graham and Union, but for other Region D teams as well. With Bluefield, GC, Central, Letcher, Mo West, and Giles all playing their final game Friday along with Ridgeview/Pike and Tazewell/Grundy, the seeding will become a lot simpler to figure out come week 11.
  8. If the Lee D that played Union shows up coupled with some offensive output, I think Lee will be fine.
  9. This is another toss-up game that I'm going to toss to Lee High. The fact that GC hung with Battle as long as they did makes me think Lee wins by 10 pts. Battle isn't going to score 56 points on Lee's defense.
  10. Just remember if you win, prepare for the inevitable revenge by the refs next year in Ky. Go Pack!
  11. I know that several posts have mentioned Union's D this year, especially the Run D. Here are the stats, compiled from the weekly reports of the BHC. Avg Rushing ypg - 50.38 Avg Passing ypg - 91.75 Total ypg - 142.13 Total points given up per game - 8.63 If you take Letcher Co out of the equation then the Total ypg = 104.14 and points = 6 I realize that these haven't come against the most stellar of opponents, so here is a comparison of the Ridgeview/Union and Ridgeview/Abingdon games that may provide a little perspective. Ridgeview total points and yards against Union - 19/120 Ridgeview total points and yards against Abingdon - 21/228 Union total points and yards against Ridgeview - 34/429 Abingdon total points and yards against Ridgeview - 13/335 I can't wait. This is going to be a good game! Union 34 Abingdon 13
  12. Some may have already seen this, but I thought it was pretty cool... Castlewood bus breaks down on the way to Norton for football game with Burton. So, Burton bus and Norton fire truck transport team & equipment to the stadium. Sportsmanship!!!
  13. It will be, and another game that will benefit Union over Graham if Richlands wins.
  14. You get base points for the game itself depending on the opponent's classification and whether you win or lose. If you win... 6A-26pts, 5A-24pts, 4A-22pts, 3A-20pts, 2A-18pts, 1A-16pts If you lose... 6A-14pts, 5A-12pts, 4A-10pts, 3A-8pts, 2A-6pts, 1A-4pts You get 2 pts for each win a defeated opponent has for the season. You get 1 pt for each win a non-defeated opponent has for the season. If you play a team in a lower classification, you get the same amount of base points as if they were the same classification as you. Example....Burton is 1A, but Union received 18 base points for winning plus 2 pts for each win Burton gets this season. 6 so far for their 3 wins. If you go to the VHSL's website and view the weekly ratings it has all that at the top.
  15. They could, but would be within 2-4 points. So, close enough for an upset by someone to make a difference.
  16. 4-6 Richlands will outpoint a 5-5 Battle. It is also possible for Battle, Lee, and Richlands to all make the playoffs.
  17. It certainly is, but its more probable that Richlands wins out than Grayson.
  18. No. A 4-6 Richlands is almost guaranteed. A 3-7 Richlands can squeak in though. It's not unprecedented. Martinsville got in with a 1-9 record in 2014. Played Giles in the first round.
  19. No. In that scenario Grayson would have more points, but Richlands could still get in. However, it is HIGHLY unlikely that Grayson wins out.
  20. Richlands may get in by simply beating Lebanon. Beat Va High too and they're in...almost guaranteed. GC beating Central will help if they lose to Va High.
  21. I hate to see this. Prayers for a quick healing.
  22. This will be a proxy war between Graham and Union. Haha Go Devils!
  23. You're right. I was looking at the wrong week on my spreadsheet. Brooke is the team I meant. Could be wrong, but I'm giving Princeton the win over Greenbrier.
  24. Marion and Graham play each other the last week. One will definitely knock the other out of contention for #1 seed. What would be great for Union is Va High beating Marion and Marion beating Graham. Haha Mo West/DB was a 4 pt game until late in the 4th, so perhaps a Mo West victory over Bearden isn't as far fetched as it looked a couple weeks ago. And I don't see Letcher helping us out at all.
  25. Union REALLY needs GC to beat Central. If that doesn't happen, Graham is most likely #1 seed. All things being equal, I expect Graham to finish 2-4 points ahead of Union OR they will be tied at 270. That outcome will depend on 2 games GC/Central and Princeton/Wheeling Park. Mo West/Bearden could be 2 unexpected points for Union if Mo West pulls that one out. If, somehow, Marion finishes 10-0 they and Union would be locked in a similar battle for #1. This is all assuming Union beats Abingdon.
