Anyone hearing anything out of Damascus?

Chris Akers (lol) does still live I think in Bristol and drives to Fort everyday, cuts the drive in half....not saying Holston is the same as Fort but with the way coaches are shuffling around it wouldn’t surprise me.

I saw where the football coach at Hurley has resigned; he also coach basketball and tennis I think....going to be tough to find someone when consolidation talks are always on the horizon. Did he just get out or has he moved on before the doors closed?

Does playing on turf bring success? Is it really that big of a factor to keep kids from going other places? To win I would want my money going to a weight room.

And there's the reason they are in the situation they are in......(I'm not saying you are supporting this SXSW)

That's the name I'm hearing too and that he may even be bring an assistant with him; someone who's been coaching at the collegiate for multiple years.

Along with the "retirement" statement was his name being thrown around for the Radford job soooooo...........yeah not buying it.

The latest "Turner News" I've head is that he's getting ready to "retire," now take that for what its worth.

It seems like such a tough job to take.....small town politics, kids spread out all over the place, consistent coaching changes, lack of rec department, not sure of the pay (but probably not great), surrounded by several successful programs. Not a list of attractions for a seasoned coach; especially with the amount of other jobs open each and every year. The only way I see to turn it around is hire someone who has had some success (not a super star, but consistent success) and allow them to bring some new staff members with them; a fresh start and new faces for the program and then......leave them alone for 5 years and then reevaluate.

Back to the game discussion....a lot of talk about Galax winning this game....I don't see it, I really don't see it being within 14-21 points. I have seen both teams play most of their games (Thank you NFHS). I know both teams have played well below their capability the last few weeks. However, I just don't think Galax will have any answers to the running attack of RH; they rarely ever have a negative play. I think Galax will be able to move the football passing the ball, but, a bad snap, a sack, a poorly thrown ball, or dropped pass and then Galax is behind the sticks (I know they completed several long 3rd downs vs. Narz, but Narz isn't RH.) I also do not think a week is enough time for Galax's defense to be well prepared for RHs offense. You can say they've seen it in the past and may have even worked on their Defensive scheme for RH in the weeks leading up to this; but you cant replicate it at practice. One of the biggest factors we have yet to really see this season is what happens when Galax gets down by 2 TDs or so; Dixon isn't the man leading the show now, will the kids respond to Coach Allan like they would have for Dixon....I've seen glimpses of frustration during games when things weren't going smooth for Galax and kids acting out differently this season vs. years past. I think Galax needs the Odds stacked in there favor for this one to have a chance and from what I can tell they aren't. RH has the same coach on the sideline, they are on their home field, they run the football as well as any team in the state, they are a top defense in the state, they won last year. The way I see it......RH-45 Galax-14

Seen them both and fortunately/unfortunately this one wont be close; Galax wins relatively big and with ease. Holston has done a great job playing every opponent on their schedule and got the free pass last week.....however, this weeks opponent is way more skilled and physical compared to anyone they've faced so far. Everyone is really excited about the QB at Holston; which to be honest he is a very skilled athlete; on the other hand the QB at Galax is a much more polished QB all around.....up front there is no comparison Galax will drive them off the ball offensively and be in the back field immediately on defense. Maybe.....maybe the QB at Holston gets loose for a couple plays and they can get in the end zone a time or two....but they will be chasing points for most if not the whole game. I'd say in the neighborhood of 42-7.

Ive seen all 3; Narz, Galax, and Holston on film and in person.....Galax OR Narz beats Holston by 20+ ....not bashing Holston at all, both G & N are wayyyyy better up front than Holston, the QB at Holston is dynamic scrambling on the run and pass....however, that window will be slammed shut against G or N and he will get beat to pieces if he tries to run 20+ times against either team....once again Holston is a very good team just not on the level as Galax or Narz......for anyone getting on their high horse about Galax or Narz taking on Riverheads (Don't do it) Riverheads is on a different level than Galax or Narz...call me crazy but once again if its within 20 then Galax or Narz played above and beyond and Riverheads played bad.....Riverheads is on a completely different level than ANYONE in single A.

I cant see Saunders being done for good; I think his name will bounce around a couple places if not this year in the near future. Radford has bad some of the worst luck with injuries and a poor administration the past few years....it finally took a toll on him I think; a year or so off (maybe) he'll be back out there somewhere.

I think Holston QB will be too much for JIs defense and in the end a 2 TD difference. Shew, the Galax v Narz game could be a barn burner...I wasn’t surprised with the GW/Galax score last week, but was a little shocked at the PM/Narz. It took a quarter or so for Narz to get going and if that happens this week, they may be in a hole they can’t recover from. Narz is solid on both sides of the ball with a QB who’s put up lots of rushing and passing TDs and a defense that starts 9 or 10 seniors. This will obviously be the best team Narz has faced this season (by far) however, I think being an older group of kids they will pull it out in a close game 28-24.....or because of a slow start and facing an opponent who is way better than anyone they’ve seen Galax could route them 35-14.
