  1. I wouldn’t say it’s a lock. According to their bracket a potential round 3 matchup with Bridgeport awaits. The Beavers can’t be thrilled about that.
  2. I don’t think it’s a bad win at all. I just can’t bring myself to be excited about beating a 3-7 team even given their competition. I know Union is a good team. In the bracket challenge I picked them to go all the way, because I think Appomattox will come from region C, but with all the success they’ve had the last 3 years they haven’t had to come to southwest Va and play in the kind of environment they’ll see in Bullit. But I think one weakness of Union is them allowing teams they should put away hang around longer than they should. They should’ve buried Richlands with the difference in yards and such, but had a couple things went a different way, they lose that game at home. Same kind of thing with Abingdon and Lee hanging around so long and also the MW game. I’m afraid they may slip up and lose to someone in these playoffs they shouldn’t.
  3. What do you think that? MW finished their season at 3-7. Just because they’re a bigger school doesn’t mean they’re good.
  4. I think the biggest factor in this game is going to be turnovers or the lack thereof. If Richlands has a +2 turnover margin advantage of better, they can win this game. If not, they won’t in my opinion.

  7. If it was in Marion I’d go with the Canes. I think it’ll be a game similar to the first matchup but maybe a bit more scoring. I’ll say Va High by a td. But if Marion plays to their potential, it could just as easy go the other way. Both teams have been playing really good ball despite them both losing a couple in the recent weeks.
  8. Just wanted to point out 5A and 6A play in Hampton now. They moved when the 3A 4A games did. Also, I think the length of the podcast is fine. I look forward to this thing all week.
  9. Unfortunately we’ll never know. They are the undisputed champions and will be until proven otherwise.
  10. You’re right. Taking the best player off a team makes no difference whatsoever.
  11. Did I say that? With Howie I don’t think they get blown off the field like everyone else and inevitably Richlands did.
  12. They were better, but I don’t think head and shoulders. People are quick to forget, Cody Howie wasn’t able to play that game due to the ejection against Stuart’s draft. And anyone who watched Richlands play more than a couple of times know 2 things: Howie was the biggest playmaker on that team offensively and on special teams and he also really opened things up for the other receivers because of the attention he attracted from the defense.
  13. Richlands was demolished, but it was 14-7 with 2 minutes to go in the first half.
  14. That would be some kind of atmosphere at Mitchell stadium once again.

  16. Well the apple that is Union beat the oranges that are Ridgeview and Abingdon handily and both of those teams beat the banana that is Battle by more than one score and your strawberry ass is wrong. There’s no reason for anyone with common sense to assume this won’t be a win by union by multiple scores.
  17. You can’t lobby for it being a close game then use that example then. Battle LOST to Abingdon. If Abingdon hasn’t proven to be a good team in your eyes then what does that say about battle?
  18. How is that? Common opponents are twin springs, rye cove, east side and castlewood. ji burton beat twin springs 53-6. Walker beat them 51-6. burton beat the cove 37-14. Tw won 21-14. burton lost to eastside 28-22. Tw lost 39-7 and burton beat castlewood 49-30. Tw lost 28-0.
  19. If that were to occur, that would mean Richlands most likely had knocked off some combination of union, graham or Ridgeview, and Marion/va high all on the road.i wouldn’t be excited to play a team that built that kind of momentum in the playoffs, regardless of w-l record.
  20. Galax is playing for home field all the way to Salem. Grayson will have to play a perfect game to take that away from them.
  21. That’s not correct. I can guarantee you if union loses to battle union would be the number 3 seed.
  22. One thing that everyone can agree on is that we LOVE high school football on this board. But I think sometimes we’re all to quick to criticize and scrutinize other teams merely because we want so badly for our beloved team to be the best and for this to be “the year”. But I think we all need to give all our local teams a cyber pat on the back. In 2D Of course we have union and graham riding high as expected. But we also have Ridgeview at 8-1, Marion as well, va high playing football to a level they haven’t in years. Battle, lee, and Grayson have all took a step forward in my opinion this year and you also have my beloved blues scrapping and clawing like almost no other 3-6 team could. And you’ve also got tazewell kids absolutely breaking their backs to compete week in and out with their teams they play and refusing to quit. But you also have Grundy, whose had a great turnaround season, chilhowie looking like a 1 D monster and also narrows really putting on a good show. There are other feel good stories on the season as well and some not so great. The point of my long winded post is this. These kids play their hearts out and I think football this year in our area has been top notch as far as competition and effort go. One thing I fully believe is whatever teams make it out of our regions, they’re gonna be battle tested and ready. Football in southwest va is special. It just means more to us hillbilly’s and most of the state just doesn’t understand us and our passion for our schools. I see it as their loss. Because I have spent many a Friday night at Ernie hicks having the best of times and it really is a beautiful thing when youre in those moments in the stands and those big time swva games are going to the wire in a flat out barn burner. You all know what I’m talking about. So I just wanna say I hope with everything in me, that the blue tornado somehow shocks the world and finishes the season at 9-6. But if that doesn’t happen I hope one or more of our local teams play those teams from “the rest of the state”, deliver a flat out ass whipping, and bring home the gold this year.
  23. My math could be wrong but based on what I have: IF big IF richlands beats va high, tazewell beats Lebanon, and William Byrd beats northside next week richlands would outpoint lee 197-195 for the number 7 spot assuming they lose to Abingdon. Anyone is more than welcome to check me on that though
  24. I think with a win next week they could possibly outpoint lee. But not likely. I don’t know if they could possibly outpoint Grayson at this point or not.
