  1. Watched the video and thought it was pretty neat to hear commentary on a high school football game. They do a good job with that. Those were two pretty good teams that faced off.
  2. Derrick Yates Abingdon, WR at Emory and Henry Landon Mance Richlands, at UVA-Wise Isacc Perrigan AHS/J I Burton, at UVA-Wise
  3. AHS definitely stepped it up in the second half. Pass rush was better and coverage. AHS also forced BBurg into several mistakes and capitalized on them. Not sure how that film would help Mance but you prepare for every team differently. The Falcons have made measurable improvements on defense from last year and get better each week this season. It appeared they started doing the little better the second half of the BBurg game. I don't take anything away from the Bruins, they're fast and have some really good athletes. The Terry kid is the real deal and there are a few others that are playmakers on that squad. I would say OL play was their Achilles heel. Our D-Line was just better off the ball the second half. Lots of pressure and disruption.
  4. Union rolls this one. I don't see how Collier could be healed up with them continuously running him out there. GC lacks depth. They will get it turned around eventually. Too much tradition there to be down for to long. I said it before the season started, their first 6 games were going to be murders row and could very well start 0-6.
  5. It was back and forth for the first half. Abingdon certainly pulled ahead in the 4th. The Terry kid is one of the fastest high school players I've seen. The turning point in the game was the INT inside the red zone. After that, all the momentum swung the Falcons way and it appeared like they weren't going to look back. Blacksburg was definitely a quality opponent. They look a lot like Richlands I assume Coach Wells brought that mentality with him. But I give ton's of credit to Abingdon, they never quit, never looked out of the game, and finished strong with a 20-0 run in the final quarter.
  6. Do you all need a moment? Maybe tomorrow yall could meet up, gaze deeply in one anothers eyes and realize your from to different fan bases and it'll never work out. That's some funny stuff right there.
  7. Never said they weren't good people. Heather, to me, just doesn't exude football knowledge and or commentary on the subject matter. No I'm not being sexist. I do think WCYB could dominate the Friday night sports scene in SWVA if they stepped up the game coverage and commentators. It also wouldn't hurt to include all of SWVA. If your going to cover Grundy why not cover Richlands and the like.
  8. Lets keep context here. Abingdon didn't even play their starters the majority of the second half. The 2's and 3's got a ton of playing time that game. Not to mention it was the first game of the year and Abingdon was working on some things. To be clear, JSB is not a dumpster fire and will give 100% effort for 4 quarters so don't sleep on them. They lack depth. Lots of players go both ways and they tend to wear down in the 4th quarter. If you underestimate their QB he will burn you. He's quick, shifty, and has good vision.
  9. Jake Sturgill Highlights from last week vs Christiansburg http://www.wcyb.com/sports/player-of-the-week-abingdon-qb-jake-sturgill-1/80992155
  10. THIS RIGHT HERE! Great effort by WCYB to compete with WJHL, "who has been doing 'Touchdiown Friday Night" that for years. They just need some football minded and knowledgeable people hosting the segment. Some nights it is painful to watch as the butcher players names and the who did what.
  11. We will worry about Graham next week but right now the Falcons are focused on the Bruins. There seems to be an Ora of intensity building in the Falcons that appears to be what they want to take on the road with them to Blacksburg. This one could be a barn burner or it could be a blow out.
  12. Without Mullins and Jesse Richlands rolls by a lot. This one could get ugly fast.
  13. Don't know anything about Bluefield except what I've read on here but I hope GC comes away with the win.
  14. Should be a good one in Blacksburg. If Abingdon continues to execute they should be fine. No matter the situation this year it seems the Falcons just don't get rattled. They just go out and do their thing on both sides of the ball. I have yet to see any panic on the field. They know what needs to be done and they do it. Also it appears Coach reed and co. are making the right adjustments.
  15. It looked like C-Burg had some good athletes but they just couldn't execute and appeared to be out matched. I'm hoping its that Abingdon is playing much better on defense than they did last year.
  16. Abingdon?Christiansburg!!! You just know that Graham, Richlands, and Blacksburg will be sitting in the stands scouting. Come one come all, the show is about to begin.
  17. Union wins this one walking away. Union 46 DC 6
  18. This right here. Anytime I'm over that way I always make time for a Cuz's stop
  19. Worst case scenario you stay at home and catch the scores and highlights on WCYB or WJHL
  20. OK its a crap shoot at best. But my money is on I-81/I-77. The red lights alone should be enough deterrent. On the other side if you go 19, you could always stop at Cuz's for dinner. There is the one bright spot to taking 19.
  21. Thursday Richlands @ Graham Gate City @ Sullivan South Virginia High @ Tennessee High John Battle @ Holston Friday Christiansburg @ Abingdon Grundy @ Lebanon George Wythe @ Marion Tazewell @ Grayson Co. Lee @ J I Burton Letcher Central @ Wise Central David Crockett @ Union Eastside @ Honaker Castlewood @ Thomas Walker Rye Cove @ Hancock Co.
  22. It'll be I-81 for me when we go play Graham later this month. That ride up 19 has to be the most boring ride in SWVA. Once you leave Claypool Hill there is pretty much nothing till you get to Bluefield.
  23. Abingdon is playing at home on Friday night. I think it is one of the few games left that will be on Friday. Most likely because Christiansburg wouldn't want to travel on a Thursday and then have to go to school on Friday. The concert at BMS and the VT/UT game doesn't really affect them the way it does a lot of our local teams would be my guess. Although I would imagine a few of them will be attending the game Saturday. I any case Christiansburg @ Abingdon Friday 7:30 pm.
  24. Comments? Insight? Prediction...Who you got ion this matchup of the well traveled. Abingdon by as much as they want and they start subbing the 2's and 3's early like they did against Gate City. Abingdon 56 Christiansburg 6
