Is there a reason that Abingdon is in the M7 instead of the Southwest?

Cause M7 teams have the better concession stands.  Only joking.

I'm not sure why we were put in the M7 other than that is the way it shook out in the previous redistricting through VHSL.

  2. Round 2 and back to the scene of the crime so to speak.  Falcons been rolling with the run game and ferocious defense.  Botty been dominating teams with a power run game.  I know nobody will give the Falcons a chance and for sure they will be underdogs.  But haven't the been that all season.

    Who you got?

I will take the Falcons in a close one.

Reed changed their culture.  Abingdon has always been knows as soft..he toughened them up and some of the kids and parents probably had a hard time adjusting.  The kids that are still there are tough because of reed and his staff.   Give them a couple years...they be back to being soft again.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I totally respect it.  But the facts are not what you may think they are.  The kids you are speaking of learned toughness from many other things.  Reed didn't show up one day and Jake Sturgill was a 2 time all state QB.  Matthew Fulton wasn't beast of a running back.  Derrick Yates didn't just become a college prospect because he showed up and the list could go on.

The current list of players who are seniors and started out in Reed's system didn't become tough and hard nosed because of his system.  That trait came from playing together since they were 6 years old in flag football.  That trait came from them becoming a band of brothers all the way through their youth league days, middle school, and JV.  There were many other factors involved than saying "he toughened them up".

    Consider this:

2014 8-2 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff the year Reed is named head coach

    2015 9-1 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff

    2016 9-1 Colobro/ Amburgey on staff

    2017 6-4 Colobro/ Amburgey NOT on staff

2018 8-2 Amburgey named head coach

On a footnote: "Give them a couple years...they be back to being soft again" This sounds like wishful thinking.

Is there a better candidate out there than Darren reed?   He knows gc football.   Hc experience.   Abingdon still riding his coattails.   They will drop off next year.  If he don’t get the job... then Scott county school board is even dumber than what we think they are.   Give him a chance.  Give him at least 3 years.  That’s what Akers got.  If he can’t do it.  Then give houseright his chance.  If neither of those 2 work then scratch the program.

That is laughable.  Sorry but there isn't a snowballs chance that Abingdon finishes this season 8-2 this year doing the same thing we did last season.  Let alone winning games against Union and Ridgeview and being the 3 seed to host a playoff game.  And before you say something to the effect I don't know..  My son is a senior and I've been around the program long enough to know.

    Rookie Post...not Rookie LPD

I was fortunate to play against Coach T. Dotson..Mr. Riggs..Mr. Harry Frye..PV Coaches..Coach Dave Ryder and Mr. Cummins.

We would have taken care of this situation in the locker room or on the practice field..BEFORE it occurred on the field/court/diamond.

The Helicopter Moms..Lawnmower Dads..Grandstand Usta' Bees have weakened the character and ownership responsibility of our student-atheletes.

I will not be popular on this Forum so bring it.

Well that's one way to join the conversation.  Welcome to the board and your first post.

  6. I would fully expect Abingdon to beat Hidden Valley.  The loss earlier in the season to them kind of was a wake up call and the Falcons have responded in the manner one would expect.  Hidden Valley probably can't beat the likes of Ridgeview or Union.  They would certainly struggle with Virginia High and Richlands. But who knows, That's why they play the game.

I've said in recent weeks Abingdon is peaking at the right time.  Going into the playoffs and playing your best ball makes a team very dangerous. Especially when people might be overlooking you cause your not in the Roanoke Valley.

  7. You know who's name should be out there.  Garrett Amburgey.  granted he isn't a 1A or 2A coach but the only 3A team in the coverage area usually gets overlooked.

Amburgey has only lead a team to much success this season that a lot of people considered out and in a rebuilding year with the coach getting the job 2 days before two a days.  Regardless of what people think, Amburgey has lifted Abingdon to new heights and energized the fan-base.

I disagree.  Talent is there.  They did not want to play.   And even at that the ones that did play should have and could have been 5-5 teams.  Battle, lee, wise.   Should never lose those.   Other games besides Richlands.  Union and rv most years should at least be competitive.   Should be beating south also.

The sheer arrogance of this post ventures on the absurd.  You saying that GC should never lose to one of those teams?  Really?  So those teams aren't allowed to get better just because they have to lose to GC year in and year out.

How is this determined? Is this in an unofficial handbook of high school football? Where can I get a copy?

Yes I agree with this.  I will need to see a copy of the handbook where it states that.
