The officiating in the RV/Union game was atrocious, but that's not what lost it for the Pack; lack of composure did them in.  Two technical fouls and multiple moments of players whining to the officials.

I'm going to guess Kegley was working this game.  Lol

Thanks for feedback …that’s a shame  on the administrations part if just to lazy to put on events  for the next wave of athletes and sub Varsity level.

SWVA needs to take lessons from Tennessee and the way they run things ….creates a better product in the end (Varsity years) by investing in Middle School and JV level Championship settings …..which ultimately bring in more money in the varsity years …..or at least that’s the way I see it

The way Tennessee does postseason in all sports is miles better than the VHSL.  No mix and match different classifications in districts (ex:  Class 3 Abingdon in majority class 2 M7).  In Tennessee, if you're 6A, you're in a 6A conference.  Football, top 4 in each conference go to playoffs and cross bracket with next conference over.  Pretty straightforward.  Basketball you go to the semis in your district tournament, you go on to Region and so forth.

  3. Most recently the Dobyns-Bennett boys state semifinal and state title game from last years state tournament.

State semifinal:  Bartlett made a 3 at the horn in regulation to send it to overtime, Malachi Hale made a jumper from around the FT line at the horn to win it for D-B in OT.

State championship:  Bearden made a 3 at the horn in regulation to send it to OT, however D-B blew them out in OT once Bearden lost three starters to foul outs.

D-B girls also had an improbable win last year as well that sticks out trailing Jefferson County by 12 with under a minute left in regulation yet somehow winning by one on a 3 at the buzzer.

In the way back machine all of the Haysi-Council games back when both teams were outstanding in the late 90's early 00's were memorable, although the Tigers came out on the short end on pretty much all of them.

Me, too.  Emory needs more of focus on SWVA as well.  They been historically too reliant on that Richmond and central VA talent.  They should be about 15-20% local. Imagine if they landed Roberts (DE), Beavers and Harris (WR), Jones (LB/QB) and Hill (LB) this year.

Pretty crazy that the football team has very little SWVA talent but both men's and women's basketball teams has plenty of it.

Can someone explain why the Gate City  coach refuses to start #30?

The kid is arguably the 2nd best scorer on the team, and one of the better defenders and rebounders.

Does the coach have a personal issue with starting transfers that weren’t brought up through the feeder schools?

Maybe time Vermillion or Ervin come out of retirement.

No sir!  The real question is why you failed in your attempt to dethrone the Tribal Chief!  The Head of the Table!  I was pulling for you to beat Roman Reigns and you failed!  Miserably!

Wrestling is real to me dammit!  😄

  6. Ridgeview has been Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this season best I can tell.  Good win over Gate City but what I would call bad losses to Honaker and Chilhowie.

Graham was down all 5 starters against Richlands. It was terrible basketball all the way around. If you have NFHS, just watch a few minutes, it’s pitiful. Kids all play hard just not a lot of good ball handling & playing. M7 is going to have SWD for lunch come playoffs, probably on girls’ side too. SWD is just way down all the way around. Graham is decent at full strength but they’re not the same level as in the past few years.

I would consider Richlands girls to be a contender to at least avoid a M7 sweep in the Region D opening round.

Graham gets the win I suppose with game being called with about two minutes left. Graham player pushed Tazewell player after being fouled. Tazewell player chest bumps him back. Benches clear, game ends after some on court deliberation between refs & other folks. Can’t make this $hit up.
51-46 on scoreboard when teams exit court.

No assault on other school administrator and cop by mother as what happened in Tug Valley and Logan game?  Lol

Stating that a team isn’t that good isn’t really making fun of them but merely an observation. I even gave Graham credit for playing hard against Richlands. Saying they lack skill is just a fact. Good grief, you take this board & comments way too seriously. Unfortunately, the SWD just isn’t up to par as in the past. 7 or 8 years ago, a lot of girls’ teams were competitive. This year with the exception of Richlands & the Trivette girl, the SWD is weak.

Dude or dudette created this account and posted his crybaby remarks.  My guess is either someone on here who already had an account and didn't want to come forthright with it or a parent who got notified and can't face reality.

Stating individual kids is one thing, but stating a team is bad is just that.  Someone has to be the worst, it's just the way it is.  PrideandGlory needs to make a trip to the Lowe's or Home Depot, buy the supplies he/she needs to build that bridge and get over it.  Lol

The sad thing, this is probably accurate 😂😂😂😂

It's neck and neck between those two on who has the area's worst girls team with Castlewood probably not too far off from that discussion as well.

Do you have the updated standings for girls and boys?

    According to Kingsport Times News:

    Boys:

    • Gate City 4-5 (overall), 3-0 (district)
    • Union 4-4, 2-0
    • Ridgeview 8-2, 2-1
    • Lee High 4-4, 1-1
    • Abingdon 7-3, 1-1
    • John Battle 6-6, 0-3
    • Wise Central 5-4, 0-3

    Girls:

    • Gate City 7-1, 2-1
    • Ridgeview 8-2, 2-1
    • Wise Central 8-3, 2-1
    • Union 6-4, 1-1
    • John Battle 4-6, 1-1
    • Abingdon 3-7, 1-1
    • Lee High 0-12, 0-3

I know the Ridgeview girls record is incorrect as they've lost at least three that I know of.  (Gate City, Honaker and Paintsville (KY))

In watching basketball highlights on Sportscenter, I have been under the impression for quite some time now that "travelling" is not a thing anymore! You can plainly see it in every NBA highlight.  😉

Dobyns-Bennett played in a tournament over in Asheville last month.  North Carolina refs call travelling every time a player does an Eurostep over there.  I've never seen Virginia or Tennessee refs call travelling for that.

I was talking about boys but both games could potentially be good.  I didn't think Ridgeview girls would beat Central but they pulled it out.

Gate City girls are undefeated I believe.  Not sure who they have played other than us.  We were tied with them in the final seconds until they pulled it out at the end.  We have them again in Kingsport on Friday.  Hopefully the Lady Wolfpack can hand them their first 'L' and we can give them their second Friday.

Opening tournaments for the girl's season have provided much to talk about.  Defending state champions Wise Central and Honaker both won their respective tournaments, but other area teams did not make it easy for them.  Eastside fought Honaker hard in a 9 point game before 2A Ridgeview gave them a serious run for the championship at VA High.  Wise Central had a tough time as well.  They had to beat Richlands in the semifinals in a matchup that paired two of the best players in SWVA against each other with McCamis and Annsley Trivette (sophomore and freshman).  This was a hard-fought game but the outside shooting of Central was too much to overcome.  The championship against Union was another back and forth game with Union getting close a few times until Wise had a late run to pull away.  Some of the top individual performers were McCamis, Trivette, Williams (Burton), Slagle (Union), and Hammonds (Eastside).

From my earlier predictions I have to say that Union surprised me with their start.  If they can keep the team unity, they may be a solid contender for the Mountain 7.  Ridgeview looked very tenacious against Honaker but with those low scores I am not sure how that plays out against the top 2A schools like Wise, Gate City, and Union.  Not sure why you travel from Clintwood to Bristol when you have a higher quality tournament closer to home in Wise.

I'm not in favor of any tournament where you could potentially face a district opponent in it.  And in that Wise tournament two M7 opponents facing each other is always very high as well as two Cumberland opponents.

Don't forget Fancy Gap when the weather sucks

When I went to Duke a couple of weeks ago, I went down 421 from Boone instead of 77.  Even though it was a little foggy that morning, it was nothing like what you would see on Fancy Gap that time of morning.
