Mercy rule is a 35+ point lead It won't be hard. Region D for 1A is the BDD, Cumberland and Hogoheegee schools. So, in the BDD it should be Grundy and Honaker for sure. Out of the Cumberland, I could see Eastside, Burton and Rye Cove, and the Hogoheegee I see Chilhowie and PH, to make the 8 teams if it's an 8 team tournament. There is no more West region. 4 region setup with 2 coming from each region, the region finalists. Region D winner "hosts" Region C runner up, Region C winner "Hosts" Region D runner up. Same scenario for the A & B side (East). Appomattox Regional Governor's School, who the 71 point scorer Jada Boyd plays for, lost in the 2016 finals to Northwood and last year lost in the quarters to Honaker. This year, in what games they have listed on that inaccurate site that everyone hates and doesn't get mentioned here... they are 1-6. So apparently they are not as good as a team as they have been. As for Ridgeview, the ship is still afloat for now. They WERE picked third in the district. Abingdon and Central both were picked ahead of them, so there's that. If they lose tonight to Gate City, then the questions will start to come.

A King women's player did that the other night against Lees-McRae. Totally lost all semblance of thought for a second. It happens I suppose. Luckily that basket didn't make a difference in the final outcome.

See 2017 Ridgeview and Richlands basketball, although in Richlands case, it may have been more of a looking ahead to Graham tomorrow night scenario that bit them against Lebanon the other night, because Lebanon didn't look all that good at all against us and it was a game we should've had easily but we played terribly in the first half, got down by 16 and couldn't recover. Play a 1A non conference schedule and go undefeated rolling along the way may look good at first, but when you lose when you get to the teams in your district/classification... can't prepare for the M7 or SWD when you're playing teams like Grundy, Council, Castlewood and Patrick Henry.

Who knows... the document on the VHSL page says regions will be 8 teams seeded based on power points. It's the VHSL... they'll make up the rules as they go along I'm sure.

Grayson County is Region D. Remember, they beat Ridgeview in the first round of the football playoffs? Lol The 8 teams I pick that will make the Region D tournament are Gate City, Union and Wise Central out of the Mountain. Graham, Richlands, Lebanon and Marion out of the Southwest and Grayson County out of their district. Grayson only has 1 loss on the season. How they'll be seeded (by power points) I have no idea. Abingdon should make the 3A region D tournament.

So, since this has become the unofficial girls basketball thread, it should be mentioned that Jada Boyd of Appomattox Regional Governors School (lost to Northwood in 2016 1A finals), scored a VHSL record 69 points, had a VHSL record 33 rebounds and 10 blocks tonight in an OT loss to Franklin County. She scored 69 of ARGS 77 points.

District tournament would be 2 games since they'll for sure get the first round bye. Region would be 3 games if they get to the finals. State would be 3 games if they get to the finals. So a max of 8 postseason games.

I don't know much about high school baseball, I just know Ridgeview has not done particularly well their first two seasons. With Abingdon coming into the M7 this year, I expect them to be the Gate City basketball equivalent in the district, with noone even remotely in their league, other than perhaps Battle? Does Virginia High play Abingdon? That may be a fun one to go watch. I am kind of interested in softball though. Ridgeview was leading the district with two weeks to play last season and went on a 4 game losing streak to close out the regular season, then bowed out in the first round of the district tournament.

It was announced today that the Region 1D and 2D boys and girls basketball tournaments will be at UVa-Wise from February 21-24. I don't know, but would think the schedule will be: February 21 -- 1D & 2D girls semifinals February 22 -- 1D & 2D boys semifinals February 23 -- 1D & 2D girls finals February 24 -- 1D & 2D boys finals Quarters I assume is at higher seed on February 19.

My best guess is, if not their home floor, then probably where the regional is being played at or UVa-Wise.
