i have never agreed with punishing kids the next year for crap the coaches pulled,the coaches being fired ,gate receipts for home games being forfeited and some kind of probation for the program.

There have been so many great players from all over southwest va to play high school ball that were never recruited for college,I guess Thomas Jones opened the eyes of many, they all said he was too small too slow, only played at a small school, then came Heath MILLER,and BRADSHAW, ED CLARK was a man beast among boys.I remember watching him play in a old timers game, and to quote a player from that day "30 years later and he is still the best running back he has ever seen, and he hasnt lost a step"

Gate City-Union or PV/APPY,respect is always there but...GATE CITY has in the past ran the scores up when the game was waaaaay over and the fact that half of the visitor sideline has gate city sitting there dont help,YES I KNOW PHIL has been known to run up the score too, but we dont take up half of the visitors stands with our fans, but Ihave heard that UNION FANS and there band might pay GATE CITY back by taking over the visitor sideline

I have no reason to disbelieve you, I was looking at the VHSL power points from last year and that the student numbers given.If its 741 ,they need to move down , by the way where did you get those numbers?that way I will better informed in the future

POQUOSON has like 1000 kids right?,at least that's the numbers VHSL lists,thats like 400 more kids than UNION and over 500 more than other AA schools,yep its fair , THEY ARE SOFT OUT THERE.tHEY SHOULD LET Abington go to AA TOO.They have to keep the eastern shore happy--

seemed like a good guy, football nut like the rest of us....kinda got me pumped up, I invited him to stand with me at BULLET PARK on RICLANDS side near end zone score board end. Kinda wish WARNER WOULD RUN FOR BIG OFFICE.RICHLANDS is a tough game every year, but there no way I would ever replace them on the UNION schedual....better than any playoff game I have ever seen,and I have seen all of PV state runs and UNIONS P[LAY OFF GAMES

I spoke with a Richlands fan yesterday at my office, he had come by to present a letter of appreciation from SENATOR WARNERS office for national police week.We spoke about football and how things could have been the last two years at the AA state games and how Richlands and UNION games always come down to the last second. I expect UNION,RICHLANDS,GILES,GRAHAM in any order, and APPOMATTOX,DAN RIVER,BUCKINGHAM, and STEWARTS DRAFT(EAST OR WEST?).GOOCLAND ,CLARKE,and does POQUOSON drop to AA this year?

Off subject, but in todays budget crunches(APPALACHIA ELEMENTRY closing)Iwas just wondering from those in the know , if JI BURTON was thinking about closing its doors due to the city having money issues of their own.and if they close where would most of the kids want to attend,CENTRAL WISE or UNION??I have even heard rumors of closing the COEBURN HS, and SAINT PAUL elementary due to low numbers and have them attend other schools(most go to Russell county with it being closer to go to CASTLEWOOD than drive to EASTSIDE).I have heard that the schools in NORTON takes about 60% of the BUDGET and that's the reason they are having a hard time

Its all about the line play,UNION will have to find some studs to battle in the trenches, same with APPO,.RICHLANDS says they will be good on "D" and I have no doubts they will. UNION will have all the skill players back along with JEB STIDHAM on "D". We can look forward to another classic at BULLET PARK on Sept.1 with Richlands .

I still think its VT, then CLEMSON, He has always loved VT and it gives his parents a chance to see him play.Who knows maybe UVA sends T JONES to recruit or ND sends J JONES???

Wise Central use to rent/pay UVA WISE field for $500.00 a game(at least that's what I was told by the campus police) the college provided campus police /parking and the school had clubs clean up after the game.I don't see how that the schools bluefield/graham could make any money with the rent being so high. GOOD luck to both schools in getting this resolved,

JLA is a good QB and he will be fine,I wish some of the local kids would get their due credit for what they have done, not where they play.I also wish the service ACADEMIES would get a harder look by our local talent. I know not everyone is willing to serve, but they build charactor and men, something most colleges dont.I hope that JLA sets every record MARSHALL has, good luck.

We keep excepting things that the state has "given us", years ago when coal was king we had the coal tax that kept us in good shape. The non coal counties...namely the eastern shore demanded a slice of the pie, even though they had no coal. Now there is little coal tax and now the cities and counties to the east don't want to foot the bill for the poor counties in SW VA.Our elected government has failed us , both on the local ,state and federal levels,through pay offs to outright stealing from the public. I don't know the answers , but we better find it out soon

congrats BLUES,the Bears need to become road warriors in the future, both in basketball and in football.We have a history of not traveling well, big loses at RICHLANDS and GRAHAM last year.In football, STUARTS DRAFT, CLARKE, APPO, ECT.If you cant go on the road plan on the championships going elseware. The BEARS are not able to go on the road and TAKE IT TO THE OTHER TEAM....just an observation. good season bears

Watching Gate City they seem so effortless,almost like they only play hard when pushed, its almost like they are playing with the other team.James Mitchell is good but MCCLUNG is a step or two better, something to be said about a one sport athlete.GATE CITY will play its best ball in the next couple of weeks, as will UNION, but I look for GATE CITY to really turn it up a notch or two,I see them bringing home a State Title
