  1. I'm going with Marion in this one. MHS - 27 GW - 20
  2. Do you guys think that high school football will ever get to the point of using instant replay?
  3. I can't speak about Pulaski. I don't know much about this year's team. That's why I have yet to put them in my Top 10. I did see Abingdon play JSB. I was impressed. So many fans are ready to write a team off bc they didn't beat an inferior opponent by 50. The game of football (especially between good to great teams) is all about matchups. I may be way off bc of my lack of knowledge of Pulaski, but I'll risk it and take the Falcons in this one.
  4. Now, this is some good info for anyone to read that disagrees with who is included in our coverage area! It's all good, my man! Btw, Forrest Gump is one of my all-time favorites, and that is one of the best lines in the movie! 🤣
  5. No apologies needed. This site is one of my favorite sites on all of the interweb, but I've done the same thing on here before. I've had my beefs with a couple of posters in my time here, as well, and have also apologized to the mods for hijacking a thread. We're all passionate about our teams, and most of us are guilty for letting our emotions get the best of us. Thank you for the offer, but I'm one of those really lucky guys who is married to an awesome woman that loves football. She helps me every week in not only counting the votes, but also on my articles that I write for CoalfieldSports.com.
  6. Ok, since the mods graciously allowed me to run the Top 10 List over the course of this season, I'm gonna put an end to this argument. As @Ryan4VT stated on the podcast last week, it's very time consuming to tally everyone's votes, as it is, without having to go thru everyone's opinions on who should or should not be considered, or having to wade thru a pissing contest between posters. @UVAObserver you are absolutely correct, that anyone who doesn't include Bluefield in their poll, is either biased or doesn't know what they are doing. @PV2VT you are absolutely correct as well. Salem is as good as it gets in this area, but the site creators have decided that they are not in our coverage area. That is not going to change. You don't have to like it, but that's just the way it is. They will not be included in the final results of our poll. @24282 has every right to include or exclude anyone in our coverage area in his poll. I also think it's crazy to leave Bluefield out, but Harambe received multiple write-in votes in our last presidential election. As stupid as that was, it was their right. @UVAObserver & @TwhscoachT I've respected a lot of the material both of you guys have added to this site in my couple of years here. I understand that you guys don't get along, but I would appreciate it if you guys wouldn't clutter up these particular thread with your beef. Thanks to everyone who votes. Let's try to do our best in keeping these weekly threads to voting only. You can add a brief description as to why you feel the way you do on your own post, but it's much appreciated by me, if these threads don't have more argument posts than actual voting posts. We may not all get along, but we all do love football and we love our team and players that we pull for. This thread needs to focus on that......Thanks!
  7. Jeez, it must be nice! 😂 We know that feeling in baseball at VHS, but in football, it doesn't get more mediocre than us! Graham and Glenvar are definitely tough ones, but your young bucks at Giles should only benefit from this tough schedule. That's one of the reasons we are high on the Bearcats this year, they are battle tested. As freshmen, this group of seniors traveled to defending State champ in Glenvar, to open the playoffs. As sophomores in 2016 they traveled to defending State champ in Appomattox in the first round. Last year, they beat an 8-0 Marion team in the regular season, then had to host them again 2 weeks later, in the playoffs. Add in the strong Richlands and Graham teams in the SWD over the last few years, 2 straight years against Union in the Benefit Game, the annual game against Tn. High(which gets closer every year) and our boys are battle tested as well. They're not State champion material, but an 8-2 type season, with a win or two in the playoffs is possible. For a school that hasn't won a Regional championship since the 80's, or a State championship since 1933, that would be considered a great year.
  8. Yeah, he told me about the youth. He said he feels that the youth is pretty good though, and Giles should be back to normal, sooner rather than later.
  9. You and I have talked before about our mutual friend, the former Giles and E&H standout, and he echoed this exact sentiment to me, this past Friday night!
  10. Outside of the first 15 minutes of game time in Week 1, you are very right. In less than 1 1/2 quarters, the Bearcats built up a 30-7 lead, and looked completely dominant in doing so. Since then, outside of one or two players, VHS has been playing very flat. The passing game has not found it's rhythm. 14-35, 250 yds, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs is not where they expected to be thru 2 games. It's not all on our QB. In two games, we have dropped 4 for sure touchdowns on drives that ended with a punt. The defense has been fine, outside of about 8-10 minutes of game time between the 2nd & 3rd quarters in Tazewell, but Tazewell will score a lot by season's end. The running game has done pretty well. The starting RB has 28 carries for 333 yards and 4 TDs in the first 2 games. He also ran at 7 ypc against Union, but only 4 carries, because the coaches are desperately trying to find some depth at that position Overall, I agree with you. The Bearcats are definitely underwhelming as a team, so far. If they get their passing game on track, that will help, for sure. They have 5 consecutive weeks ahead of them(4 opponents and the bye week) before they play their next district game, at home against the G-Men. If they don't have their passing game straightened out by then, they will already be an afterthought! 🤣 In that time they play Tn. High, Wise, Chilhowie, and Abingdon. Thanks for the good wishes! Good luck to you guys as well!
  11. Yes, sir! Bring some type of padding to sit on. The Castle looks awesome, but if you're over 5' 2", it's very uncomfortable. Not much leg space from one row, down to the next, which means if you put your feet flat on the row in front of you, your knees will be in your belly/chest area. 😂 I'm a big guy, so whenever I go there, I go early enough to get a seat on the top row. The design of the Castle wall actually gives a lucky few, a much more comfortable place to sit, over the actual bleachers seats.
  12. The 102nd edition of the V-T game will be played at the Stone Castle this week. Most years, VHS doesn't have much of a shot in this game. I know what it's like to be a part of a Bearcat team to win this game. It still holds a special place in me, 24 years later. All of us on the "Little Brother" side of town knew 7 or 8 years ago, that 2017 and 2018 would present our best chance to hang with the Vikings in current times. That proved to be the case last year, in a greatly played game that saw the Vikings make a couple more plays than the Bearcats, to pull away late with a win. I feel that this year will be more of the same. It's rare for the Bearcats to actually have the best football player on the field, in their many matchups with the Vikings, but many people will admit that this is the case this year. Now, as always, THS will be far ahead in the depth department, and they have had a heck of a start to this season, but if the Bearcats stay healthy, they have a shot again this year. The VHS player I mentioned above, had an outstanding game against the Vikings last year with 100 yds rushing, 2 TDs, and 16 tackles on defense. So far this season, he is averaging 12 ypc with 4 TDs and 23 tackles on defense, in 2 games. Many fans in the area don't know him, but I guarantee that every coach in SWVA and many in NETN do. This is normally the case when an average football program, has a kid that is good enough to play at the next level. It's kinda weird! Lol This athlete, and his senior teammates, have played a ton of ball together over the years. They have outstanding chemistry, are a very special group, and will come ready to fight on Friday night. Depth should allow THS to be the favorite, but I believe in this group of Bearcats. They want this one badly. Part of their game against Battle, saw them kinda looking ahead to this game, combined with the fact that our coaches worked on developing depth in the backfield, to give the aforementioned Bearcat a little help. If either team is not ready for this game, for whatever reason, it will be a long night for that team. I don't believe that will be the case. Both teams will fight, and I honestly think, and may be the only member on the board who does, that the Bearcats have just enough to clean up last year's mistakes from this game, and will grind out a close win, to finally get the THS monkey off of their backs. VHS - 24 THS - 20 Good luck Vikings! I hope to see an injury-free, competitive game.
  13. Sorry I'm late, guys. Opening Saturday of college football had me glued to the TV, and I forgot my responsibility of our list. Please vote! The deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 5th, at 5:00. 1. Bluefield 2. Ridgeview 3. Union 4. Graham 5. VHS 6. Abingdon 7. Richlands 8. Chilhowie 9. Grayson Co. 10. Galax
  14. Tried some youngsters in the backfield to find some depth tonight. It didn't work. This will answer all questions.... https://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/rose-rumbles-as-bearcats-get-past-trojans/article_95b30732-ad9a-11e8-87db-774e60342912.html ( Sent from HeraldCourier.com )
  15. This is the thread with the results of the voting done between last Saturday morning and yesterday evening at 5:00. Your poll from Monday was counted in these results. I will make a new thread on Saturday morning to vote for next week's list.

  17. VHS gets some key reserves back from injury. They will make it through 3 quarters before getting gassed this week 🤣 VHS - 38 JSB - 10
  18. Abingdon - 47 GC - 0
  19. I'm going against the grain. There are some new faces carrying the load for both teams this year. No nailbiter this time. Richlands - 31 Union - 17
  20. I did. From about the 3:20 mark, on.
  21. Which team in Week 2 is in the best shape to come away with a for sure win and which team has the best shot in pulling an upset? How do you guys feel about the fact that SWVA teams will play 2 August games this year? I watched 2 games last week, and all 4 teams had multiple kids go down with cramps. In your guys' opinions, does a post Labor Day start to the season help with that? I know cramps are a part of early season football, but earlier starts to the school year, and to the season, can't help.
  22. The deadline for voting in the poll will be extended each week until Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm. It will be posted here on Wednesday night, and will also be posted on CoalfieldSports.com and will be discussed on the 2nd podcast of each week.
