Any news on the kid from VA High that got a double technical at Tazewell? I heard any and all ejections are 7 game suspensions in basketball. Rewatched it on NFHS. Looked like it was an interesting environment to say the least in Tazewell last week. Some fans and the girls coach went on the court during it all and looks like the cops had to kick them out. If he's out for 7 games that leaves VA High with not much size at all.

    Double technical , geez!

The starter was chance parker. He played tonight but was limited. Still managed to have 3-4 pretty athletic blocks. If Lebanon wants to have a shot of winning anything they need to start playing as a team instead of individuals. Most importantly, get rid of the daddy ball factor. Still a very impressive win for the g men. I swear it felt like the point guard (I think it’s ray) didn’t miss a single three he shot till the second half. I understand that some kids have an off night shooting but I have no clue how v high beat that team by 20.

Yes, that kid did have some good blocks. Ray has had some off games but this one he was on fire. He’s a leader on the court directing everyone where to be. That helps The Disibbio kid is only a freshmen. He was knocking some down tonight too. Graham has three freshmen & only one Senior and he doesn’t play that much. When Graham played VH, they struggled with their big guy. I thought they might struggle with the Reece kid especially under the basketball but they handled him pretty well for the most part. Hopefully, the Pioneers can learn from this game and start working better as a team. I truly wouldn’t be shocked if when they play at Lebanon it’s a nail biter. I think any given game, several teams could take win, the region is that close.

  3. Graham sweeps Lebanon.

Graham Varsity boys beat Lebanon pretty handily. Graham had several fouls early though. Lebanon came out strong the first couple minutes of 2nd half.

Running clock late in the 4th for a bit. Ray & Disibbio hit several of 3s. Lebanon had a few too. I’m not sure what starters might have been out for Lebanon.  The Reece kid played & Wess kid, they both seemed to be the better players for Lebanon tonight.

    71-43 Final

  4. I heard if Graham gets a stadium that the funding will need to come from the community. There are no funds allocated from the school board, town, or county. I wonder what price tag we’re looking at and if enough donations can be collected to make it a reality.

Yes, on Richlands field, get the color right time, lol.

Played well tonight against Marion, 40 point win.  May need to bring up a couple more jv players at seasons end, if they get in foul trouble, only having 8 players

I think most of the JV are 8th graders but definitely might have to bring up a couple if they can. It’s a shame they lost Isabelle & Floyd.

I can see it for Yew. He's older, has coached a long time, lost a great senior class. This one doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, me either. It would be hard to replicate the success of the past couple years losing the talent of some of those seniors like Forbes.

I’d love to see Graham and Abingdon play. Would be interesting to see how Graham handles the big man.

They couldn’t handle VH’s big man. They play Lebanon Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if Graham can get the win. Richlands stayed right with Graham until 3rd Q. With that said, Graham is definitely clicking better than the VH game. I still think they’ll struggle with teams who have a “big man” in the paint.

We are getting into "Tastee Freeze" territory here with only about 12 Tastee Freezes left in America. Just rare to find one, much like Lebanons Bonanza.

I’m just glad in the absence of Tastee Freeze we still have some DQ’s in our area. Man, Tastee Freeze was great though.

How many guys qualified to coach/teach QB's are available in the whole state? Especially when you consider many would have to be classroom teachers also. Given what teachers earn these days, with the added pressures of dealing with Facebook politics surrounding our screwed up education system, I couldn't imagine that number would be very high. Single digits? Maybe a dozen?

I’m not saying it’s a realistic expectation I’m just saying it would be real nice if everybody had one. I honestly don’t know how some of these guys coach with the stuff they have to put up with but kudos to them for sticking with it. It has to be because they love the game and love kids.  As far as teachers, there’s a reason they’re leaving the profession in droves, and there’s a shortage. If I was a person with school-age children, I’d seriously consider homeschooling them.

Well, I think it is obvious that what is going on at Lebanon is centered around keeping that kid and his dad as a coach.  Look, throwing a kid in an offense that passes a lot is one thing but developing that kid and teaching him how to correctly make reads and dissect a defense and understand the subtleties of playing that position is another thing.  Exactly who in this region is the quarterback whisperer?  It was Mance...he is gone.  My apologies to anyone at Honaker or Lebanon, but who there makes you think they will turn the kid into a D-1 prospect?  One dude has the prior experience of working with and developing QBs and look what RV did to him.

At this point the kid is already behind his fellow QBs.  He hasn't worked with good speed WRs...so timing is already poor.  He doesn't see man/press coverage so he has zero experience throwing against man or even reading if the defense is in man.  He certainly hasn't seen disguised coverages nor has been given read/check down authority in a game. Every QB at the 4A and above level has already seen this.  And most of them have a dedicated QB coach.  If the goal is for pops to coach his kid......that's a bad strategy.  If the goal is to have his kid developed.....there really is only one dude around the area that has that resume. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I think every team needs a dedicated QB coach who knows how to develop them and maximize a kid’s potential. Nothing against Graham’s staff but I wish they had the one with the resumè that you speak of which I have no clue who that is but I wish the GMen had one.

Ain’t he busy coaching basketball right now and when I say coaching I mean getting the shit kick out of them. Lebanon scored over a 100 points on them last night. I’m no Einstein but why in the world would that kid from Lebanon consider transferring to Richlands. You people better hope Ronnie Davis is a better football coach than basketball because that was downright painful to watch last night.

Lebanon hung over 100 on Richlands, dang! I just can’t see the Reece kid leaving Lebanon for Richlands unless there’s some kind of sweet deal to entice him. 😂😂😂 Just kidding but doesn’t he play baseball? They were state champs. Do leave a successful program in one sport to help build a recently unsuccessful one at another school?

It's quite interesting that folks are talking not about what Davis brings to the table, but what D. Palmer would bring to the table after this hire.

I think from the perspective of Richlands folks the talk of Dennis Palmer is merely in the form of wishful thinking. They know firsthand the success Richlands had with him as defensive coordinator and maybe a bit of nostalgia.

With the exception of a few, most of the people in Richlands are excited about Davis and his ability to right the ship.

Someone referenced the state championship in softball under him. Without Osborne as pitcher, I don’t think that would have happened just like without Compton, I don’t think Tazewell wins either. No knock on either head coach both are quality guys but sometimes talent can win a championship regardless of head coach in a sport like softball.

Yeah, I meant "March" to imply working all year. It's hard to compete on a state level if you're not in the weight room all year long. That's why so many schools are replacing traditional gym classes with weight training. But you can't force kids into it. They either want to or they don't.

I overheard a decently famous golf instructor tell a dad one time, "if he's not doing this on his own, dragging you out of the house to hit balls everyday, he's never going anywhere in this game. You can't do it for him and you can't force desire!"

Spot on…you can’t force desire and so many kids these days want the rewards but want to bypass the work to get there.

If the kids aren't willing to put the work in for football, baseball and basketball is all they will have. Football just isn't a seasonal sport anymore. Without exception, the teams that play in December are the teams working in March.

    Or ones starting in January

If anyone knows anything about what's happened in Russell county the past couple of years, then its obvious the next coach will be Mark Palmer.

That wouldn’t be a bad hire as far as football is concerned. I obviously don’t know what’s been going on in Russell County but Palmer is a knowledgeable football coach & if Lebanon QB stays and more come out to play, the Pioneers might move up the SWD ladder next season. I know others will disagree but as far as best overall QB (all aspects of the game) in SWD,  Reece is it. Give him some decent receivers, Lebanon will have a winning record next season.

Yeah, if you cannot even manage a few regional titles , you might not be legacy status yet, lol!
