I hope you're right. The School system had the money to build the stadium, then it got "sequestered" by the county. They will have to come up with new funding sources now. I'm confident that they will do that. My hope is they at least have seating and lighting up in a season or 2, the concessions and restrooms can be done later. The School can be opened up for locker rooms beside the gym for the opponent and the field house can be used for Graham.

If the city of Bluefield would have done a 2 year contract, like every other contract before, it would be avoided. They knew the plan was to have a stadium for Graham in the next 2 years. They tried to strong arm them into a 5 year contract.... It's disappointing, but I'm not surprised at this whole situation.

Tazewell would bring a big crowd. I think that game would have to be at Tazewell or Richlands. As a Tazewell fan, playing at Richlands works out just fine. As a Graham fan, it sucks to travel that far for a home game, but it is what it is

There have been teams in the past that have had to play all of their "home" games at other stadiums for various reasons, wouldn't be the first time a team had to play all of their games on the road. The # 1 priority right now, should be to get Lights at Graham's field. That would solve a lot of conflicts with youth, middle school and JV football. If somebody steps up and forks over some money for lights, they could definitely be up before the season starts...

Yeah, I just found his Twitter. He has "Fort" on his jersey in his profile pic. Fort Defiance possibly? It's a Blue Jersey, Gold helmet. He looks like he can contribute, Plays Center. He's got a few extra pounds on him, but he moves well from the short video clips I saw. Graham will get him in top condition. Bulldogs are working hard and there is some optimism around the team. The new coach is big on strength and conditioning. I hope he sticks around for a few years, I think they will improve quite a bit, but it may not show in his first year at the helm, it takes a while to learn a new system. I like the new coach a lot, very personable and the players seem to like him too, that's important. Tazewell has a couple of freshmen that transferred in, one from Mississippi and one from Mount View. The Mount View kid plays basketball, not sure about football. I think the kid from Mississippi plays baseball and football and is pretty athletic. A couple of good athletes that didn't play last year have come back out this season for football. It'll be interesting to see how things go with a new system. It may take a while to get things going, just hope everybody is patient with the process. edit: I mistakenly posted that Concord offered the transfer for Graham. They did not. I edited it out.

They have a couple of big upcoming freshman, but they would be class of 29.

I agree, I think even if somebody were to step up and donate the money for the next 3 years. The prevailing attitude would be to procrastinate. This way, it will get done faster. I think it will be fine this year. The big gate games (Bluefield, Union and Tazewell) will all be played at Mitchell, Tazewell and Richlands. The smaller crowds will be played at Graham or perhaps at Tazewell this year). I'm hearing 2 or 3 games will be played at the new field (Marion and Lebanon)....but those could still be moved to Tazewell

Tazewell County squeezes a nickel so hard, the Buffalo has to take a crap....although I wish you were correct, it's not going to happen. But the City of Bluefield is being ridiculous.

I agree. There needs to be some creative ways to bring in money. Look at Grants, the NFL has a foundation that gives to youth football programs. There are foundations for low-income communities that give grants and loans. The state of Virginia is sitting on $288 million right now that is ear marked for low income-school systems for new facilities and Tazewell County is high on that list. Gotta go out and find the money. I like the idea of sponsorships too. Hitachi Energy has already contributed some benches and a scoreboard. Perhaps Bluefield University could be approached for some type of partnership too

All High schools in the same School System should have equal access to on campus facilities. I hope it gets done sooner then later. Little League can play at the middle school , just need to paint the lines, no big deal. As far as bringing your own chairs, I'm all for it, maybe that will wake some people up. I think they plan to get in some temporary bleachers or something for the visitors .....it'll work out fine. As far as being dismissive to the community. The community has been dismissed for 80 years, they're used to it.

Apparently Southern Gap (Buchanan County) went 6-1 at the 7 on 7 in Princeton and also won the linemen competition.

Alternating sections of cardinal red and gold (like the 2nd link) would be cool and visitors side similar to what Tazewell has.... They would need a press box of some type at the top, there's plenty of capable kids at the Vocational School that could probably build that, there's some talented kids over there...that wouldn't have to be too big...maybe a couple of small rooms for coaches and media. I was thinking that the gym could be opened up behind the home side for restrooms, concessions and access for the away team locker rooms. Graham could use the field house for their locker room. Anybody else have any interesting ideas. I was just thinking about possibilities

I do believe lights at GHS should be the next priority. Their soccer teams also pay to play at East River, from what I have been told. Lights would allow soccer games to be played at GHS, that should definitely be a priority. Parents are used to sitting on lawn chairs at soccer games and the crowds aren't as big.
