  1. I know the score will not show it, but they actually started doing this to Richlands in the scrimmage game, but ran out of steam when they had a holding call that caused a 1st and 20, and on another drive, 2 false starts that turned a 2nd and 3 into 2nd and 13. If they can avoid this stuff, they likely matchup well with their front 5 against the other 1A teams defensive front 4s. But it requires them to be nearly perfect.
  2. Amelia County 8, Thomas Jefferson 7. These two schools will likely be the 3rd and 4th seeds in Region A behind King William and Poquoson. Thomas Jefferson actually won the region in 2019. Poquoson won the region this spring in 2021, but TJ, Amelia, and King William set out the spring of 2021. Big win for Amelia County in Region A.
  3. And I can understand the above for a 4A program with low numbers and turnout and not a football school. There are some like that. The head scratcher is what they have done in the last 60 months, a state title and a near miss, likely should have had 2 state titles. Now, that is one serious fall from the top.
  4. It's been discussed as Galax in the West and a host of others fighting for that 2 spot or the second best team behind Galax I've heard Chilhowie, Burton, Holston, Narrows, Giles, George Wythe, Patrick Henry. I think Grundy was left out. I watched Grundy in the scrimmage against Richlands. No question, Richlands dominated on the scoreboard, but Grundy actually pushed Richlands off the ball a LOT in that game and was able to get big chunks on the ground. If Grundy can not turn the ball over and not get 1st and 15's with false starts, etc, they can be a problem at the Class 1 level because they are actually pretty good up front. Meaning, I think Grundy is in the conversation with the host of others as second best behind Galax.
  5. Grundy 20, Blacksburg 19. A team that won the 3A State Title in 2016 and a team that was probably the best 4A team in 2017 losing a nailbiter to Salem and Salem went on to win the state title easily. Now, in only a 4 year period, they are 0-2. Those two losses for Blacksburg, the Class 4 school comes at the hands of Giles Class 1, and Grundy, Class 1. Now it's one thing to struggle or have a down season, and I know Giles and Blacksburg is an opening traditional rival game dating back to the old New River, but going from a State Title in 16 at 3A and probably should have had another in 17 at the 4A level to losing to not one, but two Class 1 schools to open the season. Craziness.
  6. Princeton 55, Oak Hill 30. Final Princeton getting it done this year Quite a turn around with their program
  7. Radford 43, Fort Chiswell 7, Final.
  8. Hard to play with energy when a massive juggernaut comes out angry. Graham's absolutely nasty and scary when they don't beat themselves and do the self inflicted stuff.
  9. Guys, again no Dog in the Fight here, bit this has been discussed before and that is.....PLAY ASAP. It's been talked about on here the ease how Covid strikes and how fast. This one is on the GC AD and Abingdon AD. The game should have been played last night IF possible. I understand there's an official shortage, but if officials were available, then both ADs waited to long.
  10. Hard to pick against Draft. Draft is so we'll coaches and it shows.
  11. What about Lawing oldfool? What kind of damage was done to this kids shoulder? How long is he out for? I hope he comes back ASAP. He's a senior and special player and it would be a shame for this kid to miss his entire senior season, especially since he's been healthy mostly and started since a freshmen.
  12. Radford vs Fort Chiswell, Princeton vs Oak Hill, Union vs JI Burton, Central vs Ridgeview, Va High vs Patrick Henry, Abingdon vs Gate City, and a big one in the middle of the state, Appomattox vs Heritage
  13. Abingdon Radford Richlands Holston Union Marion Tazewell Virginia Rye Cove Galax George Wythe Floyd County Narrows Hurley Thomas Walker Lebanon Twin Springs Princeton Virginia No. 3 Ohio St. Tennessee No. 19 Virginia Tech No. 9 Iowa St. West Virginia Marshall Appalachian State Michigan Buffalo Tennessee Kansas City Green Bay Los Angeles Rams GotW Ridgeview 45
  14. The York Poquoson game was not a surprise. York is a big school, has very, very good talent and returned a bunch. As for Poquoson, 4 turnovers in that game and over 100 yards in penalties, with 2 turnovers inside the the York 25. As crazy as the final score was, Poquoson likely outgained York in Total Yards. All in all, Region A in my opinion, will play for a state title with the winner of King William and Poquoson. Even in the loss, Poquoson looked very good to me for a 2A team. Take away the turnovers and penalties, and they probably win that game. King William looks good down there also. Draft and Buckingham will have something to say about it in Region B, but I think Region A gets back to the state title this year for the first time since Goochland went in 2018. Goochland is now 3A. King William looks 7 points better to me than Poquoson and has to be the favorite coming out of there.
  15. York 16, Poquoson 13 11:35 left in the game
  16. Marion 27, Saltville 7, 9:31 left in the second quarter
  17. Halftime Poquoson 13, York 8. This game is being played in intermittent rain storms. Very wet field.
  18. Poquoson 13, York 0. (PAT was blocked) 6:45 left in the second quarter. York's defense seems a little shocked at Poquoson's QB and passing game. The QB seems to be laser accurate and Poquoson has actually shredded York a bunch in the air. Poquoson's kicker kicked off to start the game, and kicked off with the 2 touchdowns for a total of 3 kickoffs. All three have been completely out of the endzone.and nowhere close to being returnable.
  19. 2:15 seconds left in First Quarter, Poquoson 7, York 0. Poquoson, known down east to be much like Union in reputation for putting the ball in the air as a last resort, completed 2 critical passes in their scoring drive that ate up 6 minutes and 15 seconds on the game clock. They scored on a 32 yard pass.
  20. On NFHS tonight (Thursday) Holston vs JBattle, Marion vs Northwood, Lebanon vs Eastside Two games across the state that features very good teams in their respective Divisions are Phoebus vs Warwick and York vs 2A Poquoson. I will be watching Poquoson since they are 2A and will post the scores of their game with Warwick. I have no idea how many games are still on
  21. I here ya man. Im hoping this thing will get on with it and just get the heck out of town, but Covid seems like it can take a punch and fire back a straight right overhand. I thought it would be gone by now and we would have a normal football season. It's anything but normal.
  22. I here what your saying Tigerman. I understand that blood clots is no big deal, not a factor at all with one vax. But, what about one vax and 2 or 3 boosters? I don't think they know yet how that will go down. Maybe they already know it and have found it safe, but again, as long as I got antibodies and can pay the 75 bucks every 12 weeks to ensure I haven't lost em, then I just ain't sold on a booster yet. Now admitted, I'm far more 30x more scared of one single needle in my muscle than a blood clot risk. Getting an IV blood draw doesn't bother me one bit, but when they go deep and got the muscle, I have passed out two times in my past.
  23. I have read the same thing. The wife and I got vaxd, but I have read about blood clots that are not serious and no big deal that come from the spike proteins in the vax and vax boosters. However, I'm not going to just add booster shots on order to have piece of mind about Covid when I have antibodies against the Virus. I'm not risking an accumulation of clots if there is no gain in a booster. I do feel some, not all of em, but some are shooting at the hip with the booster recommendations. Meaning, they really aren't sure and seem to be all over the place for or against. The wife and I had the virus and have had the vax. We pay 150 bucks total (75 a piece) every 3 months to check our antibodies. As long as we have them, I will not be getting a booster. The first test that shows we don't have an adequate level of antibodies will result in me boostering up. I think there is something to be said about natural immunity to the virus (having had the virus.) I've read a couple articles that said the natural antibodies may last for years, but that they didn't know/unsure.
  24. Billy Haun from way back in the day. Went from being GWs Head Coach in the mid 80s and on up through the ranks to later become the Executive Director of the VHSL. I think he is now with VA Dept of Education.
  25. With Union and Graham in my opinion this year, the athletic gap and line gap has closed this year. Meaning, Graham always perceived as much more athletic is not much more athletic across the board as Union this year. They still hold the edge in athleticism, but not much. Union, perceived as more talented on the line in my opinion still has the edge over Graham, but with Graham's depth and maturity on the line this year, that gap has also closed. Going to be a heck of a game when those juggernaut s battle. Graham looks to me to be as good as they have been on the line since 2018 when they last won a title. Union to me, as a whole, looks more athletic across the board than the team that lost the nailbiter to Appo years ago.
