Why would no Graham player be eligible this year? Martin is the guy that wouldn't surprise me if hes a candidate for POY next year along with Dissibio. Martin has some serious natural talent and it took off and started to really show by seasons end. Has a scary high ceiling. Dissibio may be POY next year. I just I dont think it will be easy. The kid from Woodstock can play. Is there a rule that junior's can't get POY? Im not aware of it, but there might be. I think Dissibio and Martin will both be so good next year that they hinder each others chances for POY as one of them could score 32 or 33 per game, but there unselfishness leads to 16 or 17 a game for each player. Thats also why Graham cut the nets down. The improvement by Dissibio from his sophomore to junior year was alarming and as Stelley said, if he does similar improvement to his senior year, then I also think hes a POY candidate. But, not a lock or an easy POY award. The kid from Central will challenge for that award or at least be in the mix.

Batiz-Lugo from Central Woodstock. who Graham just beat, has offers from ODU and William and Mary. He returns next year for his senior season. He might have something to say about that. At least, enough to say it won't be "easily."

Was Travis any kin to Brian Hooker? I played against Brian Hooker once (thankfully only once) in a summer league/round robin scrimmage basketball event in the late 80s. He dropped 46 points on my Bobcats squad and hit about 10 three pointers. I think Brian might have become the AD at one point at Lebanon. Brian is one of the best HS pure shooters I ever did see.

The WVSSAC is about as good as it gets in he United States. Its not perfect, but compared to most states including the VHSL, their organizationn is simply better. Their ideas are better. The way they do their state tournaments are better. WV Video Productions and their coverage and broadcast of the games is better. All of it is just better. No other way to put it. Bluefield will likely play Wyoming East in the state semis if Bluefield wins. Wyoming East must also win their quarters game, but are a heavy favorite in their quarters game.

Lots more could possibly be behind the story here that we dont know about. Jesse isn't an engineer, nurse, electrician, or CPA. Hes in HS. He doesn't provide for a family. Somebody older than him does. Could be family move related to the job field of a parent or guardian. There's probably more in play behind the scenes than simply "Jesse, a 15 or 16 year old kid wants more exposure so he decides to move to BSG." -
Congrats Lady Falcons. Great team. Great basketball played in the M7. Best in Virginia's girls hoops.

Class 1,2,3, and 4 title games all in Salem-2026

Salem is Field Turf, not natural grass -
On that we disagree again because your premise implies he's done growing. His weight is as much as McClungs was when Mac was a sophomore. Jackson is a sophomore in HS, not a senior. Hes likely not done growing in height, but will easily add 20 lbs of muscle weight by end of his senior year. Hes D1 in basketball if he pursued it. Hes not being led to baseball by being in swva. His father was a phenomenal baseball player and the Jackson kid is one of the top sophomores in America in baseball. Thats not being led to baseball. That is......baseball is clearly in your bloodline from age 5.

Fort Chiswell and Luray might have beat Graham and Central Woodstock. Yes, Graham would be favored, but Fort Chiswell would play with Graham. Their team is good. Sutfin can play. Sutfins dad or uncle (I dont know the relation played at Rocky Gap and Radford (Pat Sutfin). I knew Pat back in the day and played against him. FC actually has a good cast. Jackson puts up 40 shots because he's a major Div 1 player, even though he'll play baseball. Tyler Nickel put up 40 shots and so did McClung. East Rockingham was good. They had more than Nickel and Gate City had D1 Ervin and D2 Dean. As for us lying to ourselves by comparing him to McClung? Why? I disagree with you 100 percent on this. What data could we use? Well, Jackson scored more points in VHSL history in fewer games for when he started as a freshmen than any player in the states history. If you do that, you kind of start to get talked about and compared to other former D1 players. The kid is one of the top HS baseball players in America. You can see, he's an athlete. He also has height. McClung was legendary, He played major D1 at GTown and for the R.Raiders, and he has stepped foot on an NBA floor. He is not an NBA Hall of famer though, nor has he ever played a full NBA season on a roster. If the Jackson kid wasn't dominant at baseball, he would be playing on a Div 1 Basketball floor. So, the comparisons aren't "out of this world". I think they are reasonable. I told you guys in December. The best player in the coverage is FCs Jackson. No offense to Hayes or the kid from Patrick Henry, but the best player by far in the coverage area is Jackson. The kid from Wise is easily D2 (High D2) or small D1 easily like an Elon or even ODU. He's got a shot at major D1, but I think lower level D1 like an Elon is more likely. The kid from FC is not borderline D1. Hes D1, but will never take the court due to baseball.

Really ticks me off. Wanted the Fort to win. Heck of an effort though. Get em next year.

Thats actually already in discussion and if it works out smoothly in 2026 with 4 games, there is discussion about bringing Classes 5 and 6 to Salem in 2027 or 28. -
The VHSL football state title games for classes 1 and 2 remain in Salem for 2026, but two more games added to Salem Stadium. Classes 3 and 4 will also be played there. Two games on Friday and 2 on Saturday.

Been saying it for years. For whatever reason, there's just no fear in Graham High School when they go east. They lose some and win some, but to beat them, you better outplay them and simply be a better team because the moment isn't too big for them.
-
GMen like to go East and win in sports contests or play very well (JM last year). Wouldn't surprise me if Graham pulled it off.
-
Keep your heads high Lady Bears. He$$ of a show just to make it there with that much turnover. Future holds a trophy next year.

Don't count out the Bluefield Beavers. Huge win over James Monroe recently and the Beavers advance to the WV AA Final 8 against Petersburg. James Monroe's season was abruptly ended by the Beavers. Bluefield is the 3 seed and Petersburg is the 6th seed. If Bluefield wins, they likely get a showdown in the semis against Wyoming East, if W. East wins their quarterfinal game.

Guys for the love of all things good, let's just lay it out there and stop beating around the bush. The talk or rumor or truth (I don't know) is that Lebanon's Jesse may end up at Union. If he does, wish him the best and hope he tears it up. If he doesn't, wish him the best and hope he tears it up. -

I agree with you, but disagree slightly. There is absolutely no question about his off the field conduct/issues/behavior. That is pretty clear, BUT I dont like revisionist history On The Field to "make us all feel better" in order to get back at the POS individual. Here is what I'm getting at. Sandusky at Penn St as an example. In the years that followed, many fans in Happy Valley slowly wanted to morph or rewrite history On The Field for Sandusky. I would reqd comments like, "ya know, he was an ok DC, he wasn't great." Well, they were delusional. On the field, Sandusky would be approaching the overused word "genius" on the defensive side of the ball. He might be the best On The Field DC in the history of college football. He was actually....that good On The Field. No question, off the field, he is someone who I think should have been executed by the state of PA. The above is my concern about Turner. No question about his of the field behavior, but on the field, the guy could coach. As bad as "it makes us feel" when we say that, its a truth. He could coach. If we lie to ourselves by slowly morphing to the belief that "he was average or not so good on the field," we become the liar or delusional ones just like Turner was Off the Field. We dont need to become that. We can separate the two, On the Field and Off the Field. -

I know JHs son is at Emory and Henry. I think he will be a sophomore, so maybe this was the reason for the Abingdon comment and JH being there in 2 years as Abingdon is closer to EH. 2 years from now, that means the son is a senior. You don't move from one school to another school to be closer to your child for only 9 or 10 months. If you move from one school to another to be with your child, you do it to be with your child for 3 or 4 years. That ship has sailed, so if the comment about Abingdon was made based on JH being closer to Emory and Henry, understand his son will only have 9 or 10 months of school left in 2 years, then what? The kid may take a jo in Idaho or NC or wherever. Harless will be at Union in 2 years trying to beat Graham and Graham trying to beat him and the winner of D being a heavy favorite to win the state title.<----that's the more likely future. -

And on that, we disagree. Hes a higher level coach in my opinion because offensively, far more knowledgeable. That's evidenced by watching Lord B's screen concepts compared to Union's non existent screen game, or close to non-existent. The above is not to say Turner wasn't a good coach. And no, I'm not talking about the off field obvious issues, but on the field, running a program, preparation, he was a top 10 percent Class 2 Va HS Coach. But the difference in him and Harless? Dramatic difference on the offensive side of the ball and that is where Union came up short in a large percentage of their late season losses. That instantly changes in August. -
