  1. [ QUOTE ] Davis was telling people at the GW weight room tonight that he was staying at GW. He has been going to the GW weight room regularly and unless someone has seen him at the Bluefield weight room lately, I'd say he's made up his mind. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the info RockinRoonsFan. Keep us up to date on GW this season. \we need more folks from the HOGO posting on here...there have been a few from Lebanon and Rural Retreat but that's about it.
  2. [ QUOTE ] Coach Carlock may have had a slight stroke on tuesday evening. He is at UVA and from what I am hearing he is doing quite well. My source is a Graham coach. [/ QUOTE ] Yep, that's the word I got this afternoon as well...in the hospital at UVA undergoing a some tests and doing OK...source was also a Graham coach.
  3. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I've had to play against this guy since JV and he's the most elusive runningback I've ever had to play against. [/ QUOTE ] I thought he was QB?? [/ QUOTE ] He can play lots of positions...
  4. I don't know what's going on...in talking with GW faithful, he's staying in Wytheville. Talking to Bluefield faithful, he's going to Bluefield. I did speak with someone "close" to the Bluefield program over the weekend. He didn't think anything was for certain just yet. He was very hopeful, though, after seeing the young man's abilities on the field. I guess we will have to wait a few more weeks to find out for sure.
  5. "Not so fast my friend"... Rumors swirling on the VAPreps Class A Football Board that DD is staying at Wytheville...may still get his lil bro though. Will be interesting to see how this all turns out...
  6. [ QUOTE ] Is it just me or did everyone notice Graham is on there twice? Why they have Graham under AA and under A .... which one is it... In AA they have us in pretty much the same district adding Marion and Leb. minus Carroll County... But then in A ... its that one yall said with all the regular Single A.... Which is it? [/ QUOTE ] I think they set it up based on enrollment then "reassigned" some teams based on past history of "playing up" and forgot to remove Graham from the Class A list. Either way, I think the VHSL is taking a small step in the right direction...
  7. Sorry to hear about your father! Hang in there...God has a reason for everything that happens...

  11. [ QUOTE ] They tasted state championship blood last year when they battled Gretna [/ QUOTE ] I love how you consider it a "battle" losing by 4 TDs. The only blood the 'Dawgs tasted that day was their own...
  12. Brochure??? Guess who's on the front cover.... STEP UP...2005 Marshall University Thundering Herd C-USA Inaugural Season
  13. [ QUOTE ] any graham fans out there, who will be some players that look to be big in the upcoming season? i really havent herd much from graham except for there QB being named Workman i believe.. [/ QUOTE ] Or Yost...
  14. Some games not mentioned so far...there were many great games that I remember and could write about but these five seem to stand out in my mind... 1997...Gate City vs. Graham...26-20 TRIPLE OVERTIME...Jake Houseright carried Gate City to the win over a very fired up Graham team. GC went on to beat Graham again in the playoffs and won the AA, D-3 Championship. 1981...Tazewell vs. Graham...Region IV Championship...aka. THE SNOW BOWL...Tazewell kicked a FG early in the game to take a 3-0 lead at a very snowy Mitchell Stadium. They held the lead late and looked as if they were going to seal up the victory by pinning Graham deep in there own end. With time winding down, Eddie Neal dropped back and heaved a bomb through the snowy night. Lee Grimes ran under the ball about 40 yards upfield as the Tazewell DB fell to the ground...no one was close to him...TOUCHDOWN Graham...Final Score: Graham 6 Tazewell 3. 1995...Bluefield vs. Graham...The Beavers scored early and often jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. The G-Men never quit scoring the games final 26 points to win 26-20. 1995...William Campbell vs. Graham...Undefeated William Campbell stormed into Mitchell Stadium for a State Semi-final showdown with the G-Men. The Generals were averaging over 40 points per game but the G-D stepped up holding William Campbell to a single TD and scoring Graham's only points on an INT return for a TD...Graham 7 William Campbell 6. 1988...Final game of a long regular season for the G-Men. They had struggled to a 2-7 record, scoring only 16 points total in their previous 6 games, and faced the undefeated AA #1 ranked Radford Bobcats at Radford. The Bobcats had embarrassed the G-Men a year earlier on the same field in the playoffs by a score of 42-12. And to be honest, most Graham fans were expecting the same kind of outcome on this night. But the G-Men dug deep and played by far their best game of the season and upset Radford 24-21. That game set the stage for the next two seasons for the G-Men. It also added fuel to fire up one of the best VA AA rivalries in the late 80s and early 90s.
  15. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] This thread was about Weir's impressive performance at the Pitt passing scrimmage, not about Michael Vick, Ronald Curry, or the talent in VA. Can we please get back on topic. KBL, I agree w/ you 100%. These guys don't know how much talent was there and would have to see it in person like we did to fully appreciate it. I watched a few Brooke games and they didn't look too bad considering they had a lot of talented athletes decide not to go out for the team this season. I look forward as always to the Weir/Brooke battle. [/ QUOTE ] Buddy, you're failing to understand the underlying theme here. THERE IS NO GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYED IN THE NORTH, PERIOD! That includes high school, college (all classifications), pee wee, pop warner and any other league that has slipped my mind. The only two teams in the "rust belt" that are playing up to the "southern standard" are Ohio State and Michigan. And both of those schools are importing a majority of their players from points south. Please don't take this personally, but we don't take you seriously. [/ QUOTE ] Yeh, you tell him Sandbagger, er, um, I mean Sandman...
  16. [ QUOTE ] The bottom line is, there were a lot of factors that went into Rusty choosing the lowly D2 school. You don't know those factors. [/ QUOTE ] I know for a fact that after Rusty went to WVU's camp last year, he told his dad that it was no wonder that WVU has so few kids from WV playing football for them with the way the in-state kids were treated by the coaching staff. Said it was as if the coaches were "doing the WV kids a favor" by allowing them to attend the camp...very little time spent with the in-state kids by the coaches and even less interest in them as student/athletes. More or less, the in-state kids were looked at as "space takers/money makers" for the camp, not actual, potential prospects.
  17. [ QUOTE ] Too bad "Coop" won't get to see the field this year for WVU [/ QUOTE ] "Coop" won't ever get on the field for WVU, he'll be like the other hundreds of WV kids that go to WVU and never get to play...he is no Quincy Wilson. $5 says he'll be playing in the WVIAC before all is said and done...so will Nate Sowers in two years or less...
  18. Congrats and prayers to the Coach Bishop and his family... One extra Father's Day for Bishop
  19. [ QUOTE ] according to my sources, Grundy & Haysi have both added a game to finish their slate. [/ QUOTE ] With whom??? Each other??? PM me with details...
  20. [ QUOTE ] I'm not going to argue b/c no matter what I say you're going to downgrade it. No team in your area could hang w/ the teams up there, but Weir did. And TJ does pass the ball. One of their WR's already verbally committed to Pitt. We will see this season. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not arguing, just stating my position. I've watched plenty of PA football on Fox Sports...the best teams up there could not hang with the best teams in VA...PERIOD. I personally saw several teams last season that could hang with the best in Western PA...and those teams were no where close to being the best in VA.
  21. Somebody must have slept in today...
  22. That is exactly what I meant B_R. As a very wise man once posted on VAPreps... "For what it's worth, anyone who thinks they can get a picture of any team's capabilities by watching a 7-on-7 is clueless. The entire dynamic of football changes when add linemen. It's like saying that a fast track guy makes a good football player--that conclusion alone would be laughable. You might (a big maybe!) get a feel for the kind of athletes a team may have but even good athletes have to play together and LINEMEN are they key to any team's success, not the hot dog so-called "skill players" that are used in 7-on-7's." 23. [ QUOTE ] I went up the Dave Wannstedt 7 on 7 passing tourney at Pitt today to watch Weir compete, and they did extremely well. They ended the day at a perfect 5-0. They defeated Pittsburgh Central Catholic(2004 PIAA AAAA state champs and the #8 ranked team in the nation last season), Thomas Jefferson(2004 PIAA AAA state champs), North Star, Richland, and Manheim. They played very well on both sides of the ball. Weir will be a team to be reckoned w/ in 2005. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but they look very solid. [/ QUOTE ] After having seen PCC and TJ a couple of times in the playoffs on Fox Sports Pittsburgh last fall, I would say that is no big deal. Neither of those teams ran what I would consider a "passing" oriented offense. And if I remember correctly both teams were fairly "senior-laden"...lots of "new blood" in the mix this year...just my opinion...
  24. [ QUOTE ] Also I thought in '93, graham scored on a pass on the last play of the game to avoid overtime? Anyone recall the '93 bluefield graham game differently? [/ QUOTE ] Actually, Bluefield led 14-12 and Graham had the ball late and was driving. Graham called a pass play, the QB rolled right and threw back left to a wide open Stephen Gunter (I think) who took it up the left sideline for a TD with just over 20 seconds left in the game, putting Graham up 18-14. Bluefield got the ball after the kick-off and ran a couple of plays with time winding down. On the last play of the game, Bluefield attempted a pass that was deflected, picked off, and returned for a TD as time expired giving Graham the 24-14 win. I went to the Tennessee High game in Bristol the next week, Bluefield was playing them tough until the T-High QB broke a long run on the last play of the half. After that, it was all Tennesse High...
  25. [ QUOTE ] Hey GMan, tell Graham to get their payment to use the stadium this fall to the City quickly b/c apparently that money is earmarked for a special project... [/ QUOTE ] You mean they are finally going to re-pave the parking lot??? "Special project"??? Oh boy!!! The City of Bluefield is going to use the money to become OFFICIAL BARON BACKERS!!! This is going to be great!!! EVERYONE is jumping on the BARON BANDWAGON!!! Come along everyone...its going to be a glorious ride!!!
