  1. [ QUOTE ] The outfield wall at Bowen Field is being moved back, 5-10 feet if I'm not mistaken... [/ QUOTE ] I actually think its more than that. Currently its 335 down the line, 345 to the alleys, and 365 to center. The new numbers I heard were like 355, 370, and 385. The hold-up may be trying to figure out where to move the road going into the park...moving the fence back 20 ft. in center would move the road into the creek...
  2. Awesome!!! Its about time this game was on the schedule! Looking forward to seeing the Dawgs in town!
  3. I've heard they were planning on moving the outfield walls back to make it more in line with other minor/major league ball park distances. And from what I understand, that will also involve moving part of the road that leads into city park. Don't know when, or if, this will actually happen but that is what I've heard.
  4. [ QUOTE ] He has been clocked on the track @ 4.4 [/ QUOTE ] Which is the equivalent of about a 4.8 on grass and electronically timed...
  5. You might want to have your coach or AD verify that Bowen will be available...I'm not sure when (or even if) these "renovations" are supposed to happen, but that is what I've heard...you know how things get started around Bluefield...
  6. They started this back in the late fall but haven't done a whole lot with it. I've heard Bluefield College is helping foot the bill for this in order to use the field for practice/games this spring (my understanding is that Bowen Field will be making some renovations to the outfield and will not be available for a while).
  7. Enlarging it...wouldn't be suprised if its not ready come baseball season...
  8. Yeh, I understand...been a tough season for the Blues...
  9. Carroll Co. protected their house last night beating Tazewell 57-55 and Grundy slipped into the SWD driver's seat by completing the season sweep of Richlands 57-46 in Grundy. Grundy now has that "magical" 5 win total in district play (5-2) with only a trip to Carroll Co. remaining on their district schedule. If the Golden Wave can break the season long "win at home/lose on the road" jinx that is plauging all the district teams, they will in all likelihood win the SWD regular season title. Current SWD stanidngs (games remaining) Carroll Co. 3-1 (v.Grundy, v.Graham, @Graham, @Tazewell) Grundy 5-2 (@Carroll Co.) Tazwell 3-2 (@Graham, @Richlands, v.Carroll Co.) Graham 2-2 (@Richlands, @Carroll Co., v.Carroll Co., v.Tazewell) Richlands 0-6 (v.Graham, v.Tazewell)
  10. [ QUOTE ] I think it's a great idea for Grundy and Bluefield to play...the only bad thing is I think Bluefield counts as a Division II game for Grundy, which that doesn't help them any in the playoff picture as far as points. [/ QUOTE ] You'd be suprised...Bluefield will win 7 or 8 games giving you at least 9 pts if you lose and at least 26 points if you beat them. Besides its better than playing those weak Highlands teams that win maybe 2 or 3 games and only give you 19 or 20 points.
  11. [ QUOTE ] most 8th graders aren't mature enough for high school [/ QUOTE ] That can be said for lots of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders as well... I think moving the 8th graders to high school has to be one of, if not the worst idea the Tazewell Co. School Board has floated around in a LOOOONNNGGGG TIME...that and cutting paid coaches' positions a few years back! Just remember one thing folks, when they make a decision that you/I/we don't agree with, their is no one to blame but ourselves...we are the ones who ELECTED these people into those positions.
  12. Yep, that black ice is a bizitch!!! Hit some going around a curve on my way to work this morning...couldn't see it, road was wet from the bit of rain we've had. Fortunately, I skidded off the ice back onto pavement and got control...otherwise, Mr. Guardrail was standing there waiting for me if I hadn't!
  13. [ QUOTE ] Sounds like you know what you're talkin about g-man, I thought it said aliquippa at the end credits, but perhaps not. It does mention aliquippa in the movie though, maybe that's the reason I was thinking that. Speaking of movies and locations, didn't they film a lot of the deer hunter in weirton, home of the weir red riders? They filmed alot of the lassie movie from '94 in the cove in tazewell county. I haven't seen "remember the titans", but we rented it and we're getting ready to watch it in a few minutes. Friday night lights has been out so we rented that. And speaking of burt reynolds, anyone not seen "deliverence"? That's a good movie. God bless. [/ QUOTE ] Here is a bit more trivia for you... The mention of Aliquippa is when Coach Nickerson is talking about the college job offer he mentions that he and "you know who from Aliquippa" are up for the position. Anyway, in the movie, the coach for the Walnut Heights team (which, by the way, was "modeled" after the Quips) was actually THE head coach at Aliquippa HS at that time. I have to correct myself on where it was filmed...I went back and checked, it was actually fimed in Johnstown, PA, not Coraopolis as I stated earlier.
  14. [ QUOTE ] In my opinion a good high school football movie is "all the right moves". It was before some of yalls time, around '83 or early '84, it starred tom cruise. It's more about a player who thinks he's going to be stuck working in a steel mill in a depressing steel town in pa. if he doesn't get a football scholarship, and there's more of that than football, but I'd certainly label it a high school football movie. It was filmed not far from pittsburgh, in a real life pa. high school football crazy town, "aliquipa", home of the quips, if I'm correct. Didn't have the best reviews, but then not many '80s movies did, but if you enjoy high school football movies, you'd likely enjoy it for that. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think they filmed it in Aliquippa, I believe it was filmed up river in a town called Coraopolis. There is a real town across the river from Aliquippa called Ambridge, which was named for the American Bridge Company. They are the basis for the fictional town of Ampipe and the steel mill, American Pipe and Steel Company, in the movie. I actually watched that movie this morning around 3 AM on FX. Insomnia...
  15. [ QUOTE ] does vt and wvu play in basketball?..... [/ QUOTE ] Not any more...
  16. VT has a bunch of young kids, mostly SO. and FR. and only one senior on the team. When you have that type of mix, they play mostly on emotion and right now the emotion level is running pretty high. I hope that level skyrockets on Thursday night...

On average, hand timing is .15 to .20 off of electronic times...meaning if you are hand timed at 4.5, you are actually closer to 4.65 - 4.7. Too many variables (HUMAN ERROR) in hand timing.
  18. Another teams holds serve on its home court...
  19. Just holding serve...I'm telling you, the first team to win at Graham, Tazewell, Grundy, or Carroll Co. will win the district. Don't be suprised if the SWD looks like this at the end of the season.... Carroll Co. 5-3 Graham 5-3 Grundy 5-3 Tazewell 5-3 Richlands 0-8
  20. I don't go to high school basketball games...I'd rather sit at home and watch the car rust. The games are rarely determined by the players...the refs decide who will win and by how much...
  21. Talk all you want...it won't matter...the game is at T-town...you'll still only be keeping pace if you beat Graham down there...
