  1. Graham seems to be getting the "Rodney Dangerfield" from this board...NO RESPECT! I think that is great because some of you may get a big shock in a few weeks...
  2. I'm pretty sure Graham is supposed to have Lord Botetourt and Brookville at LB on Friday, August 13th and then host a "Foundation Game" vs. Rockbridge Co. at Mitchell Stadium on Aug. 21.
  3. Run up the middle, run left, run right, punt...is that the correct order?
  4. Why is that disturbing? Anyone can call the same three or four plays over and over and over...
  5. I'll have mine posted on the website on August 1st...
  6. That article is not correct...the guy writing it obviously didn't have a clue. True, #2 in the program was AB, HOWEVER, AB DID NOT PLAY IN THE GAME. He was replaced by Robert Barcliff from George Wythe who wore #2 in the game.
  7. Yes, this is correct due to losing the games with LP and FC. They will play each other twice and the second game will be the district game.
  8. Yes, they were invited into the Conference this year...their schedule will reflect the change beginning next season. They won't have any open dates then...
  9. Sandman... As long as Lee is AA, there will never be a "re-united" Southwest District...
  10. This is all I've been able to find on Graham... Graham High School open in 1913...not sure of the year they started playing football, however, that is a 90 year existence. I have complete records for 1952, 1953, 1959, 1961, and 1973-2003, a total of 35 seasons. Graham's overall record for those 35 seasons is 251-132-4, .654 winning percentage. I will keep "digging" to see if I can find the results from the "missing seasons".
  11. That idea was passed on to Bluefield since both had a common open date. Bluefield passed on the idea. They have since picked up Martinsburg to fill their schedule.
  12. I know for a fact Graham contacted Iaeger a while back and Iaeger told them they already had a game on that date. Don't know if that is true and the WVSSAC schedule doesn't reflect it or if Iaeger may be ducking a trip to the woodshed...
  13. From the VHSL website... 8/27 at Bluefield 9/3 Blacksburg 9/10 at Marion 9/17 Virginia High 9/24 Richlands 10/1 at Abingdon 10/8 Grundy 10/15 Tazewell 11/5 at Carroll Co. Two weeks off between Tazewell and Carroll Co. and another week off after Carroll Co. before playoffs...lots of "down time" late in the season.
  14. Currently in an arguement with a friend and need some more opinions...
  15. Grow up Jimmy! That is ONE person's opinion and his opinion isn't worth the cyberspace it is using up! That guy is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOT...just like the one from Grundy who got on here the other day. You know, I know, and everyone else that posts on this board knows that Grundy will be a very good team next season. Trust me, NO ONE in Bluefield, VA thinks that they will be a pushover...the guy that made those comments lives in NC and only saw Graham play maybe twice last season (even though he continually makes it sound as if he attended every game).
  16. Posted by my buddy DetCord (those are his comments not mine)... Pre-Season Div 3 Poll Out... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brian Halusk of the UVAInsider released his pre-seasn Div 3 poll and it show the same shortfalls as his Div 4 poll did...little knowledge of team composition and competition. The following are my commnets on his picks: Division 3 ===================== 1. Gretna (14-0) Super juniors rarely, if ever, meet or exceed their junior performance in their senior years. The supporting cast is not as strong but Vic Hall will still lead Gretna into the playoffs. Beyond that? Too early to tell. 2. Graham (10-3) Without Bradshaw, this may be a reach. A lot of young talent coming up through the G-Men ranks but second in the state? 3. Grundy (8-4) Why not? If thy can keep last year's momentum going and fill a few holes, this may be possible. Remember the phrase "Marcum on a Mission." 4. Fort Defiance (8-4) I also consistently underestimate Fort and they consistently surprise me. But this year may be different, they just lose way too much. Even Dale Spitzer's coaching magic is unlikley to get them this high. 5. Handley (9-2) I really like the Judges but, to coin a phrase, no way Jose! Absent Josh Verts, Mike Lee and Patrick Wingfield, the new guys have a way to go. A winning season still possible but this high? Nope. 6. York (10-2) Another school (like the next two) that will have to prove itself without their "bread and butter" players from last year. Can they reload the talent of Charles Brown-Rich and beef up the lines? 7. Monticello (11-3) Without the Joe Sanford aerial circus to carry them, I'm guessing the Mustangs go back into a ground-hugging offense in a district that is tough on the run. They'll bang heads with Western Albemarle (who lose Bryan Lescanec and Co.) for the district but neither likely have enough left to go beyond that. 8. Poquoson (10-3) It's going to be hard to imagine a Poquoson team without Josh Zidenbug. Without his numbers, this may be a very different team. Ryan Warner? 9. Nandua (10-1) Surprises almost never happen two years in a row. We'll see. 10. Rockbridge County (6-4) Maybe. Great backield with Rosser, Ware and Prasnicki but the lines lose Kirchner, Carter and the elder Clark brother (Adam). Aaron Clark (UVa commit) returns at DE and one of the districts best. Broadway may overtake them (as he mentions altough not really knowing why). They also have a strong backfield but need to solve a QB and o-line problem going into the season. John Jacobs still the heart of this team and will be a D-1 pickup out of the Valley District.
  17. I think they only lose two linemen and one receiver (the one that caught everything thrown near him against Graham) on offense. On D, they only four players (2 DLs, 1 LB, and 1 DB...one of the DLs, the LB, and the DB are the same three guys they lose off the O). They will return Hall, Rico Reynolds (RB), Horace Hubbard (FB/TE/LB), the big-ass OT/DL Baines...those are the ones I remember by name that made a BIG impact last season. But anyway, they will return at least 7 or 8 starters on both sides of the ball plus lots of younger kids that played quite a bit in mop-up duty. Gretna will be for real again next season. I wouldn't be suprised to see them go 14-0 and back to back.
  18. Jimmy... I'm not downing your brother in any way. I do think that he was a heck of a player last season and with the added weight/strength will be a beast this season. The numbers I listed were in the information I found. I have nothing to do with whether or not the 5.4 forty time was to be scratched or not. If he ran 5.0 at both Atl. and Cin., then that is great...but the info I saw did not reflect that. I hope he improves on the 5.0 then maybe he will really start to get some attention. BTW, my info didn't come from Rivals, it came from another "independent" source. It didn't give any other info about releses, stances, or being out of shape, it only gave numbers. As for "pipe dreams"...you are nuts if you think ANYBODY in Division 3 will be able to beat Gretna this season. That is not a knock against Grundy, Graham, or any other team...that's the truth.
  19. Congrats to Brenton! He is a heck of a player and was a very important part of Bluefield's run last season. Good luck to him at WVW!
  20. Greenbrier East HS (Lewisburg, WV) needs Head Football Coach for the 2004 season. The job will only be posted by the Greenbrier County Board of Education from Thursday, June 10 to Wednesday, June 16. The Greenbrier County Schools Employment Hotline may be reached at 304.647.6489. For more information, please contact principal Jeff Bryant at 304.647.6464, Ext. 20, or athletic director Casey Crane at 304.647.6464, Ext. 35, or at 304.667.7712. (6/3/04)
  21. I had high hopes of the VHSL going to four classes on the next R&R schedule after the R&R committee voted for the change. However, in recent days, one of the AAA regions voted against the latest redistricting changes that would affect their region. This in my opinion will be the first "battle" against any sort of realignment or restructuring of the current VHSL system. Check out the article...I think most of their "exuses" are a crock-a-poo but that's just my opinion... Loud-oun and Clear: Region Rejects Redistricting Plan By Greg Wyshynski June 4, 2004 The Virginia High School League [VHSL] redistricted a pair of Loudoun County high schools into the Northern Region last month for the 2005-06 school year. Maybe it should have asked the region for permission first. Expressing frustration and disappointment with the VHSL's Redistricting and Reclassification Committee, the Northern Region Council [NRC] of principals and directors of student activities strongly rejected the relocation of Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge to the region in Fall 2005. "It's not in our best interest to add two schools to this region at this time," said Dale Rumberger, chairman of the NRC and the new principal at the South County high school opening next year. He lamented the fact that the committee recommended the plan without any analysis or serious input from the Northern Region. "I have difficulty with an R&R recommendation to an entire region that didn't come through that region first. Philosophically, that's not a way we've ever done it before." At its meeting Wednesday at Marshall High School, the NRC voted 23-0 — with Herndon abstaining and four schools absent — to reject the recommended alignment of Loudoun Valley into the Concorde District and Stone Bridge into the Liberty District. The plan, which was approved by the VHSL R&R committee last month, must still be voted on by the VHSL Executive Committee this fall. The region's motion to reject the plan is a symbolic gesture that clearly states its opposition to the addition of Loudoun schools to the region; the final decision, however, rests with the Executive Committee. The NRC vote opens the door for months of debate and alternatives to the current plan, which was enacted when new ADM student population numbers pushed Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge out of AA and into AAA classification — the largest class in the state. STONE BRIDGE PRINCIPAL Jim Person, one of three Loudoun County administrators who attended the meeting, said he's been stunned by the rapid growth of his and other county schools. "I never dreamed things would bust loose the way they have. But that's the reality of life for us," he said. Upon learning his school would be moved up to AAA classification, Person's first notion was to try and stay in the Dulles District — home to local rivals Park View, Broad Run and Potomac Falls. But he also began to explore other options, including moving with other Loudoun schools to the AAA Northwest Region. While his petition was rebuked at first, the region then made a proposal. "I learned that the Northwest Region had met, and they decided to place Stone Bridge in the Cardinal District," said Person. The Cardinal contains schools like Hylton, Gar-Field and Woodbridge. "Being in Ashburn, that is a hike," he said. His next move was to contact the VHSL. He sent a letter to executive director Ken Tilley. "My first priority, I said up front, would be to stay AA, stay in the Dulles District. Status quo," said Person. "I specifically said my second option would be to go to the Northern Region, preferably Liberty District." A third option, he said, would be to relocate to the Cedar Run District in the Northwest Region, home to Manassas area schools like Osbourn and Stonewall Jackson. On May 13, the VHSL R&R committee met and approved a plan that kept the Northern Region's recent redistricting plan — Robinson and Fairfax to the Concorde, Jefferson to the Liberty, Lee to the Patriot District — while adding Loudoun Valley to the Concorde and Stone Bridge to the Liberty. The region's newest school in Lorton — the 31st when the Loudoun schools are counted — would enter as either a Patriot District or National District program. Rod Manuel, principal at Annandale and the region's R&R committee representative, said the Northern Region was kept in the dark regarding the Loudoun schools' plan. "There seems to have been some communication going on between the VHSL and the Loudoun County school system. I felt like the odd man out — I hadn't seen any documentation prior to that. I sort of went into that meeting blindly," he said. Person apologized at the NRC meeting for not communicating with the region leading up to the proposal vote on May 13. Both he and Tilley, who also attended the NRC meeting, said the short time between the release of the new ADM numbers and the R&R committee meeting in Charlottesville last month made it difficult to make the Northern Region aware of the plan. Rumberger said the committee was out of line to push the plan through without it coming under Northern Region consideration. "I'm angry. I'm angry because this is a major issue for this region, and we had 10 days [before a vote]," he said THE RELOCATION of the Loudoun schools affects the Northern Region on several fronts. First is the transportation issue. Under the recently approved redistricting plan by the Northern Region, Rumberger said Fairfax County Public Schools transportation officials told him that geographic obstacles had been finally cleared for local schools. If Loudoun schools were brought in, "all bets are off," he said. Another issue is the fact that Loudoun schools don't play every Northern Region sport. There is no field-hockey in Loudoun. There aren't JV lacrosse teams yet either. Mostly, however, the relocation of the two schools would demolish the philosophy the Northern Region had established with its own recent redistricting — that of aligning schools by size and geography. Loudoun Valley is a Div. 5 school, and would be by far the smallest in the Concorde. Stone Bridge would be the second-smallest school in the Liberty District. NRC members said a simple solution to this realignment headache would be for the Loudoun Schools to relocate to the Northwest Region. Another solution could be for schools close to AAA status in Region II to simply move up a classification. For example, schools like Warren County (1,516 students in the new ADM numbers), Liberty (1,533), Broad Run (1,492) and Potomac Falls (1,408) could all be AAA schools if they chose to, but are currently slotted in AA. "Those schools have selected not to play up. When you're one student different between AAA and AA, and you select to play AA, I don't know what that message is," said Rumberger. "We have schools here in our Northern Region who select to play AAA every single year." Marshall (1,257), Stuart (1,469), South Lakes (1,588) and Falls Church (1,536) are all close to the unofficial cut-off for AAA status, which is 1,500 students. Loudoun Valley is projected to have 1,678 students, while Stone Bridge will have 1,586. "We've had prior conversations with all the Loudoun Schools about maybe if some of us have to go AAA, maybe we have to shift our mindsets. Maybe all of us go there," said Person, who added that he didn't expect Loudoun schools to make the leap to AAA status. "I respect the fact that people get a level of comfort with where they are, and are looking out for their kids." Oakton Principal Charlie Ostlund said some of the decisions regarding school classification are "obvious idiocy" on the part of the VHSL. He said nothing short of a major overhaul of the classification system could remedy situations like the current Loudoun County controversy. "We can't put a band-aid on a wound that needs major work. It's really tied up in the notion of three classifications. Maybe the answer is four, maybe the answer is seven," he said. WITH THE REGION voting to reject the R&R plan, it's now up to the VHSL Executive Committee to make the ultimate decision this fall. Tilley said that unless the committee makes an exception, the Northern Region will be powerless to redistrict again for 05-06 if the VHSL decides to adopt the R&R plan. The Northern Region could decide this summer to come to the VHSL with an alternative plan that includes the Loudoun Schools. One option, according to Manuel, would have Valley and Stone Bridge moving to the Liberty District, and Langley shifting to the Concorde. A wild card in this entire redistricting debate is Fairfax, which Rumberger said could still contest its relocation from the Liberty to the Concorde by petitioning the state. Any amendment to the R&R plan must be submitted by August 13.
  22. OK, first off, Grundy must make the playoffs (very likely) and win the Region (good chance) first. Then they will have to contend with the Region III Champion...likely to be the Vic Hall Flying Circus from Gretna (oh yeh, he was only a junior last season and they return LOTS from last year's 14-0 State Championship team that demolished just about everyone in their path). I really think Grundy winning State is a pipe dream...but having said that, I also believe they will be one of the best teams in Southwest Virginia. Second, anybody who knows anything about football in Southwest Virginia knows Aaron Marcum is a heck of a football player. And with his added weight/strength and increased speed, he will be that much better. HOWEVER, I beg to differ that he is the "top college prospect in Va". Virginia is LOADED with talent in next year's senior class...lots of guys being recruited by the NATIONAL POWERS of college football. Check out this list of Virginia's Top 250 recruits for next season. This comes from a fairly good recruiting source (however, as with any recruiting source, it is all judgemental based on that person's opinion). He has Aaron listed in his top 250 but nowhere near the top...its still good to see "local" guys get some publicity though. ___________________________________________________________ "The talent in Virginia is incredibly deep with several players being recruited nationally. This should be a very fun recruiting year to watch. Here is my second “official” list for the season. Known D-1 offers are listed where applicable. "I was updating the rising juniors in the state and put together a very early list of prospects for the 2005-2006 class. Looks like another strong year in Virginia with an abundance of RBs, WRs, and LBs. QBs don't look very strong right now, but many QBs don't develop until their junior year. These rankings obviously don't have a lot of basis this early and will surely change dramatically, but here are my top 50 juniors based on some very early information: 1. 23. Yep BR, I think you are correct. I remember reading in one of the newpapers back in the fall how Weir had gone from a horrible record the previous two seasons to making the playoffs. 2-8 sounds right for the 2001 season and the 2002 season was either 4-6 or 5-5 (those were the numbers that had stuck in my mind).
  24. Not certain about this but I think they were 5-5 (4-6 or 6-4 maybe) that season.
