1. Looks good to me. Although, I think it would have been nice to have Grayson and Fort Chiswell go to the TRD and MED take in Auburn and East Mont. I know that the MED would weaken for all intents and purposes, however, it would put all schools in my area of VA on a even playing field as far as size of the schools in concerned. As far as the AA changes in the Roanoke Valley, I don't see where it would be a major problem. The old NRV district was in Region 4 throughout its existance. I'm sure we all remember the '94 Richlands/Blacksburg regional game. Narrows and Giles had many playoff games with the likes of Gate City, Grundy, and Graham to name a few throughout the years. Also, maybe then the southwest part of VA would start getting proper coverage and respect from the Roanoke Media. OK, maybe that won't happen (I'm not that stupid). But hey, stranger things have happened.

M.E.D.

Unlike in football, there are some informative posts concerning this district on VA Preps. Personally, I think Narrows is the front runner with most of their key players coming back and with their depth. But Fort and Grayson always seem to hang around. Galax is about as young as they've ever been, but Brown is one heck of coach and I've seen him take teams like he's got now and have them being tourney contenders by the end of the season. It looks like it's wide open as usual in the MED.
3. But he's a moderator. Moderators shouldn't put down anyone. His sole purpose is to police to the board so to speak. And when you put down a team then you're putting down the kids. It's one thing to say you predict them to lose. To trash them is another entirely. A little practicing what fellow moderators preach would go a long way.
4. He didn't break all of them. If I am thinking correctly, OJ Thomason from William Byrd owns the career record for rushing yards. If he no longer owns it then I definately know he was the next one to own it after Terry Kirby.
5. The only game I saw of Giles in person was the Narrows/Giles game in Pearisburg. From what I've seen of them, the D-line is strong but slow off the ball. The LB's and secondary is where the speed comes into play for them. They run a 5-3 most of the time and their philosophy is to not get beat on the deep ball and let the front 8 control the trenches. Narrows was able to run on them till it got too late in the game to run and still try to play catch up. Last I saw of Chilhowie was at Fort Chiswell last season. If Chilhowie runs the same offense as then, I don't see it working because of the speed of their D behind their d-line. Power football down their throats or spread the field with more speed than they can handle (William Campbell) is about the only way you'll keep up with them because I don't see Chilhowie stopping the single wing.
6. Just thought I would wish the Bearcats good luck from a alum class of '99. Congrats on the district title. It's not your fault you are in the district you are in. Play with the cards you're dealt and do what you can. Other random VHS involved things from this and other threads: 1) As far as the VHS dropping down thing goes: Last I heard anything from anyone credible (athletic director at Tazewell playoff game last year), they were going to wait it out till the VHSL realignment comes around again and try to go to the Hogo if enrollment numbers put them in single A. Basically, same thing as last time around. It's either the Hogo or the Highlands for VA High. It's been almost a full year since I was told that so who knows if anything has changed since then. 2) VA High not getting respect is to be expected. From being a Narrows fan also, I'm used to hearing the same thing from since the time I've been a football fan. But like I mentioned earlier. It's not the kids fault that their administration thinks Hogo or bust. However, to see that an administrator to this board is the first to trash them in this thread (and many others) still bugs me. The same one that sends out messages about keeping the board clean, cival , sportsmanshiplike is the first one to let that go out the window when it comes to VA High. Am I the only one that sees a problem here? No one that plays for any team in this area should have to look on a message board, especially this one, and see one of the users that runs the board talk down about them or their team. However, I'm just another poster, what the hell do I know? 3) And great point made by someone else within this thread somewhere. VA High, with the district title or not would have gotten a playoff birth because of the power points. Once again, playin with the cards your dealt. Good luck Green Wave, Bearcats and all others in the 2 VA's in the playoffs. Let's all enjoy a weekend of do or die football.
7. I know Bland beat Grayson in '94. Their only lose that year in the regualar season in the district was Fort Chiswell.
8. You people kill me. He was mentioned. Page 3. By Lance, of all people. Go figure.
9. How about saying Region D or 4 minus the Piedmont? LOL
10. haha... yeah and I liked it. Everything I have heard about Grayson leading up to this game was dead on. I think Grayson had maybe 15 yards of O in the first half at the most. Complete domination by the Wave. This week missed the winner's final score by 1 and last week missed the winner's final score by 2 (Giles WC game on VaPreps).
11. Narrows losing to Grayson. Shouldn't happen but with the game at Grayson very well could. I've heard from people that have seen Grayson play and say that was the worst Grayson team in years. I'm going with Narrows 26-19.
12. I going with Craig. I've seen Bland's D (granted it was last year) and they aren't gonna stop Hancock. Craig gets at least 250 on the ground and wins 34-12. Just my opinion. Bland beat Twin Valley (a team that lost to GBC!) by only 7. They're problems with that.
13. All I can say is good call guy. LOL Most important stat though was he didn't score. The last 2 years he has 290+ yards rushing on us but no TD's. No points from him and Craig struggles.
14. Here's the link to various recaps in the Roanoke Timesland area: Graham, Narrows, and various other recaps
15. It's called the single wing. James Monroe got it from Giles being their coach currently came from there. Although they do run a different set, or variation, of it. Northwood also runs it, but also, a different variation. And I can honestly say, if you wanna see how the single wing is supposed to look, go watch a Giles football game. Those guys run that same offense from the time they pick up a football. Fun stuff to watch when they're playing someone thats never seen it before. Just too bad it's Giles.
16. Good call my Narrows brethren. Why be picky?
17. Lost pretty much all starters from TRD basement team last season. Take from that what you want.
18. They did yesterday (the 19th) evening at Giles. Never heard anything on how it went though.
19. But 90% of those penalties were thrown on your defense for late hits and trash talking. Fact of the matter is, your first team O only got 6 points against Narrows' first team D all night and those didn't come off any kind of drive. It came off a 60+ yard run first play from scrimmage in the 3rd quarter. To be honest, I wasn't impressed with Tazewell all that much. They looked like they have taken 10 steps back since the last time I saw them in person against VA High. I will give them this, they are a pyshical team but if half the people on defense don't grow up and knock off the cheap shots, they're only gonna be hurting theirself's in the long run. In the end, the offense from Tazewell has a long way to go if they are to compete in the SWD if the first team D from Narrows can hold you in check.
20. Driving around Narrows tonight and the lights were on at Ragsdale and it looked like the coaches were painting the lines for tomorrow night. It's about time we were allowed back in there. It seems like forever and a day ago since we all were last there. Can't wait. We'll see y'all there.
21. The Roanoke Times has theirs coming out on the 25th.
22. If you could, gold jersey, green letters, number 14, name - Wave
23. [ QUOTE ] No no one scored. bland was bigger but not better at all. They wasnt as good as theyve been b4 [/ QUOTE ] Wasn't as good as before? Oh man. They must have an extremely long way to go. OUCH!
24. Auburn, Bland Co., East Mont, Narrows, Pocahontas, and Radford is the same district? Sounds about as good as the MED is now. I hope it doesn't pass. Although Giles going to Cave Spring for a district game sounds like it's got potential.
