  1. Just looked at the Sandy Creek roster. Two 6'4s, a 6'5, two 6'7s and a 6'8. What a terrible problem for a public school to have!
  2. Nice win for the Dogs in a difficult environment, especially playing without one starter.
  3. Other than a scrimmage, I don't think Martinsville has played Chatham in a few years now. Chatham did defeat Dan River though. I'm guessing that you meant to say that Halifax "sunseated" Mavahi. Obviously this is just my opinion, but this year's Halifax squad would unseat pretty much any 2A team they played. And that's not a put down to any team out there or a statement to try and prop up the Bulldogs. Halifax has 1000 more students than 2A schools --- and in a year where they're really good, they should beat any 2A school. It did seem to thrill the 5A Comets to take down the defending 2A champs, though, as they were heard chanting "F the Bulldogs" while leaving the floor and heading into the visitor's locker room.
  4. radford lost in double OT to salem, but Morton-Robertson was still out under the concussion protocol.
  5. a 9th grade team is a great idea. especially for basketball-minded schools. martinsville had a 9th grade team for many years, i played on it way back when myself. i guess it's been a thing of the past for close to 20 years now though. there's certainly enough interest to warrant a team, but financial constraints have to be the hindrance. gw danville, franklin co, ph roanoke, halifax, fleming all have a team, so there are schools within decent distance that they could play. i wonder if GC has to travel near and far for games? although it would probably be just as easy for them to play 1A school's JV teams (maybe even some 2As) and compete just fine.
  6. yea...that's pretty much what I said when I referenced the big 3.
  7. Did I read it right that the JV Devils lost 55-22? If so, it's a good thing that none of the big 3 are seniors.
  8. Wow, you were quick. I posted on the other thread. Morton-Robertson left the game early concussed. Nice to see the newcomer find his place pretty early with 16 points.
  9. Dogs win by 19. Morton-Robertson suffered a concussion going in for a layup within the first 2 minutes and didn't return. Aaron Martin and newcomer TJ Pettway led the Dogs with 16 apiece.
  10. big game in Martinsville tonight as the defending 1a champion Bobcats pay a visit to the Doghouse and the two-time defending 2a champion Bulldogs. Radford suffered their only defeat here a season ago in a 20 point blowout. They are already 2-0 I believe along with 1 or 2 exhibition games. the Dogs have only had a couple of practices with the entire squad present. should make for a tough game for the Dogs, but I'm sure the guys are chomping at the bit to get started.
  11. Congats to Graham. Heckuva effort from my Dogs. They battled, but just ran out of gas. We've come a long way from 1-9 in 2014. Great job Coach Martin and staff! Now let's go see about a 3-peat on the hardwood!
  12. Before anyone gets too up in arms, I'm just poking a little fun. There's a pretty good article in the Martinsville paper today about the game. Coach Martin certainly has a ton of respect for the G-Men.
  13. Fair enough. I still trust the rosters on those in house sites more than I do maxpreps!!
  14. Yea, I'm not claiming that roster to be the gospel either, but one quick look at Galax's calendar shows that there is theater practice at 5 o'clock today. That's clear evidence that the site is maintained in house. And kudos to Galax for using that site. I bet parents would love that site if it's used properly. Franklin County is the best I've seen. They put every practice and every detail on theirs. And for the record, I don't have an issue with admitting that the G-Men have to be the favorite going into this one. 10-1 and home field will be tough to overcome.
  15. the galax roster on mountainempiredistrictva.org would have most likely been posted in house. in other words, the staff or the AD most likely put that roster there. take a look there for yourself and see what you think. I know for a fact that the Martinsville AD adds the team rosters and has the scores listed on piedmontdistrictva.org. that's why the rosters are listed for some teams and not for others. some schools use that site very well, other schools not so much. for example, graham doesn't have their roster listed there. the "insert district name here" va.org websites are a great tool to use for rosters, scores and schedules. it would be great to see all of the schools use them more.
  16. Galax's actual team roster on the MED website, which i trust much more than maxpreps, says the maroon tide have exactly 3 kids north of 200lbs on the whole team. Martinsville has 15. I'm not implying that weight makes you any better of a ball player, but that tells me that galax's roster isn't really anything like Martinsville's.
  17. the maxpreps roster is somewhat incomplete. several guys have just height and no weight listed and i noticed that one starter on the OL doesn't have height or weight listed. He and his brother are pretty much the 2 biggest guys on the team. the front 5 are roughly - 6'3 240, 6'1 290, 5'8 275, 6'2 305, 6'1 240. Then the 6'3 230 TE. And i guess the first OL mixed into the rotation is one of the starters' younger brother who is 6'3 330ish. good size, but not great depth. that would be mhs's biggest weakness, but that's true for most schools with 600 or fewer students.
  18. i thought maybe we'd get the discussion back on the actual game, but if you'd rather not then that's cool too.
  19. MHS's OL averages 6'1, 275...pretty good size considering that the center is like 5'8. The starting TE is 6'3 230.
  20. obviously I'm asking you to speculate here, but would you estimate that graham has as much overall team speed as someone like maybe magna vista or gw-danville? in other words, team speed all over the field, or just 3 or 4 real burners and just kind of normal everywhere else?
  21. ha....like mile high stadium! maybe the boosters will buy a hyperbaric chamber for practice this week??
  22. we're already knee deep in it. scrimmage again tomorrow at McMichael....JVs too. but as for football, i've been hearing that the GMen are fast? and I heard over on preps that there's higher elevation in bluefield, too.
