BBHooops, does Princeton have a shot? GMan eluded to their wingish O and I took a look at em this morning. Man, is that awesome and fun to watch. Call me a Homer obviously for anything resembling a wing offense. I still believe Princeton will move it, but I don't see Princeton stopping them. I agree with GMan and think it's the end of the road for Princeton next weekend.
And Martinsburg.....well....who's is going to be the sacrificial lamb because they ain't losing up there. Lots of firepower and offenses up in WV, but......Martinsburg has the defense to go with the offense which singles them out in my opinion.
Bridgeport only passed the ball twice, the first attempt was incomplete and the second was a touchdown inside the red zone. Bridgeport had three players with over a hundred yards rushing.
They didn't catch a break getting Bridgeport. They are good, don't let the #8 seeding fool you. They only lost one game, to Morgantown, and they run a single wing type offense and pound it down your throat all night long. I watched them kick the poop out of Cabell Midland, that game was only in doubt in the 1st Q. They came out and ran 8.5 minutes off the clock driving 68 yards to start the 2nd half for a TD and the game was over at that point, CM knew they couldn't stop them and were beat mentally at that point. I think Princeton's run ends next week at Anne P Hunnicut...
My thoughts exactly...was very impressed on how well Bridgeport ran that single wing. It was like watching a well oiled machine.
Will know tomorrow afternoon...away team gets to pick day and time. I'm assuming since Parkersburg chose to play this past Friday night, that they would do the same. Alot of teams tend to want to keep the same routine if possible.
Graham-Lee had a female on the crew last night. Y’all should have seen her trying to keep up with Clements down the sideline. Gal gave it a valiant effort! Not sure any of the males could have kept up with him any better though. Best crew I saw all season was Pulaski Graham game crew.
Probably had to tell her the game was on Thursday so she would show up on time Friday...a sexist would say.
It's at Summers County HS in Hinton WV. Moved because of turf issues.
Also could be because the West Virginia State Fair will be taking place in Fairla, West Virginia where Greenbrier East High School is located. In fact,if I remember correctly, the parking space used for football games is also used for the fair.
I remember back in 1996 I believe, when Bluefield was ranked #1 in AA and Dupont was ranked either #1 or #2 in AAA in which that team consisted of future NBA player Jason "white chocolate "Williams and future NFL hall of famer Randy Moss. Bluefield completely destroyed them, beating them by 27 points.
Bluefield Beaver fans. Isn't Lilly (the Independence Coach) a Bluefield Beaver guy? Did he not play at Bluefield for Chmara? Thanks in advance.
Huntington High vs Parkersburg South for the WV AAA state title is today at 1200. Kind of weird to think that there is no Martinsburg in the big show this year. That Parkersburg South team is the same team Princeton nearly beat.
Yep. Several weeks ago I did say that. I also backed off of that in this weeks thread. I’ve only seen Bluefield once, and that was the worst Bluefield team I’ve ever seen that I can remember. I don’t know what y’all did to turn it around, but it’s damned impressive.
Fair enough...at that point and time of the season it was probably the general consensus of Bluefield fans.
Any that was disciplined for actions in any previous game is now eligible to play. As far as I know there were no problems in the Pikeview game.
I was at the Pikeview game last night. Their were no issues, in fact , players from both teams were helping each other up and tapping there hands on each other's helmets on several occasions. There was one instance where a Pikeview receiver was attempting to catch a pass down the middle and a Bluefield defender leveled him. It wasn't a cheap shot, just a bang, bang play. While the Pikeview player was down on the ground the Bluefield player kneeled down beside him to check and see if he was alright.
Bluefield's problem is lack of depth. They played Princeton pretty evenly until about midway through the 3rd quarter, then Princeton just wore them down which resulted in the poor tackling.
I think the QB for Bluefield is the kid that hit 2 half court or 3/4ths court shots at the buzzer in Basketball this past season. You don't have to know one lick about this kid's talent at QB to know the following......if it's close in the end and the ball is in his hands, bad things can happen for the opponent. Kid's a winner and winner's don't lose easily and they often don't lose closely. So, if Graham is going to win, they may want to win it surely and not be in a situation up 5 points with Bluefield having the football at midfield with 1 minute left, because their QB wreaks of one word.....WINNER. (Again, this is if we are talking about the same kid that hit the shots in hoops and who is very, very clutch).
Rapidbeaver, Bluefield could use 1 more guy with some length inside, mainly for defense. The kid from Poca who is not all that tall, but physical (Marshall linebacker commit) got a few "muscle baskets" inside where he just out muscled the Bluefield defender. If Bluefield had just a touch more length, those shots would have been changed. Buster Large is a fantastic coach and just has the Beavers in the mix every year. On the years when the Beavers win state titles, they usually have some length inside that changes shots for the opponents. The Beavers are almost playing with 5 guards, or more like 4 guards and a small forward and it's tough to win it all like that. With today's "guard age," it's very possible to win the whole thing with 4 guards and a true center or 6'6 big man that avoids fall trouble. Only my opinion. Bluefield puts so much pressure on the ball against opponents Before the opponents have a chance to get it inside, and this year, not a ton of height at the WV AA level. Those great Champanville teams a few years ago just had absolute mismatches because height like that for an AA team is just rare. Because most of the AA teams in WV, at least right now, don't seem to have a lot of height, the Beavers can certainly be in the mix, not just because other teams don't have a ton of height, but Bluefield is just dam* good, but I think they just need 1 guy inside, a 6'6 type player that can given you 10 points offensively, but completely ruin offensive possessions for the opponents inside game.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I believe the Hairston kid will grow at least a couple more inches before he leaves Bluefield. That will make him at least 6'6. That might help. You are correct about not having alot of height coming out of a small school like Bluefield. When I graduated from Beaver, I was 6'8" and left ETSU 6'10". SO The potential for the Hairston kid to grow 2-4 more inches is not out of the realm of possibility, being that he is just 15-16 years old.
Final- Poca 65 :Bluefield 48. Beavers came to play for sure and battled and battled, but just came up short. Still, a pretty solid show by the Bluefield Beavers of 2021-22.
Bluefield is a young team...they lose the Flack kid and chance Johnson. The Gore kid will probably replace Flack next year. Looney, Fuller are juniors and R J Hairston is just a sophomore. The future is bright for this team.
