  1. Bill Christian is a great choice for the boys job. Great hire IMO. Long time Boys JV coach at Grundy and had MANY successful seasons, including a 20-0 team.
  2. Pikeville College has signed 2 local SWVA players. Derek Hess of Grundy and Shane Presley of Council will both be continuing their careers at Pikeville College on the schools JV team. Below are links to players already added to this years recruiting class. Rickey Young-Transfer from WVU Tech http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/05/pikeville-college-adds-transfer-rickey.html Quincy Hankins Cole- Transfer from University of Nebraska Yan Maukoury-Transfer from Houston/Northern KY University http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/05/pikeville-college-lands-pair-of.html Vance Cooksey-Transfer from Youngstown St. University http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/05/pikeville-college-signs-vance-cooksey.html Kyle Cannon-Transfer from Oklahoma University Landon Slone- Transfer from University of Kentucky http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/01/ex-cat-landon-slone-signs-with.html Josh Whitaker- Hazard High School http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/04/hazards-josh-whitaker-signs-with.html Tyler Newsome- Shelby Valley High School http://www.allkyhoops.com/2010/04/hazards-josh-whitaker-signs-with.html
  3. KCU has an outstanding Women's team. They have dominated the NCCAA over the years. Great program.
  4. Will be a pretty good job for the area the next couple of years....
  5. Pikeville College Men's Basketball has an individual camp, a Jr. High team camp, a JV team camp, and a Varsity team camp.
  6. Next year is def the year for Grundy to make a run. Glad to see them making progress this season as well....
  7. It takes a special kind of kid to play for Coach Bennett. He makes you walk a pretty straight line, something that most ACC caliber athletes arent used to doing or arent willing to do. Spurlock leaving is another hit.
  8. Seems somebody brings this up at some point every season....
  9. You just arent using common sense now. Josh Smith is a GREAT player. No doubt. But when matched up against a 6'6 or 6'7 post with SKILLS, he faces many more challenges than a dominant guard would. Josh Smith needs the ball in the post. Double the post or deny the entry and how much harder does that make it? A dominant guard is going to have the ball in his hands regardless. He is going to be in an easier position to make plays. Josh Smith makes his presence felt from 13 ft and Forrest Stuart makes his presence felt from the time Appy throws the ball in bounds. Thats why I feel like he makes the bigger impact.
  10. Josh Smith is a 6'1 post player. Thats why he has trouble being a one man team. Stuart has the ball in his hands whenever he wants it and can take over a game. D1 has a LOT to do with it because of the number of kids and the overall pool of kids to choose from. If you have a kid that is a STUD, you can ride him very very very far in the playoffs. The lower the class, the easier it is to rely on one player.
  11. One player can make a HUGE difference on a team. In Division 1, one player CAN pretty much make a team in some cases. Maybe not 100%, but pretty close in some cases.
  12. The reason Appy is in the Final Four isnt because of any of their seniors....Stuart may be the best guard in SWVA. If I remember correctly, he is a junior? Could be wrong on that tho.
  13. Im not sure but I know we are well above it. Im going to guess around 250 maybe?
  14. Grundy wouldnt have played Hurley or Appy in the Region because Grundy will be Div. 2 in the regional tournament. We would have had to have beaten either Lebanon or Honaker. Grundy would have a better chance of winning the region in A. No doubt. There is a huge difference between going through Lebanon and Honaker to get to State and going through Cave Spring and Martinsville. However, IDK if this years team would have been the one to make it. I do like Grundy's chances in A ball the next 2 years. It also boils down to the guys dedication during the offseason. I know most of them play other sports as well, but you cant expect to not work on your game from now until next season and expect different results. The best definition of Insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Gotta put the time in during the Spring, Summer, and even Fall. Something else about Grundy Basketball that people dont think about is the amount of athletes that cant play because they are in wrestling season, and vice versa. Over the years there have been ALOT of kids that could have helped out both programs significantly but cant because the sports are during the same season. While most schools in the area have their premier athletes playing Football, Basketball, and Baseball, Grundy's play Football, split during the basketball/wrestling season, then play baseball. That will def be an advantage for the other A schools Grundy will face in basketball because most of them wont have wrestling programs period, meaning they will have the entire pool of talent to pull from. Not an excuse, just a situation that a lot of A schools dont have to think about....
  15. dmspartan! Are you still involved in the MHS program?
  16. SWVA has ZERO post players capable of stopping Henderson. All teams that play then will have to use 1 or 2 extra defenders if he decides to stay on the block. None of these guys have ever played against a 6'11 D1 signee I would imagine.
  17. Marion nor anybody else in the district has any hope of being able to guard Henderson in the post. Even if they choose to use him primarily in the high post he will be hard pressed to have a shot contested all night.
  18. With the division system they have in place, its rediculous how easy it is to make the playoffs. Its all about money. The only way gave you something to play for in the regular season and in the tournament. Now you basically know you are getting in regardless
  19. Cody's loss and a Christiansburg pin, Christiansburg wraps up the title...
  20. Grundy 70.5 and Christiansburg at 61.5. Grundy has 7 in semi's. C'burg has 5. I think they only go head to head in 1 match but I could be wrong.
  21. Christiansburg leads Grundy by 1, 29-28, going into the Quarterfinals. Grundy has 8 and Christiansburg has 7 in the Quarters. Grundy still has 1 alive in the consolation rounds while Christiansburg has 2
  22. Wasnt sure. Just throwing some names out. Thanks. Also add Chris Fleming of Haysi to that list as well.
  23. Derek Hess- Grundy Andrew Pate- Coeburn Josh Smith- Twin Valley Jordan Bryan- Graham Gavin Roe- Marion Lowe- Pound Vanover(SR?)- Clintwood McGee(SR?)- Richlands Dotson- Patrick Henry Cobb- Lebanon Not sure of the George Wythe kids (or even if you want to go that far) and not familiar with many of the kids in the Clinch Mtn or Cumberland Districts.
