  1. They ever thought of having a high school tourney as well? The only big high school tourney I can think of in the area is the one at Eastman.
  2. If they are going to move the Bluer Ridge into region IV, why not move the Piedmont back to Region III and the Valley back to Region II?
  3. All good things must come to an end. But you never know, maybe they can work something out with Region D and get the Southwest reformed as an A district.
  4. I believe he meant Jedi, a mystical order that knows the ways of the force lol.
  5. Where have ya been the past 2 weeks? Your weekly pics were better than Bristol's leonard! haha!!
  6. Well if I'm correct helper, in TN A, AA, and AAA are split into two classes each for football, but the A, AA, and AAA districts are all the same, so yeah, its kind of similar to Virginia's. They are not the same, but similar in that regard, and thats where the problems come in VA's system IMO. Teams play for the same district title but they play for a different regional title come playoff time. I thought the old 5A system in TN was a pretty good one, except for too many teams made the playoffs so there were a lot of 2-8 and 3-7 teams and so forth that made the playoffs. And I agree that having different systems in wrestling, track, and so forth is kind of dumb. There have been motions made in the TSSAA in past to get A-AA split up in the "non-revenue" sports in the past, but that never happened. I just think having a seperate class system for football makes sense in high school sports because enrollment is such a big factor unlike in most other sports.
  7. They should completely separate the football districts from the other sports. Tennessee used to do this up until this season when they adopted a system quite similar to Virginia's. They've had all sorts of problems this season including a couple 1-9 teams in the playoffs...
  8. go to the archives section of the site and read all the pages from past seasons. They are hysterical!
  9. How is the second seed determined from the CMD? Are they just gonna have so many more matches and the team with the next best record goes or will they have a district tournament?
  10. It's hard to beat a good team twice but I think Lebanon will pull it out!
  11. I guess all the past blowouts from Honaker and Lebanon over the past couple decades have still left bad memories at C-wood's program and they gotta get rid of those somehow!
  12. I remember back in 2000 they played Honaker in a really tough game the year Honaker went to the state finals. They played Giles in region finals that year didn't they?
  13. I don't think the semi-final game will be played at UVA-Wise unless for some reason the hosting team wants to play at Wise instead of at home.
  14. How did they decide the state champ in the old Group I(pre 1970) before Virginia started a playoff system in football? Was there a selection committee that decided what teams played each other? I was reading on the VHSL record book and some teams won state by beating a team and there are some state champions that didn't play an opponent.
  15. Each region is split into two halves by enrollment. The biggest half of the schools are in the upper division and the smallest half are in the lower. But there is a rule that says you can play down in a lower division if there is a school twice the size of yours in your region. Which is why Haysi, Castlewood, Clintwood, and Rye Cove were granted permission to play in Division 1 instead of division 2 because Lee High is in Region D and they have double the enrollment of those schools. Its not easier to get into the playoffs if you are in the bigger division, especially in Region D, Region C, and Region IV. 4-6 or 5-5 will normally get you to the playoffs in Division 1 in Region D and Region C, while in division 2 its normal to go 9-1 and miss the playoffs, ask Honaker, Haysi, George Wythe, and Glenvar about that.
  16. And strangely enough, its with the Honaker game around the corner yet again. They gonna postpone the game another few weeks so they can spend a day or two cleaning the locker rooms again?
  17. Here's what I could see happeneing in Region D: Graham Tazewell John Battle Virginia High Lebanon Honaker Twin Valley Hurley Council Haysi Grundy Clintwood Ervinton Castlewood Lee Gate City Powell Valley JJ Kelly JI Burton Appalachia Pound Rye Cove Twin Springs Thomas Walker Coeburn St Paul
  18. Yeah, at Food City we gotta go over all our big bills with a pencil eraser because counterfeiters put something on the bills that makes a detector pen show up as legit when you mark it. Where in the world have you been DCUNITED?? You still in Arlington? I was up in Reston a couple weeks ago, pretty nice place.
  19. I wouldn't call Mike Compton a blow-hard to his face for $100. That's one big mother.
  20. Did they change the rule about a 3-way tie in the district or something? Cause I remember back a few years ago when Lebanon, George Wythe, and Northwood all tied for first in the Hogo and no one got an automatic bid, they all had to vie for a wildcard spot. I think thats how it was, I don't think the points used to decide a district champ until maybe last season or the season before last.
  21. Or no, I think I remember what it was. Wouldn't Glenvar had made the playoffs if they had lost or forfeited their game against Covington because that would have given Covington the auto-bid from the Pioneer and would have left James River out and Glenvar in for a wild card spot. That's pretty messed up when at the end of the season you are like "well if we had just lost one more game we woulda made the playoffs."
  22. Wasn't there a team in Region C last season who would have made the playoffs if they had LOST one more game? Seems like it was if James River had lost to Covington, JR would have made the playoffs or something. Had something to do with who got the automatic bid from the Pioneer District.
  23. Just another reason why I wouldn't piss on about 99% of all cops if they were on fire.
  24. Thanks for posting that. I found out about a lot speed traps around Johnson City and Sullivan/Washington Counties.
  25. They'll have to do something when Richlands, Grundy, Graham, Tazewell, and Marion eventually drop. Group AA is small enough as it is with 30 something AA schools playing up in AAA and then you would have to move more teams out of Region III and/or Region II into Region IV to make things more equal number-wise and put Abingdon and Carroll Co. in the River Ridge. The VHSL is a mess as it is with the situation Group AA is in with the alignment of the regions and the low number of schools in Group AA, and then throw in the size discrepancy between Region B and the rest of Group A and this ridiculous divisional system we have in football and will soon have in basketball. Instead of just doing a complete over-haul of the whole state, every time a new problem creeps up they just cook up come half assed way to stick a band aid on the problem and move on.
