    Football...

I'll be behind these 53 on the 24th.!
  2. The root of this transfer issue is that everybody thinks they are a frig'n superstar, when in fact, very very few are. Bottom line, one will only experience all that team sports have to offer when they learn to forget themselves, put the good of the team first and accomplish something through teamwork. Stay where you are, transfer out, or play 3 sports at 3 schools in one year, I don't really care. Come on people, I'll get T shirts for Christmas that are going to last longer than the football careers of 99.99999% of our local players. I would encourage all our athletes to use high school football to prepare for a lifetime of decision making. If parents, coaches, society, and self worship are leading young people to write their commitments in chalk instead of chiseling them in stone, then this topic is a symptom, not the disease.
  3. But, the question is, did Pineville play at Mitchell with Warner, and did Pulaski play at Mitchell with Graham or Clark? Folks have mentioned some great players here, but I must bring yall back to my original question. Played in an NFL game and played at Mitchell Stadium in high school.
  4. In the spirit of Super Bowl Week, I got to thinking about how many future NFL players have played on the sod/turf of Mitchell Stadium. How many can we think of? They must have played in a regular season or playoff game in the NFL. No practice squaders. Right away I can think of the obvious ones in Bradshaw, Compton and Legursky. Is it possible that Gary Clark from Pulaski played here in a Bluefield matchup? Did Jason Witten make a trip here for a Graham game, or was that a road matchup?
  5. Bagged two does with the crossbow, and a doe with the rifle in Georgia. I've had alot of bucks in the scope, just not the right one. Heading out after the mythical, mysterious, Mud Fork Mauler this morning. GMan, I've planted plots for years if you have any questions you want to ask.
  6. The point about boycotting sponsors may be a little too extreme. There are some good, honest businesses advertising on the broadcast that don't deserve to be punished. What one may do is call these sponsors and let them know that, while you respect their businesses, they have become associated with a broadcast that has fallen out of favor in the community. Let them know that our ears are not attentive to the information regarding their business, as we have become distracted by what we have been hearing otherwise. I know that during the two broadcasts I've listen to, the commercial period has been a time of chatter about "can you believe what they just said". The listeners that remain are distracted and are not a fertile field to plant the seeds of business growth on. Don't forget to thank the sponsors for showing interest in our local youth activities.
  7. And I thought I was the only one that heard that comment. My jaw hit the floor.
  8. Pass a kidney stone or listen to another Graham game on the radio.....?..........Give me a minute, this is a tough one. I usually try hard to keep all my comments positive on here, but last night's broadcast was about all I could stand. Not being the best announcers, I can live with, but continually questioning the coaching staff is just uncalled for. Heck fire, poor old Coach Marrs even got bashed again last night. Like it or not, the band, cheerleaders, fans, and even the radio announcers are part of the team effort that the school and community put forth every Friday. Back in the glory days when Kess and Danny were in the booth, they were refreshing, entertaining, encouraging, and in all ways just good members of the team. I think it would serve all the area radio announcers well to listen to a few years of Jim Nelson tapes. What a pro. I remain impressed with Coach Williams' first venture as a head coach. He's winning the games he is expected to win.

    graham fans

I know it's hard to make a fair judgement from the opposing stands, but what I saw on the Tazewell sidelines during the Graham/Tazewell game was passion. I think the coaches are giving it all they got. I would love nothing more than to see Tazewell have success. I hope that the players and community keep their wagons hitched to Tate. It's not often that a fresh face makes an appearance in our local football scene. I think we need to give these new guys all the patience and support we can.
  10. I must disagree with the writer's statements about speed being the difference for the G-Men last week. For once, there was not a great speed difference between the G-Men and Beavers. It was simply the case of a quick back with good vision getting the ball with plenty of room to begin his runs, and being able to break tackles all the way to the end zone.
  11. If folks thought that in the first game a 25 to 0 head coaching years advantage wasn't going to be a factor, they're crazy. Being able to look at one's self objectively is a rare quality in a person, let alone a coach. I'm looking forward to watching Williams improve along with the rest of the team.
  12. Yeah, we lost, but the effort was great. I was happy to see the G-Men come out of the half throwing the ball. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But the bottom line is I don't think the coaches cared if they lost 10 - 0 or 100 - 0, they were going to let their team try to make plays. They gave them the opportunity to succeed, or fail, without hiding behind the fear of a blowout. Looking back at the preseason comments that Coach Williams has made, he delivered on what he hoped to deliver. He never promised a win, only that he wanted to see this team improve in every outing, and it seemed to me that they were improving throughout the game. I think he knows that the program is a work in progress, and I for one, am satisfied with that. The G-Men just need to keep their hands on the plow, their heads facing forward, and good things will happen. See yall Friday night.
  13. Graham's first PF and the horsecollar were legit calls. The pathetic PF call was the one when Graham was gang tackling and the referee was late with the whistle, then called the late hit. I'm glad Bluefield was decisively better, otherwise I can see that officiating crew screwing up a close game.
  14. Well, I spoke with the biggest "homer" Bluefield fan I know tonight and he said Graham may just have this one. I think this one will be competitive, and there should be some good one's ahead.
  15. How could I forget, #30 Grimes. I wasn't for sure about Kimbo. Must have been his Fr. or Soph. year.
  16. So how many Graham players can you name in this video? #10 Neel, #32 Hall, #31 Cundiff, #50 Mulkey, #65 Bailey, #12 Quesenberry Who's got more?
  17. Oops. My bad. I kick Mullins to the ORV list and add Graves to Top 10. After more thought, I'll put Paco on the ORV list.
  18. Sorry, no Paco. A very good player though.
  19. Ahmad Bradshaw, H.T. Mathews, Eddie Neel, Rick Brown, Eddie Hall, Mark Cundiff, Bill Dudley, Marcus Latimer, Mike Mullins, Chris Patton Others receiving votes: Danny Rusniak, Tony Palmer, Brian Denham, JoJo Jenkins, Milton Byard, Jacob Dews, Kimbo Spencer
  20. Any word yet on who will be on the Graham staff this year?
  21. I think the world of Coach Kinser. We need more like him.
  22. Lot's of valid points in the above posts. I still think we would know more about just how good Richlands has been if they had played teams from somewhere other than extreme SW Virginia. It's one thing to line up against one fast running back, it's another to lineup against d-linemen and linebackers faster than most quarterbacks. Team speed is just better outside of SW Virginia (anybody want to debate that?). Does speed always win? No, but the game of football is becoming more about it every year. Look at the battles (and thumpings) that have taken place when teams such as Gretna and William Campbell have matched up with our local squads. And I'll even talk out both sides of my mouth by pointing out that those are single A schools.
  23. BigD4VT's points are valid indeed. All I'm saying is that it would be nice to see Richlands play some teams from somewhere other than the deep southwest. It would match them up with various styles of play, and most definately increased team speed. It is not good for one's post season goals to have the first team sitting every Friday during the 4th quarter. You gotta test the metal. It is my opinion that Richlands should have won more than one title in recent years. thundercloud, My team didn't beat Richlands during those years for a number of reasons. Foremost being that Richlands either had better players or executed better. No matter what, Richlands has been the better team in the SW District since 2004. No sour grapes here, just digging on a point. I concede my that my original closing statement may have been antagonistic.
