  1. MTN. MISSION, will, at least for now, be considered, ineligible along with schools like OAK HILL, due to the boarding school restriction.
  2. The flood gates have been opened! I support private schools, home-schooling and the like, however this is an example of how much financial leverage LCA had and the VHSL was basically forced to acquiesce. The threat of losing a major lawsuit of this capacity accompanied with the financial deep pockets of LCA gave the VHSL no choice. Do I agree with the decision, NO! Do I understand why the VHSL did this, YES! The only pro-that I can see is the fact of the multiplier that was added that basically renders most of the private schools to 4A or up status. Unfortunately, I think that the multiplier will eventually be phased out, due to another lawsuit and when that happens, the smaller schools in the state can forget about State Titles. Interestingly enough, the home-school lobby will not be as effective with their attempts as was LCA. Until the home school lobby is as organized and as well financed as LCA they are still facing an uphill battle. IMO This decision, will adversely impact the already out of control issue of transferring as more and more "aggressive" athletic programs will be forced to do so in order to compete with the privates.
  3. Lambeau Fields was a great coach, with a coaching tree that resembled a light pole!
  4. Yep, lets get the government involved! I propose a two house legislative body for the VHSL. 2 Votes per school District in one house and 1 Vote per each 1,000 students per school district in the 2nd house. all proposed bills must be passed in both houses and approved by the GRAND POOBA in order to go into effect. SARCASM INTENDED
  5. A few years back, there was a point system implemented to help grade officials. This system allowed each coach anonymity when it came to grading or ranking the officials. This final ranking would be tabulated per district and the top vote getting officials would be rewarded by being permitted to officiate during the District and Regional tournaments. Interestingly enough, some officials who would score terribly low in one district, would receive high marks in another district. This, no doubt was a result of cronyism. Nonetheless, the system only lasted a couple of years and naturally, the word started getting out that this coach or this school or this district did not vote for so and so and officials were at least given the opportunity to establish a vendetta against said school or district. The system wasn't full proof and could have been modified a bit more, but it was an accountability tool for coaches. I personally know for a fact that in the last couple of years, while under new leadership, if a coach had a complaint about an official the then head of the A.O.A. made it a habit of informing that official and by doing so he created an uncomfortable situation between certain schools and coaches. One coach sent an email to the head of the A.O.A. and the head of the officials then forwarded that email to ALL A.O.A. officials, essentially blackballing or punishing that coach for his opinion.
  6. Few people will agree with me, but overall the officiating is improved, compared to last year. I've never seen it perfect, and it never will be, in my opinion it is the toughest sport to officiate. The quality of play is down, compared to 10 years ago, and that in itself makes it difficult to call a game. Not making excuses for officials, anyone who wishes to officiate, needs to work on improving their "game," and it too is a gradual process. I've coached HS Ball for 12 years, I have never seen anything as bad as things were last season, this season is an improvement and hopefully the improvement will continue. Things are far from where they need to be, but as bad as some may find it, overall it is better this season than last!
  7. Lambeau Fields? Wonder if he is up for it?
  8. 7 in the box, one deep and 3 locked on man to man! This has happened to a lot of SWVA teams when they have played Eastern squads in the past and the athleticism of the DB's usually present a problem for SWVA teams that are more accustomed to playing against zone coverage. I personally experienced this a coach in the 2001 State Finals, we had a strong running game and a great passing game, but our receivers were unable to get the separation needed to catch passes they normally would have hauled in versus zone coverage. Our running game, was used to 4 to 5 yards a pop and it was reduced to 2 and 3 yards a pop, man coverage has in the past created a lot of trouble for teams in SWVA in the past. Don't know if that is what all of these teams were facing on Saturday or not, but I naturally assumed that it might have been contributing factor.

  11. I will put on my prognosticator hat and say..... Colley AD Mullins Head Football Robinette Head Boys Basketball
  12. I taught and coached at Marion for 2 years, I know the current administration. There is no way that they knew about this prior to the Chilhowie game, if they had known, they would have immediately suspended those players. Those of you who are trying to create something from nothing, let it go. The situation is now under control and the administration acted properly in suspending the boys. Doing what is right is much more important than winning a football game and the administration is more concerned about doing what is right than winning a cross county "rivalry!"
  13. New Hurley Unis are nice, in my opinion. Really like the helmets also.

I have been told that the administration asked Lee to hire someone to coach defense, and he refused, they then told him he had to or quit and he thusly resigned. I believe the person that he was being asked to hire was Baker.
  15. Heard that the current AOA commissioner was not voted back in, or whatever it is that they do with those positions, and that a new commissioner is on the way. Any idea who it will be and what happened with Foreman?
  16. Worked with James for a couple of years, he will be a fine addition to Pulaski, as for Rob, coached against him and his dad, I think he is more than capable of being successful. He comes from great stock and he has strong character and leadership qualities. He would be a good fit at Fort or anywhere for that matter.
  17. Pretty nice clip on Kimmel about ObamaCare, enjoy! http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/2014/02/19/torch-passed-kimmel-crushes-obamacare
  18. Wow! A year ago, I would have been attacked and constantly harrassed as being a racist for posting something like this or at least expressing a similar view. Although, I agree with the assessment it is indeed .............Strange how things have changed..... Media bias and subjectivity is the rule with todays "journalism." Nobody reports the news objectively anymore, it seems as if everyone has an agenda!
  19. Must watch! http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/10/03/see-the-jaw-dropping-pass-during-a-high-school-game-that-will-have-you-saying-wow/
  20. Reminds me of the time all us folks rioted over the O.J. verdict, anyone remember how violent we got? Breaking windows, looting stores, burning cars and being interviewed by Geraldo. Man those were the days!
  21. Not this time, I think some heads are gonna roll when all of this mess is over with.
  22. This pretty much sums it up!
