That is how I always thought it was.

I don't know about you guys but to me the band adds to the atmosphere of the game. While the band is not the reason I go to a game it just wouldn't be the same without the instruments playing around the stadium before, during, and after the game. In fact I get chills when the national anthem and the Beaver fight song is played before and during the games.

And take the metro too while your at it.

Don't believe everything you hear. I've been to enough Bluefield and Graham games over the years that I can assure you that they're just rumors. I've never witnessed anything of that nature at any of the games I've been to. However the Weir incident took place after a state semi-final game in 2004 in which they lost to Bluefield 21-20 in overtime after been up 14-0 with 2:39 left in the game. Emotions escalated on the Weir sideline and it was Weir's assistant coach the head coaches son that had some words with some of their players and their fans in the stands. Things got so out of hand that police officers had to separate the assistant coach from one or two of the Weir players when the assistant coach took a swing at one of the officers and the assistant coach ended up on the ground in handcuffs.

Now that the subject has been brought up I would like to personally thank everyone that is involved for all of the hard work they put into the BDT football previews every year. I for one look forward to reading them each and every year and this week been no exception. Keep up the good work guys!

Check that it was Brian Grant not Brock Matthews that called games with Fred Persinger II back in 2003. Don't know what I was thinking. Still I've heard of Brock Matthews and he appeared to have a good radio voice in the h.s football commercial. I'm confident though that they picked the right candidate for the job.

He was last year. Not sure about this year though.

I'm not sure why Bob and Larry are not doing the games this year. I hate to see them leave the air. I've met Bob a few times myself and he is indeed very nice. On the other hand Brock Matthews actually called Bluefield games with Fred Persinger II back in 2003 and did a respectable job. I believe he'll do good.

I've missed maybe 3 or 4 Bluefield/Graham games since 1990 and from my experience it has been a nice clean rivalry. If anything does go on it is not enough to get my attention. Plus as a security precaution there are officers standing throughout the stadium. If anything the only thing that slightly bothers me about the game are those people that are there just to socialize and not watch a game. I don't have anything against socializing but these are mostly just teenagers moving around all game long and when they stop to socialize they'll stand in front of fans like me that are there to watch a football game. However that is to be expected during a rivalry game of this magnitude and even that is really not that big of a deal. I truly recommend attending.

Once again I believe it will all come down to how well the offensive line performs this season for Bluefield. It should be a good game on Aug.24. I'm looking forward to it. I believe Graham will have a good season this year if the coach and the kids have worked as hard as I've heard everyone say they have in which I don't doubt.

That's good I always like to see the Beavers scrimmage or schedule RRD schools during the season. Pulaski and Christiansburg have been great preseason tests for the Beavers in recent seasons.

I was informed listening to the radio today that Bluefield's new voice this year would be Brock Matthews.

What are expectations for Christiansburg and Shady Spring this year?

One thing troubling me right now is how is this sorry s.o.b able to have a lawyer? You have 71 people in a theatre shot 12 of them dead small children included. Then he was caught by police red handed with his weapons by his car in the back of the theatre immediately after the shootings. This sorry excuse for a human being should be behind the courthouse right now hanging. No excuses!

In my opinion the '89 G-Men would be the best defensive team out of the four followed by the '97 Beavers. The '01 G-Men and the '04 Beavers would be the best matchup because both teams produced mind boggling offensive numbers and had good defenses. Since 2004 I've always said that it's a shame that the '01 G-men couldn't have been three years younger or the '04 Beavers couldn't have been three years older or we would have had ourselves one hell of a Beaver/Graham game.
