  1. we do in VA, too - it's called a benefit game here. Down there, it's an endowment game. VA uses it as a scrimmage. NC allows teams to drop 1 game from their record for post-season seeding purposes, so a powerhouse A can play a good 3A or 4A ANYTIME and have it not count.
  2. "white-nose syndrome" found in Bath & Giles counties. http://www.dailynews-record.com/printfriendly.php?AID=36875&CHID=20
  3. That's down in Waynesville (SW of Asheville). They're 3A - about the same size as Carroll Co. or B'burg. The 'Eers surged to 11-2 last year behind the Asheville Citizen-Times All-W(estern) NC Player of the Year, Jr. QB Tyler Brosius. http://tuscolafootball.com/
  4. We WOULD need a waiver to drop for 2010 - it's the middle of a cycle and we requested to stay AA for the cycle. Don't see it happening. We didn't miss any deadline... we first said we wanted to drop, then we said we want to stay AA. Deadline for 2011 isn't here yet. BUT.... it's also possible we could withdraw from the SWD. That's a whole other can of worms... what would the VHSL do with us? Contract buy-outs, etc. Dropping to for Fall 2010 just doesn't work for me.
  5. Saw in the paper that 2010 IS what they're talklng about. That is a bit of a problem, since it's in the middle of a 2-year cycle. The VHSL doesn't move teams during a cycle - kinda defeats the whole purpose of having them to start with. Now, we might possibly ask for a special waiver or hardship or something like that, but I don't see it being granted. Nothing special happened around here lately that puts us at a disadvantage (like a plant closing), and we HAD a chance to drop THIS YEAR, but passed on it, so I don't see anyone feeling sorry for us. On the other hand, I think it's POSSIBLE we could drop. What with Districts not meaning much anymore because of Div. playoffs, the "big 3" (fb, b/g b'ball) don't actually need to have a full district schedule to make the post-season. Other sports would prob. have an easier time fixing their schedules. I just think this is a can of worms the state won't want to open. As for the possible District ... we already know the LPD isn't receptive to us, and we belong in the BDD anyway. The wrestling team will compete in the LPD, like Garden did, until we have more BDD wrestling teams - which means TFN. Reno will prob. still be available; I don't know if they have any criteria, but our enrollment isn't going to change much. It is possible to lose a tourney or 2 (Brookville might not want Single A teams there), and I wonder about the Va. Duals, but I don't think the schedule will change much. (Speaking of, I'd like to see more NC schools - Mooresville had a great team this year). And yes, we'll have a better shot at winning A then AA... C'burg isn't slacking off, Poquoson has a new coach, and AAA runner-up Fauquier will be AA in a few months.
  6. he's said his farewell http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0309/608905.html
  7. "I heard the school board voted and Grundy will be single a in 2010." Grundy can APPLY in 2010, but can't go to A until Fall, 2011. I'm sorry, but a statement that says "I heard" AND has incorrect info in it makes me wonder, because somebody's wrong somewhere. longhornpanther... Wrestling won't be affected. They won't be the 1st BDD school to have a wrestling program. Ask your coach if you want more info. Again, sorry, but "the full schedule arguement" isn't crap. They've had a very hard time getting a full sched. with just 4 avails. Does Matewan, Oak Hill or Morgan Co. appear on anyone else's sched? Contrary to some views, the points we give up won't be that big of a deal. 2 wins as AA basically counts the same as 5 wins as A. But why would teams like Carroll or Marion keep us when they have good or better teams closer that will also draw a bigger gate? All that aside, IT'S ABOUT TIME !!!!!! (if it happens... remember, the school board isn't who applies.)
  8. Grundy had about 225 Seniors in '82 - I think '79 or so was our biggest class.
  9. Beacuse we, the taxpayers, allowed our elected officials (Congress) to deregulate the banking/finance industry enough to allow this to happen in the first place.
  10. AIG screwed up by putting all their eggs in 1 basket, then the basket fell. I wouldn't call it a diversion, either... it's another piece of the puzzle. "If the American people new that AIG took large chunks of the bailout money and forwarded it to Germany 11 Billion, France 19 Billion, the U.K. 11 Billion and Sweden 5 Billion not too mention forwarding Billions to Chase Manhattan, Goldman Sachs etc. They would be OUTRAGED BEYOND CONTROL. By cleverly diverting the American people to focus on the meager 165 million in Bonuses the Obama Administration comes out smelling like a rose." AIG is an international company, so I'm not surprised the money's spreading out. Think the Big 3 don't have any suppliers that are out-of-country? I'm not expecting all their money to "stay at home", either. We live in a World economy now, and the US has been one of the driving forces. As we go, so goes the World.
  11. saw that on Olberman about 8:55. Expect it won't be big because nobody pays attention to the (mainstream) media on the weekends... esp. for the next month. Newspaper editorial cartoonists will have a couple of days to work with, and some of them will realize that if they try to make a joke about it, they're opening themselves up to critisism, too.

  14. 4:00 on the Deuce. Can't find GA info. Heard they had some avail. for Thur. until mid-day Wed. Sure looked sparse at 6 p.m. NRV schools aren't good at promoting some things. Tech doesn't even have info up on the ACC wrestling tourney they're hosting Sat. Thinking about splitting time between Cassell and Dedmon (unless Humbert can direct me to a TV).
