1. I agree with everything you said VTHOKIE_CEE01. But I can see why Outside the Lines focused on the student atheletes, since that is what ESPN is all about. I'm not sure if alot of the veiwers of ESPN would be too interested in what normal, non-atlethic, students are doing. However, I do agree that the problem is much bigger than just Student Atheletes. I go to UVa-Wise and I know several students here that live in income based housing, that could very well live on campus. They act like the atheletes stole the housing away from these people, but I'm sure they applied for just like anyone else would have too. So, how is that stealing?
2. I'm not saying if what they did is right or wrong I'm just saying that if they are going to pass legislative to keep student atheletes from doing this then they need to keep all the drug dealers and other people that are just too lazy to get out and work from doing it. I truely believe that there is enough assistance out there (i.e. food stamps, WIC, and other welfare) that can help any one get on their feet, but there are so many people that abuse it, the entire system becomes corrupt. Trust me, I see enough of working in the retail business. I truly makes me sick to have someone come through my checkout line paying with foodstamps and bragging about how they still live at home with thier parents but can get the food stamps anyway. This is all while im trying to go to school and work at the same time. Don't get me wrong I think if these wellfare programs are used correctly they are very benificial. But should only be used for the short term, until the person of family can get back on their feet. Sorry to kinda go off topic.
3. I had to do that for her class too. And now that you mention it I'm pretty sure i put relentless in there. Maybe it is supposed to be relentless?
4. My bad. Looks like I've been saying the wrong words all these years. lol Sorry about that, I thought it was relentless. And I'm not sure about the Midst, but IMO it sounds better, but then again I think Relentless sounds better also.
5. Yeah, I just watched that. I agree that it may be a little "dirty" the way some of the players take advantage of the subsidized housing when they could easily live on campus with their housing stipend. But they applied for the housing the same way that anyone could, and they obviously met the finacial requirement to get in. The story talked about the players taking the housing away from families that really needed it, but in my opinion they have bigger worries then the student atheletes taking the housing. I think they need to worry about the drug addicts and people that could very well have a job and pay for thier own housing, but instead choose to live in goverment provided apartments. Also, the big deal was that the student athelietes still get thier housing stipends and can spend it anyway they choose, even though they do not have to pay rent. But, I'm sure most student atheletes have no time to get a job to make any extra money for themselves. Between being a student and then practicing everyday they probably have very little time period, much less for a job. So, I don't see the big deal about it. If they meet the requirments they should have just as much of a chance to get into the housing as anyone. I may be a little bias becasue i know how hard it is to work your way thought college, as I am doing it right now. These athelets may not have paying jobss, but I'm sure they put in just as many (if not more) hours in each week then I do at Food City, and I can tell you now thats it's not easy being a full time student and working 30 hours a week.
6. [ QUOTE ] With blue and white banners flying, o'er the fields of victory. While Liberty's hopes were dashing, into dim obscurity. Resistless our team sweeps foward, mid the fury of the blast. We'll fight for the name of Richlands, til the last white line is passed. [/ QUOTE ] I think it might be... Relentless our team sweeps forward, midst the fury of the blast. But I'm not 100% sure. Either way it gets the point across.
7. [ QUOTE ] Comments made by Ron Brown and Dave Cox on WGTH Friday night. Those guys were already talking about their travel itinerary for Lynchburg. [/ QUOTE ] The last time I checked they arent on the roster for Richlands, and they wont be on the field playing the game on saturday.
8. I looked shocked when the ball was kicked. Was a very nice on-side kick though...counldn't have asked for a better one.
9. I heard this game will be played on Saturday @ 1:30. Is this right?
10. I agree completly...and I think we all saw why Jennings is a running back instead of a quarterback But, hey we got the win. However, against a better (not taking anything away from Graham) Liberty-Bedford team, that could very well cost us the game. He may have ran the same plays all game, but it was working so why mess with it, Especially when you're in the readzone. The HB pass was definetly a bad call.
11. [ QUOTE ] again at least the one we rent is better than any in the county and no compairson to pocays field if that is what you call it. i would not let little league play there.so dont knock graham because of the school board wont build one for us because spending it all on pocy. [/ QUOTE ] Well, don't "knock" Richlands visitor seating because the school board won't build new seating for us.
12. [ QUOTE ] All highlands. Thats like making 3rd team all SW district. [/ QUOTE ] Come on...Don't start this stuff again. These kids are great atheletes and deserve all the recognition they get.
13. Thats cool man, I was just pointing it out. I have no problem with it all.
14. I'm not trying to butt in here or anything, but you are fussing at this guy when there are three threads about the Bluefeild/James Monroe game on the front page and you are posting in all three? Come on give the guy a break if you're not going to say anything about the stuff for Bluefield. Im sorry if im coming across as trying to be a jerk, im just letting you know.
15. Ok, by my mathmatical calculations Richlands should win this game by atleast 10 points. Here is the therom I used to come to this conclusion... [(Average points scored per game by Team A) + (Average points allowed per game by Team B)] / 2 = Score of Team A [(Average points scored per game by Team B) + (Average points allowed per game by Team A)] / 2 = Score of Team B Richlands: Average Points Scored-36.82 Average Points Allowed-2.91 Graham: Average Points Scored-27.91 Average Points Allowed-13.64 Using the above equation one can conclude that Richlands score should be... 36.82 + 13.64 = 50.46/2 = 25.23 And Grahams... 27.91 + 2.91 = 30.82/2 = 15.41 Seriously, this is a bunch of crap...Its going to be one heck of a game, and I don't think any scholar can predict the outcome of this game. But im going to go out on a limb and say it will be a 10 point game.
16. [ QUOTE ] ...different elements keep pooping up to make this Team stronger. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not usually one to point out mistakes, but this is kinda funny. He said pooping...lol And yes I do feel like I'm five years old.
17. But did the reciever step out of bounds on that last long reception? That could have been the difference in the game.
18. [ QUOTE ] I'm probably the only person who reads Get Fuzzy, but for some reason this comic strip came to mind when I saw this subject header: [/ QUOTE ] Woah, that is hilarious. I need to hang that one up on my wall. haha
19. Any word on the CC/Magna Vista game?
20. [ QUOTE ] if i do say so myself i do think it will be a great game with richlands and the g-men but i do think that the tornados well pull though with another victory... [/ QUOTE ] They may not even play one another. On every tread on this board you have made the prediction of the Richlands/Graham game. We need to wait until next week to start talking about the second round. Alot of things can happen in a playoff game, teams play alot different if they know they will be going home for good if they loose. Not trying to sounds like a jerk. but seriously, who knows what will happen.
21. Oh trust me, it was certainly a Tornado, and a blue one at that. It wasn't pretty at all, the Blues laid a thumpin on those pioneers!
22. No, you didn't do anything wrong. But I dont think us Richlands fans did anything wrong by sticking up for our team either.
23. We got ya the first three times you said it. I think you may just be a little jealous of the seasons the Blues had, and thats understandable. If I was from Grundy I might would be jealous too. I guess not all the SWD teams can be as good as Grundy (thank God). Thats just me excersizing my right to "freedom of speech".
24. Yes, the trade deadline is in week 6. It wouldnt matter if TO went to Green Bay anyway, cause I dont see Favre being in Green Bay next season, IMO he should have hung it up after last season. I'm not saying he is that bad, his team has just been plauged with injuries and there is nothing he can do about it. But, he will defeintly retire after this season. But I guess he didnt see that happening at the end of last season. I just hate to see such a good player go out like this.
25. [ QUOTE ] if we had lance ayers we would have put up 15 more points friday night... [/ QUOTE ] Possibly, but I'm sure CC thought they were about to tie the game since they had Lance, but it didn't turn out that way. You need a strong offense in the redzone so the game dosn't depend on one player. Thats alot of pressure for one young man to be under. But really looking back we havn't been in alot of goal-line situations this season, I'm sure there has been a few, but for the most part aot of our touchdowns have came on long plays, or at least from 10-15 yards out, where a Shotgun formation can still work.
