  1. Bluefield 54 GE 19. Christian Oster TD run (the reserves are in).
  2. Bluefield 48 GE 19 8:15 left in the game Corey Coppola 86 yd TD reception.
  3. Bluefield 41 GE 13. (late in the 3rd quarter) Brandon Tabor with the 65 yard TD run. This was close for a while. I hope they can sustain this and not have a 4th quarter like they did against Princeton.
  4. I'll guess that most every play will have a D.J. in it. D.J. Green at center, D.J. Edwards at QB, D.J. Stewart at RB, and D.J. Sims on the line.
  5. Bluefield 34 GE 13. 1 yard TD run for Edwards, 3:37 left in the third. Bluefield with 34 unanswered points.
  6. Bluefield 27 GE 13, Leggett with a short (15 yard?) run after Bluefield recovers a GE fumble.
  7. Bluefield 20 GE 13. Montel Leggett with a 75 TD run (PAT missed). He's got at least 130-140 yards already.
  8. Bluefield-GE at halftime, Bluefield up 14-13. Brock Matthews still painful on the ears to listen to, calling the game. Wish they had a trained monkey that would slap the sh.. out of him every time he starts yelling. Capitol 22-0 over Princeton.
  9. Listening to the game, GE is up 13-7. Bluefield has some poor pass defense, and that Brock Matthews is still totally unlistenable. What a buffoon. Any time anybody runs for more than 5 yards, ding-a-ling starts YELLING. Same thing on any pass, be it complete or incomplete, he starts yelling HE IS WIDE OPEN. He even yells when the opponent does something. Can't stand listening to him. Please...where is Bob Redd? Oh, also, while typing, Leggett scored, it's now 14-13 Bluefield. And another onside kick? What is the deal with that? Is that just admitting we can't cover kickoffs, and it's better to give the ball at the 45 or midfield?
  10. It looks sharp, and I think the view from the accessible seating is probably very good. Only thing is, I'm not sure I'd want to sit in what was the first row before, the accessible seating is high enough so that those seats have a good view, but the first row may be looking at the backs of heads more than usual. I'm an engineer, and when I first heard about the project, I thought they'd be pulling down the front wall of the stands...they didn't, they kept it there and added on. Doesn't lose any seating capacity that way.
  11. Also....was Coppola declared ineligible? Thought I heard that on the radio broadcast.
  12. Always nice to get a win, no matter what. 52-44, win is a win, but a weird game. I was at the game last week, but not this week. Would love to get input from someone there. It was mentioned last week that the Beavers were sucking wind in the 4th. And now, this week, Princeton seems to score almost at will in the 4th. Does Bluefield have a conditioning problem? Also, pass defense doesn't sound great, whole lot of wide open passes. I'm also guessing the lack of size is hurting Bluefield. Any chance for not playing so many guys both ways? Thoughts?
  13. ...and why are there no heights/weights listted in the program? I know an OL doesn't have to be big, but there's a limit to it. Also, the defensive from 7(8) were getting worn down by what appeared to be a bigger Graham OL. Thought I remembered that Graham had few guys over 200 last year. Either they're bigger or BHS is awfully small...
  14. There's only one game per year where I don't pull for Graham, obviously, and I really want to say how impressed with the job Williams has done and is doing. As others have said, a tough, physical, hard-nosed team that plays like a Carlock team played. Even saw shades of Carlock with the unbalanced line and power-I formations. And as others have said, Bluefield has potential if they work on the mistakes. Just not impressed with the offensive and defensive lines for Bluefield.
  15. Jim Nelson was always the antithesis of that. Don't think I ever heard him raise his voice, but he always packed a lot of info into few words. Always knew who had the ball, time left, down and distance, and even the formation. Never felt the need to just keep jaw-jacking to fill air. That's the problem with announcers today...watched too much Madden or Gruden or the like...
  16. No sour grapes here. A win is a win, and Graham played VERY well. I was impressed, and I am glad that you have pushed past the Marrs era so quickly. Unforced errors cost Bluefield the game. The muffed punt and the two fumbles on the ahotgun snaps were the difference. Bluefield could have won in spite of that. Some thoughts: Bluefield's offensive and defensive lines look small, as usual. The Graham running game just kept beating on Bluefield's front and wore them down. Saw a little Carlock look out there with a true unbalanced line for Graham several times. The Graham QB isn't very big, but he's elusive and fast. Bluefield has better speed, which was seen each time a Bluefield DB had to run down a Graham runner who broke through the front 7 (or 8). Saw a lot of poor tackling by Bluefield defenders, trying to make the BOOM hit up high instead of going low and wrapping up. Picked up a Bluefield yearly game roster. And...no heights or weights? WTF is up with that?
  17. Bad, huh? Was at the game (first time in a decade), so didn't hear it. Bob Redd may not have an ideal radio voice, but he does okay drawing a picture of the game. Got in the car afterward ro hear them say they were switching to the Overtime show (where they give local scores), only to hear it switch to music. Adventure Radio really sucks.
  18. 1. I do think the O.P. is either trolling or having his leg pulled by his cousin. Never seen any significant violence at a BHS/GHS game save for a drunk or two causing a ruckus, most often with someone on the same side of the stadium. Only major BHS/GHS violence I know of is a couple of guys around 1986 going to a hoops game at GMS and getting into a fight that stopped that series for a while. Couple of guys I graduated with...and I'll bite my tongue on what I think of that situation. 2. Can anybody explain why the Bluefield band is so historically small, especially since the middle school does (or did) have a bigger band? Back in the day, I always heard it was because Saunders was so demanding (and unpleasant) that kids didn't want to bother.
  19. My thoughts as a Bluefield grad...those uniforms look good. They look "finished", which is what the old ones did not look. The old jerseys looked like practice jerseys, generic red or white jerseys with simply a number front and back. Heck, even the plain uniforms Penn State wore had piping around the neck and sleeves (I think).
  20. Heard that on the HS football commercial. What happened to Bob Redd and Larry Whatshisname? I know Bob, he's a really nice guy...don't know anything about Brock Matthews, has he called football before? He obviously has a good "radio voice", but will that translate to doing a good job? I know I say it every year, but I miss Jim Nelson.
  21. Only if the UVA admin would have covered it up like the PSU administration apparently did. I am shocked a bit that Sandusky was employable at that point, this was after the 1994 and 1998 accusations, though. I didn't know a thing about these accusations, but then, I didn't keep up with PSU and their assistant coaches.
  22. As has been said, think about if YOU were at work, went into the bathroom, and found someone, a co-worker, raping a small child. Would you go back and tell your supervisor, or call the COPS? I understand why McQueary was probably scared to death to go to the cops...Sandusky was revered in that town, and folks would believe Sandusky, and McQueary would be gone. Look now...folks are apparently threatening McQueary's life for doing the right thing (sort of), since it took down their legend, Paterno. This shower incident in 2002 wasn't even the first incident. It was at least the third one...Sandusky retired after being accused in 1998 (retired in 1999), and he had been accused in 1994. The guy had a rep as a sicko, he gets caught AGAIN, and folks do nothing (or just cover their own butts). I'm going to wait to pass big-time judgment until all the details are out, but it sounds like it rule #1 was to cover it up at PSU. I have no respect for Paterno now.
  23. Reading more elsewhere, and it backs up what you've said...Paterno did enough to be legally absolved of responsibility, but that isn't a whole lot. Reporting it to his superiors, and that's it. Didn't fire the guy, didn't call the cops, did nothing to stop it. Word is, Sandusky was back in the football offices as recent as last week. Paterno know this guy was a kiddie toucher, and didn't cold-cock the guy for it. The university president has responsibility to do something about it. The laws in place in regard to college campuses and safety are bound to hammer that guy...he definitely had the legal responsibility (as you noted) to call the authorities...which he apparently did not do.
