  1. Congratulations to the team and Coach Rife. This is a very good win and confidence builder for the Golden Wave. Look forward to seeing more success in the future.
  2. True Sman...very true. The Panthers are the best right now but who knows what the future holds. Gate City beat Oak Hill Red at Gate City by 6 in OT. All-in-all though, if TV improves just as everyone should they will continue to be the best in the area. As long as TV plays team ball and the players don't try to be individual stars (which a certain coach won't let happen I'm sure) the Panthers should make the trip to Richmond. Be thankful certain individuals have already made a big impact and it should only get better.
  3. I'm sure Lester will continue to QB TV. I was told he didn't play against Haysi due to a shoulder injury.
  4. Not sure they would admit it if they were!!!
  5. I'll lay this one out there.... Twin Valley 16 Haysi 15 HA!HA!HA!HA! For real.... Twin Valley 8 Haysi 24
  6. Was informed an upset may be in the making at Sandlick. Think I'll go watch the Tigers and Panthers get it on.
  7. The team with the most points...HA! HA! HA! Just having some fun...actually: BDD - Honaker No big suprise. LPD - Burton I could be wrong. SWD - Richlands The cool Tornado prevails again.
  8. For someone to be from or to pull for Castlewood you sure are hung up on Twin Valley a whole lot. Makes you wonder...if you know what I mean! You need to concern yourself with the Blue Devils and their future. The more you put TV down the worse Castlewood looks...but hey...I'm sure you know that.
  9. Lebanon 21 George Wyth 24 Hurley 28 Thomas Walker 7 Tazewell 21 Abingdon 14 Honaker 32 Haysi 17 Big game of the week: Graham 14 Richlands 24 One of no importance but I'll still list: Twin Valley 28 Poca 7

    TV FOOTBALL

I sure hope you got the chance to enlighten swd on this matter. From what was seen and from the talk going around regarding the loss to GBC one can't trully decide where the TOTAL blame lies, eventhough the buck usually stops with the coach. IMO a lot of players & coaches - not all mind you - thought the game was going to be so easy only their bodies were present and nothing else. Guess what, Friday night actions may have played a role in Saturdays game for all we know. Let's leave the coaches and players along so they can reflect on what needs to happen for the future. Who knows, Beamer Ball may not have worked either.
  11. I fully understand what you are saying, but...a school with only 44 kids 9-12 (according to BHC) and I'm sure they don't have the best athletes in WV enrolled, so again, why worry?. I agree with some others, TV wins easily even using backyard football techniques. When fully prepared to the best of your ability...I'll leave the rest to the intellect.
  12. Why are you interested in what GBC has? They have lost their first two games by a combined total of 53 points, scoring 41 and giving up 94. Enough said, this Saturday should be another very easy one for your beloved Panthers. You should run the same D against GBC you used on St. Paul. TV 54 - GBC 14
  13. Don't really know anything about the Deacon's except they were beaten soundly by Holston last week. From what I hear St. Paul should finish in the cellar in the Cumberland District which isn't considered a strong football district. I would think the Panthers need not worry about this one, but hey, anything is possible in high school sports. The Panther's offense should break 40 points this week with the D giving up only 7.
  14. Twin Valley places first going unbeaten. They beat Abingdon twice and Castlewood, Chilhowie, Patrick Henry, and Council once each. Hats off to the players, Coach Moore, and his staff for finishing tops without a loss.
  15. Why what happened at Honaker? I thought he just left to become a head coach.
  16. Brian Moore is second to Rick Goodman. He will jump in front of him if TV can win state this year.
  17. Yes congrat's to the Panthers. Great job! I agree Coach Moore has done a good job and really pushed the program to the top. He built a very good cohesive team with a solid foundation. His coaching techniques make the game fun for everyone on the team and in the stands. He believes in his system and doesn't let outside pressure influence his decisions. He and the team deserve everything they get because they have worked hard for it. Without Coach Moore I don't think the Panthers would be where they are.
  18. Hurley visits Twin Valley Friday for their first BDD test. Hurley is playing well and has built some confidence. They also have some size to offset the Panthers. Any comments on the outcome of the game? I will predict the Panthers by a minimum of 15. It may be more like 25.
  19. Very good post JuiceDawg. You're right in stating Tazewell should make TV beat them from the outside. This could prove to be the weak point of TV because their starters and first two off the bench are streak shooters. They do have a sophomore with a good outside shot who isn't encourgaged to shoot. This should be a good game but I will have to take TV by 10.
  20. Guess you’re glad that the Panthers hadn't played any round ball since December 17th. If they had been playing games like the Bulldogs have been it may have been a massacre. The Panthers were very rusty but by the end of the third quarter everyone knew who the victors were. TV was up by 19 with 5:38 to go in the game and put their subs on the floor to finish the game. Better luck next time Dogs. Tazewell does have a good team with some talent and they are very scrappy. If they had someone 6’7†in the middle they would be tough. Just face it, Twin Valley by far has the better team of the two and for that matter any team in the SWD.
  21. I do not disagree that it is the coach’s job to have the kids ready to play. You can practice kids...drill kids...scrimmage kids...run kids...prepare kids mentally and physically all you want but one thing a coach can't do is give a kid heart or passion to play the game. This comes from within and know matter who is coaching if the kids have the desire, determination, heart and fortitude to succeed they can...especially a bunch as talented as Grundy. Now by know means am I taking sides with the coach. The coach must also have a love for the game second only to God. They must also coach during the game by utilizing timeouts, making appropriate substitutions, etc. In last nights game these things were missing. I wish Grundy all the luck in the world because at this point they need it.
  22. Although I am not from Grundy I am a proponent of their basketball team and I wish to make a personal observation from last nights loss to Hurley. First let me congratulate Hurley on a great win. The coaching from the bench and the desire and determination of the players consumed Grundy. I don’t know where the blame should be placed for Grundy but last night they played with no emotion. Their coach sat quietly on the bench like a log and the players seemed to have an “I don’t care attitude.†If this is the way it is going to be then Grundy will definitely have a very long losing season. I know everything rests on the shoulders of the coach…but hey…the players on the floor are talented enough and know enough basketball to win even if the coach doesn’t care. Especially the games they are supposed to win. I don’t know where the problem lies, but until the MIGHTY GOLDEN WAVE finds some HEART their basketball program will be no better than last years baseball program.
  23. More had to happen than trying to throw the round ball into the ocean. This is a big let down for the Grundy Golden Wave being beat by Council last night. Council traveled at least four hours (round trip) to win a game Thursday and then went to Grundy Friday playing back-to-back a team I think is very talented and athletic. Not to mention that Council is supposed to be the weakest they have been in a long - long time. Grundy has to win these kind of games if they intend to live up to the recognition they have already been given. I would have picked Grundy by at least 15 but what do I know. Go with Goodman, he always beats Grundy.
