Just watching the groups up coming and Tazewell's skill players I tend to think they will win 2 out of the next 3 against Richlands as well. I know I haven't watched enough of Richlands younger groups and only watched very little varsity last year but I just didn't think their skill positions had the it factor but I heard the QB change helped that a lot. I'm anxious to see the new look Blues in person
I would love to know where they spent that $1.81 million for parks and rec...it sure wasn't at the City Park facility that includes the park, the trails, Bowen Field, the tennis courts, and Mitchell Stadium. I wonder how much went into Charles Ridelhuber's pockets...
Were all of the renovations to the rec center last year or the year before? I know they have made quite a few lately last time I was in there the upper room looked like a totally different place.
Just read that the school board voted tonight to have Graham play 2018 home games at Tazewell. I would guess it will need to be a two year plan since the new stadium will open in 2020
I'll go different with my suggestion to eat I have had some great experiences at the Bearded Moose but also two not so great experiences. I would go with Roma's and get the garlic knots with pepperoni and cheese.
1. A student can live anywhere and start their 9th grade year wherever they choose. However, that school then becomes their designated school..
2. If that student decides to return to the school where his or her physical residence is, they must still sit out one year, or receive special permission from the local school board and be granted a hardship waiver or other type of waiver.
3. If a student transfers to another school after attending 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th at another school, A PHYSICAL ADDRESS CHANGE must take place or the student must sit out one year from the date of transfer. (Waivers can also be granted in this situation, but are rare)
4. If a student is attending a school and then has to attend another school due to their parents being separated , that student is eligible to participate at the new school. The separation needs to be a legal separation.
5. If a student who has switched schools due to a parental separation and then decides to switch back to live with the other parent, the VHSL will grant them eligiblity, based on the District filing a form and approving a ONE TIME transfer due to separation.
That pretty much sums it up in layman terms,
I'm not sure what constitutes a legal separation Virginia has no such status. Do the parents actually have to enter into some kind of custody arrangement or property settlement agreement to meet that requirement?
I was a little shocked by the roster that Tazewell had in the paper. There were only like 7 or 8 freshmen on the roster did several middle school kids from last year not play this year? Maybe a little success can help get those kids back out in the future.
I think I saw a thing on twitter that said to contact the high school by July 21st to renew your season tickets so you may call the high school to find out if they are on sale to the public yet.
I know a lot of it is just we have more info than we have ever had about recruits and offers but I wonder how James Mitchell's recruitment compares to the Jones brothers and Ahmad Bradshaw? I know in the internet era it doesn't seem like we've ever had a kid in SWVA with the kind of offers that James Mitchell has.
After integration they did. Before that there was a football field in the parking "Pit" called the BeeCee Bowl and that is where they played most of their games with an occasional game at Mitchell Stadium.
Seems like an interesting topic for an images of America series book if enough photos are still around. They won two national titles in the 20s.
I was trying to find a little info on Bluefield State football when my wife started teaching there but haven't really had time to explore very deep. I know they disbanded in 1981 does anyone know if they played their home games at Mitchell?
Saw the new turf at Mitchell was down. Wonder how much of a life span the field's at Ernie Hicks and Fuller Field have left in them?
On looks alone Richlands turf still looks brand new. I'm not sure what wore it out so quickly at Mitchell I guess they play 10+ high school games, 6 college games plus a season of college practices, little league, middle school and JV games, the concerts couldn't have helped any either
I have no inside information at all so this is in no way a prediction but ever since the Clemson offer I have had a feeling ultimately that would be the final choice
I can't really see how using Tazewell on Thursday nights is a viable option for several reasons:
1. The travel costs of busing players, band and cheerleaders down there to play on a Thursday night not just monetary but also the entire congregation getting in very late on a night with school the next day.
2. Tazewell doesn't exactly have a lot of extra space for dressing rooms and parking they would be using the lockers in the field house themselves that time of year and they would be finishing practice overlapping with pregame activities which would take away more from the parking even more.
3. Tazewell really doesn't have any restroom or concession areas. The Lions club had to move into the elementary school cafeteria for their concessions for health department reasons I was told so both groups would have no place to store any supplies everything would have to be carried in for everything. The home restrooms are also in the elementary school neither one are ideal accommodations.
4. Tazewell's field condition deteriorates pretty quickly over the course of a season by the end it's pretty much a mud pit as it is used by high school, JV, middle school and youth teams all season. I assume that Graham would need a place for middle school and JV to play as well. That would be a scheduling nightmare.
East River is in Mercer Co,, not Tazewell Co.. East River Mountain is named for the East River...so, no...
Now the Bluestone River, it begins at the Divides in Tazewell Co. and would run right by the property of said "Tazewell Co. East High School". However, the name "Bluestone" is used by another school in VA, Bluestone High School, therefore, the other names I mentioned would be more distinct...
I never realized that East River only started on the WV side I thought for sure it started on Virginia side, oh well I actually learned something new on here today. Now the mountain up behind the bluestone ghost town is that still called East River Mountain on the Tazewell County side?

I think it was called Park Central High School in Bluefield and it was located somewhere around Mitchell Stadium
