  1. Little league had try outs and you had to earn the right to play. Now as long as you pay your $25, you get equal playing time. Funny, the kids that didn't make little league ended up playing in someone's back yard. What about the kid that is really good and the parents can afford to pay the $25 but can't afford AAU and traveling expense. Should that kid be punished and not allowed to play to his/her fullest potential in his 8 minutes of play time? You should never tell a kid to stop doing their best! That is ridiculous. Some kids are better athletes and yes, when they get older they will earn the spots on the high school team. But somewhere along the way, rec leagues took away the feeling of excelling and replaced it with reinforcing kids that aren't good at sports self esteem. You just set kids up for disappointment when you don't let them see some kids are better than them. It's like telling an average or below student they "have to go to college" to make a living. What about mechanics, carpenters, etc. We need those people too and they don't have to have a college degree to serve you.

  3. William Campbell guy is John Meadows and he did not get a call back. He had a long interview a few weeks ago but has heard nothing since. Colobro did not apply.
  4. "By the way need to know where field is????any help...anyone? " If you come 81/77, Exit 1 at Bluefield, WV, follow John Nash Blvd. to 460 West. Take the first Exit in the state of VA (redlight at Food City), go to the end of the street, turn left at red light and take the first right (in front of Bluefield College's dome); go straight on stadium drive and Mitchell Stadium will be on your left.
  5. We switched from Comcast to Direct TV and it is better. We had DISH several years ago and I liked it better. Whenever it rains, Direct is constantly searching for signal. I think it's because the guys that showed up to hook ours up mounted it on the roof and the antenna gets a lot of wind. It is definitely better than Comcast though.
  6. The football schedule that was provided to Graham's band students has them playing at Mitchell Stadium on October 1 @ 7.30
  7. The warranty for the Mac is three years standard, so you may want to contact them. They are great to work with on warranties.
  8. She is a senior this year but softball will probably be hard for her. Her dad coached her for years, but he had a heart attack and passed away last week.
  9. Do you have a CW channel with Direct? We were going to get Dish installed, they rep told me we would have local channels but when the guy showed up to install it, he said it was a sales pitch and we wouldn't get any local channels or any networks. They will probably get them by January. He said he thought Direct already had them but Direct charges more than Dish and he thought that was why they didn't get them as soon.
  10. President George Bush was in Blacksburg, VA (a couple days after the massacre) to console students and faculty.
  11. "our assistant band director (james french) is supposedly spliting time up with graham and richlands b/c tazewells band director quit and richlands director went to tazewell and the almighty brenda lawsont made mr. french split up his time....so ive heard " With the Richlands/Graham rivalry in band competitions THAT would NOT work!
  12. It's the rescue squad in Bluefield, VA that has the haunted house. It opened last night, will run until 11:00 pm tonight, and be open next Thursday/Friday/Saturday. I'm not sure what nights it will be open the following week. Sometimes they leave it after Halloween so it may also be open November 1. It starts at 7:00 each night.
  13. They weren't my numbers, I just copied them from the other website. I just thought it was interesting to see where Mance was on the payscale and show what the potential would be for staying in Tazewell County (Doug just happened to be a good comparison). I would assume it would account for all of the income since it states it was there salary for 2006-07 but I really have no idea.
  14. From Tell Tazewell County website, December 4, 2007: IT'S YOUR MONEY Gathering local government salaries from across Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee was not only an arduous exercise of fiscal oversight for this newspaper, but also showed that localities routinely fail to follow open records laws. Most of the data in this project are from the year 2006-07 and might not account for pay raises, employee turnover or constitutional officers who lost re-election bids. Employees who earn under $10,000 a year were omitted because the Virginia Freedom of Information Act sets that threshold for public disclosure. The data were released by cities, counties, school systems and towns in Virginia and Tennessee and could have changed slightly from the time of release until now. William Gregory Mance Teacher $35,683.00 Douglas Eugene Marrs Teacher $52,030.00
