  1. What a beautiful moment. I have used many different things (beer bottles, silverware, fireworks, etc.) as a microphone to sing Don't Stop Believin'. Never have I thought to use a goose with a hat on. UVA claims to be one of the nation's top universities. This student certainly pulled his weight to make that true.
  2. Frank Beamer's tenure as head coach ends.
  3. I currently work in a neurology lab that is trying to determine predictors of Parkinson's disease, as well as treatments to stop or reverse the effects of the disease... and yet we're woefully underfunded. I know there are more complexities involved, but man, how do some studies get funded?
  4. Huh, thanks for the post Lance. I would have never considered looking at such a list if you didn't bring it to our attention.
  5. Are those "money hungry global warming alarmists" willing and able to pay decent wages to the people of central Appalachia? If so, then what's the harm? Also, this a question directed to everyone, because I don't know. Is there natural gas available in Appalachia to mine via hydraulic fracturing? I think they mine for it in western Pennsylvania and northern WV, but I didn't know about southern WV, swva, or eastern KY.
  6. I'm exhausted. Going to bed a happy man. What an amazing effort tonight.
  7. It was so much fun earlier.
  8. It's now the start of the 4th . I'm a wreck.
  9. Rams vs. patriots The Rams D will hold all opponents to less than 12 points a game. That will leave the offense with not too difficult of a task, but after week three it will become obvious that Shaun Hill can't get the job done and the Rams will bring in Tim Tebow. Tebow will lay it all on the line for one season, and lead the Rams to a wild card spot, where they'll blow through the playoffs to the Super Bowl. The Patriots will just score 45 points a game, and call it good.
  10. At some point in the next couple of years, won't ESPN (or any channel/network really) just offer online prices that we can just buy individually? That's my hope. I want to just pick and choose what programming I want without having to commit to Bravo and E!.
  11. I remember playing rec league basketball as a youth, and we would have an "A" squad made up of the better players and a "B" squad made up of the lesser players. The A's would play the first and third quarters, the B's would play the second and fourth. Trying to build fundamentals and equalize talent at an early age isn't just limited to soccer in this country.
  12. I've got to go with the Netherlands over Spain as well, simply because of the "nobody saw that coming" factor.
  13. Yep, great start. Rams are doing exactly what they need to.
  14. Oh, I was too. I was terrified every time VT played Wilson. At any point he could put up 400+ passing yards on a team, even with the lack of talent he had around him at NCST. I should have been clearer before. It was the Kiper/McShay crowd who overlooked him. Not all of us who, you know, actually watch college football.
  15. Good post. I think Aaron Murray has the chance to be the "how did we overlook this guy?!" player in a few years, kinda like Russell Wilson. And Logan Thomas is gonna make a helluva tight end for the Patriots.
  16. EXACTLY!! To listen to sports radio here in St. Louis, or read the newspapers, you would come to the conclusion that no one here is thinking reasonably. Let's see what Bradford can do when he stays upright for a season, has the same offensive coordinator for more than one season, and has actual talent around him.
  17. I completely agree. He also has no regard for his own self preservation, so he will be broken in half by about the end of year two. And now the St. Louis media are saying that the Rams may pick him up. I would instantly give up on this team if that happened.
  18. This is a pretty good class for defense. Players like Timmy Jernigan, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, that nose tackle from Pitt (what's his name?), etc. will be sitting right there for the Cowboys to take at 16. I think those guys will be solid NFL players, as well as a couple others. There's of course been buzz that Dallas will trade up to take Manziel, which I wouldn't put past them. It would be pretty consistent with Jerry Jones' recent history of going for the flashy headline rather than doing what's best for his team. I've been following the Rams since moving here to St. Louis a couple years ago, and they've also got interesting needs to fill, and a bunch of picks to do it with. They got the 2nd pick from Washington in the RGIII deal a couple years ago, and should probably use it on an OT, assuming Jadaveon isn't still there. Other than that, the Rams really need to expand their WR corps, and do something about their secondary. Oh, and Sam Bradford is still the QB for what that's worth. I always get excited for the draft, partly because it could be a reset button for the trajectory of franchises, partly because of VT players, and partly because I like thinking through the draft/trade strategies always in play. I'll certainly be watching.
  19. Ha, a UVA fan calling someone else out for "hubris"? Pot, meet kettle.
  20. And now here's Buzz Williams in the CBS studio with Kenny Smith, Barkley, etc. Who would have thought a week ago that we'd be talking about Virginia Tech during the NCAA tournament?! WHEN DOES BASKETBALL SEASON START?!
  21. Ha, I think this is borderline inexplicable. VT basketball was moribund at very best, maybe even dead. It would have taken me a lot to believe that a rock star coach like Buzz Williams would even consider the job, much less take it. This immediately injects life (back?) into the program, and creates an excitement that I haven't seen since those fun(ish) Seth days. Williams built some tough teams at Marquette; I can't wait to see what he's able to accomplish at VT. I'm beside myself with excitement right now. LET'S GOOOO
  22. Ah, I forgot I had commented in this thread. My apologies. Yes, I am "left" of most (well, all) of the opinions expressed on these boards, but my liberal friends in the cities I've lived in are always on my case for being so conservative, so I guess I just piss everyone off. It's just that everyone on both sides are so quick to get their panties in a bunch about the most benign and inconsequential things, such as entirely achievable "regulations" to wood burning stoves. There's so much unnecessary fear-mongering noise that we're all exposed to everyday, that sometimes we should all just take a step back and realized that The Other Side isn't trying to steal our every liberty, or turn us socialist, or are made up troglodyte racists, or etc. etc. etc. In regards to wood stoves, the EPA proposed (not even passed... they PROPOSED regulations) that update outdated regulations. Those who have wood stoves already installed can keep them. I just poked around on a couple websites and saw reasonable priced stoves ($500 - $800) that are well under the 7.5 g/hr, which is the current regulation. My guess is that IF the EPA even takes the proposal somewhere, the final number they propose will be well above the 1.9 g/hr they've floated out there at this point. In other words, these "regulations" aren't worth worrying about. Fox News was just desperate for some more clicks, and they saw this as a good opportunity to do so. FWIW, I've never voted for a Democrat. Granted, I wasn't a registered voter here yet when Todd Akin was running for Senate, but still...
  23. No... no it's not. The EPA is suggesting everyone switch to a wood stove that 1.) will help preserve our collective health and 2.) save the owner some money. It will take less wood to heat a home than before. I'm not trying to be contentious, but could you show me where they plan on "banning" wood burning stoves?
  24. Holy adware, batman. I'm pretty sure my computer is going to overheat just by going to breitbart.com. What a horribly designed website. Here's a youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRKFwj8RHcM Edit: I assume this is it. I couldn't play the video on breitbart, so I don't actually know.
