What is your insight into the '5 plays' run more prominently than others in 95? I am very, very curious?
  2. [ QUOTE ] a graham team that ever gave up on a game no matter how far down they were. [/ QUOTE ] *cough* 1995 *cough*
  3. [ QUOTE ] "Little trivia for you about that team. Every player in the back field (1st team) grew up in Bluefield, WV through at least elementary School. At the time(95), only one lived in VA. " Gman .... is this correct??? I can't believe it!!! [/ QUOTE ] I'm guessing there is some sarcasm and animosity in this post directed towards G-Man. But yeah, it's true.
  4. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I think he was meaning 95'..they had some good backs that came from bluefield that year [/ QUOTE ] Little trivia for you about that team. Every player in the back field (1st team) grew up in Bluefield, WV through at least elementary School. At the time(95), only one lived in VA. [/ QUOTE ] And you should know! Wasn't your dad the QB for one of the BHS State Championship teams???? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah. Here is my BHS lineage. Grandfather played QB there for 2 years in the 40s. My great uncle Richard Bourne, 2 time all state and helped Gianer win his 1st State Championship in 62. Dad Played defense on the 67 State Championship team and 68 team that should've played for the title, QB'd the 69 team that should only lost one game, and was a defensive coach on the 75 team. He coached Donny Jackson and Wayne B as well.
  5. [ QUOTE ] I think he was meaning 95'..they had some good backs that came from bluefield that year [/ QUOTE ] Little trivia for you about that team. Every player in the back field (1st team) grew up in Bluefield, WV through at least elementary School. At the time(95), only one lived in VA.
  6. [ QUOTE ] Graham fans are so easy to get their panties in the wad. They're by far the bunch most on edge and ready to pounce at anything negative. If this thread doesn't show that then I have no clue to what does. And just for the record, the team that I compare present Bluefield teams is the 1997 team. And while last year's Bluefield team was very special and an outstanding group of kids, on and off the field, they didn't compare to the 1997 team. Is that fair that I compare? Maybe not. But everyone uses comparisons everyday in life to help make order and better qualify things in their respective lives. [/ QUOTE ] Well, maybe on the whole, Graham fans are the most on the edge. Personally, I am not really into being edgy. I was simply noting that I think the teams of 89 and 95 get the edge in the regard of best Graham teams ever. On a whole, my family has been closely tied to some of the best Beaver or Graham or their history as a whole. Uncle, Beaver's first All-State/All-American player in 62. Father, player and then coach in '67 and '75 (also All-State in '69). Myself, got mine at Graham in '95. I am deeply emersed in Bluefield football history. Not a sermon, just a thought.
  7. [ QUOTE ] The standard that I compare all Graham teams to now, fair or not, is that of the 2001 Graham team was that a juggernaut. And the 2005 edition of the G-Men don't come close to that team in any regard. Now if that means I have a "terrible attitude" towards Graham then so be it. However, as I'm sure the G-Man will attest to, I've defend Graham in many areas around the internet over the past four years or so. And I'll do the same today if needed, but I won't build them up into something they're not. [/ QUOTE ] Respectfully, I have to disagree with your Graham standard. Many times people say that winning is the bottom line, and in terms of making comparisons, I agree. Therefore, until another Graham team wins a State Championship, the '89 and '95 teams remain the standard. Of course, I'm a bit partial.
  8. G-Man, I will be home for my first Beaver Graham game since I played in 95. Look forward to seeing you. Also, Total...look forward to seeing you. We haven't been introduced in cyberspace, but my old man was your advisor over on the hill.
  9. Yep, thanks for the 94 score. Amazing to think I can't remember the score to a game I played in....I guess I have done well to forget it actually.
  10. Also....in 1994 Bluefield won by a couple points. Keith Pruett threw a miracle TD after scrambling around for what felt like a year. In 1995, Isabelle had a tweaked an ankle but played the entire game at full speed. 26-24 Graham
  11. [ QUOTE ] Brent Surface was good but he never even reached 800 yards. Graham has had 7 or 8 players in the last 10 years to reach at least 1200. Dews, Brandon Banks, Byard, Easly, Graves, Jones, Bradshaw, HT Matthews. I don't think Surface was better than any of the HB's easly and matthews were fullback and QB. Mike Henry and Jared Tibbs may have had more yards than Surface. [/ QUOTE ] What do three of those backs have in common, they played in the same backfield. Banks, Byard, and Easly in 95.
  12. [ QUOTE ] 1995...Bluefield vs. Graham...The Beavers scored early and often jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. The G-Men never quit scoring the games final 26 points to win 26-20. 1995...William Campbell vs. Graham...Undefeated William Campbell stormed into Mitchell Stadium for a State Semi-final showdown with the G-Men. The Generals were averaging over 40 points per game but the G-D stepped up holding William Campbell to a single TD and scoring Graham's only points on an INT return for a TD...Graham 7 William Campbell 6. [/ QUOTE ] Glad to know I was involved in what you think are two of the best games you have seen. Those would be on my list from that season along with the thumping we put on Gate City in Mitchell. And obviously, the state championship game! Take care, man. I love this site.
  13. Trav is a great guy and coach. He was a asst coach for the first Graham team in 95 while he finished up at Bluefield College. Edit: GMan, did you know Travis when he was in Blfd? He was engaged to a local girl for sometime. You would probably know her older sister.
  14. Ahh, the short mememories of youth. I am one of the founders of the soccer program at Graham. The first team fielded was in the spring of '95. We spent our own money for most equipment and went door to door to local businesses for money. I think we won 3 or 4 games. We traveled all over the place to get our asses handed to us. In Spring of 96, we got better and won 5 or 6 games. There was no district to win at the time. Tazwell, Grundy and Richlands didn't have teams. Well, Richlands had a club team that we beat 12-0 in a scrimmage. I really don't feel bad for you guys complaining. I have a vested interest in the Graham soccer program, both boys and girls. I know quite well a player on the girls squad, their leading scorer. And I was in the group of guys that got the boys program started. Ask Debbie Hart about the early days of Graham soccer if you ever get the chance. I might be new here. But G-Man knows me and can vouch.
  15. Close to the Community Center....that's my old hood. Grandparents live on Albemare and we live on Pearl St until we moved to Bluefield, VA. Worked at the Community Center for almost 3 yrs in HS. I hope you find your cat. I couldn't imagine how tough that is on you. Good luck.
