  1. I think sometimes people forget about BDD teams, Honaker and Haysi are not world beaters and arent in the upper class of SWVA football but are both solid year in and year out and every now and then have some pretty good teams. Honaker is always a tough out, Hubbard always has those boys ready to play and they are physical.
  2. Oak Hill is in the same group as Bluefield(AA), right? The guy has nothing to complain about, GET BETTER. If Bluefield was a big AAA and Oak Hill was a small A then it would be different. Poor leadership by a coach.
  3. I dont know for sure but I assume Haysi will be be dropping Giles(long trip), Sullivan North(long trip), and maybe Castlewood(seems like we only play them 2 years at a time) and Thomas Walker(long trip). I wouldnt mind seeing Tom Walker and Castlewood stay on the schedule but I would like to see Giles and North off it. I would like to see Giles and North replaced with JJ Kelly and Powell Valley and if TW and Castlewood end up off the schedule see them replaced with Coeburn and St Paul. Maybe a KY or WV school or two.
  4. Were they cut or chopped? There is a huge difference, cutting is a good way to block a good defensive lineman. Chopping is dirty, unethical and one of the lowest, worst and most cowardly things a lineman can do and only serves to get people hurt! Cutting - taking the legs of a lineman directly in front of you out(hit him in the shins) Chopping - taking the legs of a lineman diagonal to you out, espicially while he is engaged with another lineman I know most of you know this, im just trying to figure out what happened
  5. The Teco Bowl was a mess! In multiple team scrimmages I like a 1/2 each game, example TeamA vs TeamB then TeamB vs TeamC and finally TeamA vs TeamC. I always thought of that as a Jamboree. As far as 1 on 1 schrimmages, I dont like them, the point of these Schrimmages is to prepare your team for everything they are gonna face in a season and playing against a run happy team(Haysi vs East Ridge) doesent do that, neither does just playing a team that likes to pass the ball alot(Grundy vs Pikeville).
  6. How does divisional play watter things down any more than a 5 or 6a setup?
  7. I knew Russell Prater was open but thats the only one I knew about. Eventually splitting the Tazewell kids between Richlands and Graham makes sense to me, sending them all to Richlands does not. Tazewell Co seems to have the money and facilities(they are in good shape) so that consolidation wont be an issue for the near future. Russell Co also seems to be on top of things. Im not a fan of closing the small Elem schools, I like the idea of young kids being close to home and keeping the teacher/student ratio as small as possible (1/10 is good IMO). From middle school on 1/20 is fine, any more than that makes for a poor learning environment. Im not of the opnion to build build build but in some situations it makes the most sense to me, dickenson County for example(the schools are in bad shape, Haysi is literally falling apart and part of clintwood was built in the 20s). I do agree that the money should be invested in the way that is best for the students. I think it would be a bad idea to bus students from all over Buchanan county to poplar gap, if only Hurley was closing that seems ok
  8. Sounds like its gonna be a good one. I think everyone on here enjoys your posts, we dont get too much news about football up that way
  9. I knew Grundy had alot of feeder schools (im originally from Paw Paw) although I dont know which ones remained open after Riverview opened The CFX comment was a little sarcasm, they have been planing that project for ever. I think it will be great for this area I dont mean a historical figure that is local to one town/community like Powers, more like Thomas Walker (early explorer in SWVA) or Levisa High after the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy. IF only Hurley is closed and the entire county is not consolidated then calling the school Grundy High seems ok to me becaus ethats a closing and not a consolidation You really think they would close Tazewell and send the kids to Richlands and not build a new school around Pounding Mill to serve both towns
  10. Not trying to knock Lowe but in the video he wasnt blocked at least 3-4 times. How do you not block that guy? Most were passes and the Tackle would out block on the OLB. The plays that really impressed me were the traps where he would meet the blocker head on, throw him to the ground and then make the tackle.
  11. Im no Honaker fan but that kind of thinking is what gets good teams beat!
  12. I would say take your pick from Richlands, any team that can do what they did to GC has got to have some good linemen. I cant remember #s but grundy had a couple of guys who looked solid.
  13. I could see VHS and JSB goin to the hogo, if that happens GC and Lee would almost have to join the LPD. Travel wise TW would be a good fit, in terms of competition not so much(no offense to TW, they would just have a hard time with the big schools
  14. I tend to think Region D vs Reg C and after next year there wont be any regions. The Tazewell co schools would fit well in either the hogo or mtn empire. I dont see DC in the BDD, the size difference between them and Hurley TV would be too great, same goes for GC in a district with RC or TS. I dont see the Tazewell or Richlands in the Mtn empire though for the same reasons, they are alot bigger than those schools. With the district titles in Single A having no meaning I couls see Single A doing away with districts, that would make scheduling hard for some schools and would completly do away with tradition but it could happen
  15. I would like to see pioneers or mountaineers for Dickenson co, in honor of dick colley and John Mullins (early settlers for those who dont know) and Fightin' Mountaineers or Pioneers sounds good to me! Thats my thinking Counts, I tried to put schools in districts that were geographically close and not by previous association (since so many of the schools will be "new"
  16. look it up on google maps its kinda hard to explain if you dont know much about Buch co. Basically its below Grundy and on top of a mountain
  17. whatever the name the mascot could be the Bulls!
  18. I cant agree with you there Lance. Grundy High School is for the students who live in and around Grundy, if you are pulling students from all over the county then it should be called Buchanan High or name it after a prominent figure in Buchanan countys history. If it is called Grundy High there are going to be some ill feelings toward the new school and rightfully so!
  19. Probably leave Council out, it is kinda isolated from the others. It looks like the same thing is going to happen with St. Paul in Wise County, the school is a little isolated from the others so leave it out. I could see the Coeburn kids being bused up the mountain to wise, but I dont know if the school is big enough to accomodate that many students. Same thing Lee County did with Thomas Walker Down the road if all 6 WC schools dont consolidate into 3 I could see Wise County with three schools one around Blackwood and another in Tacoma with St. Paul still left out but who knows Popular Gap is nice and has lots of room but like you said its a long way from most of the county. It would be closer to Haysi than Hurley or Oakwood. Still its probably only 35 - 40 minutes from those places, road improvements would have to be made tho
  20. it was a nice pass, I just havent seem him do it consistently. But ive only seen him twice and at the scrimmage Grundy obviously didnt have things figured out yet
  21. CFX? Now that sounds like fantasy to me lol I actually think it would be great for the area
  22. They didnt run alot of that stuff against Haysi, or at least I didnt see it. They had a height advantage over Haysi so maybe they were trying to exploit it.
  23. I thought that sounded quick but my "insider" says it will happen, The roads up there do need alot of work. They probably wont have any problem using the money as they see fit and they will get the land. The projection is 2013 but I would say 2015 is more likley.
  24. Im not saying he isint good and im not saying he couldnt hit the broad side of a barn. Im saying from my point of view he is a good QB with a big arm that can drop a deep pass in a 3 yard square box from 50+ yards but I dont think he can put the ball in a 2 foot box at 15 yards. I have seen some good QBs at Haysi and if I want to bomb the ball deep everytime I pass im taking Kelly over any that I have seen but if I want a QB to run the Offense and hit all of the passes he wouldnt be on my short list (from what ive seen, which isint alot).
  25. They do run the fade way too much, if they were running quick slants or something to set up the fade then ok but they arent. Their offense looked alot better than it did at ER, more focused, like they actually had a plan. Which you dont really have a gameplan for a schrimmage
