  1. Oak Hill 50 Bluefield 48 Bluefield to receive the ball with less than 4 minutes left in the game.
  2. This game could be huge for the Beavers if they can pull it out. They have a shot to avoid that #5 seed and a second trip to Wayne in 2 weeks.
  3. Jones has 279 total yards by himself in the first half. 4 TD (3 rushing 1 passing).
  4. This. All it takes is a little time and effort for a coach or someone on the staff to get certified in much of this this training. Like I said, Bluefield's in-house strength and conditioning program is one of the best around due to its staff and their effort to personally learn and then teach these same techniques adequately. Apparently those same ideas hold true at Salem and Christiansburg among others and its hard to prove their success on the field wrong too. A truly effective strength and conditioning program shouldn't really have to extend outside of the team weight room, much like a college program. That's where winning begins.
  5. I know that Bluefield has implemented both plyometrics and resistance training into the in-season and off-season conditioning programs in the past. I'd say that one might be able to make an argument that it has paid off. It would be smart for other coaches in the area to take initiative to learn it all themselves like Coach Simon has or bring in a certified specialist who knows what they're doing to teach the kids. On-field success and championships are won in the offseason. Bluefield has one of the top strength and conditioning programs in the region/state and its not secret why they win a lot of football games.
  6. My thoughts on the VP debate: 1.) I don't think there is a person in this world that I wouldn't love to punch right in the face more than Joe Biden. The guy is a prick and it legitimately pissed me off just looking at him last night. 2.) Once again, the moderator was terrible. That's about all I got out of the debate last night. Nothing really stands out to me because most of the time I couldn't concentrate on what was actually being said due to the distractions of points 1 and 2 (mostly 1). I'll spend the morning reading followup articles for a refresher and report back with a little more intellectual insight.
  7. Great read. My question is this though, and it doesn't really even have an answer: The surgeon professed he was a Christian but "never really held deeply religious beliefs" or anything. To me, I gather that he wasn't a "practicing" Christian and was sort of weak in faith. How/why was he afforded the opportunity to see Heaven with such doubt?
  8. I'm jumping on the O's bandwagon this postseason too. A.) Because I hate the Yankees and B.) It's a cool story. Is it blasphemous to sort of want the Nationals to win too as a Braves fan? I hate STL, Cincy, and SF and want them all to lose. I sort of like the success story and the youth that Washington has going right now too. I won't be pissed if they win it. Makes the NL East look a little bit better.
  9. No way Bourn is a Brave next season, IMO. He's arguably the best CF in baseball right now and everyone will be after him this offseason. He's going somewhere and he's getting paid. He'll be in Philly, New York, Boston, Anaheim, or anywhere else not named Atlanta that can and will afford to pay the man.
  10. I sort of like it too. Does McCann bring a better bat to the table? Yes, and a definite yes since it would be a nice lefty vs. righty matchup against Lohse. But is Ross better defensively and does he have a better arm? Yep. In a one game, winner take all matchup, I think you take all the defense you can get. You put your ace on the mound behind your best defense and hope that your offense can somehow manufacture 2-3 runs.
  11. I got an ESPN notification earlier today saying that the WC winner will play Washington, but I only glanced at it, deleted it, and now I don't know for sure, but I am almost positive that they've changed that bit up too this year. I am pretty sure that it's strictly based on seeding, no matter how the division set is up now. 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3. If Cincy beat out Washington for the #1 seed and St. Louis won the WC game then it would've been Cincy/STL too.
  12. A few thoughts about the actual game though... 1.) I don't feel as good as I probably should about having Medlen start Friday. He's been untouchable lately. My only concern is that his win streak HAS to end here sooner or later... and I pray that it isn't on Friday. Regardless, we have who want going and Hudson ready to start Game 1 of the NLDS if we make it there. 2.) We have to score early, IMO. I don't like our shot playing from behind in the 7th inning or anything like that. We've definitely got the bullpen to close should we take a lead late into the game. 3.) I really don't like the ONE play-in game. I think it should be a 3-game series, but obviously understand that's just not feasible in the playoff schedule. I guess if you don't want to be one and done then you should win the division and not even have to deal with it. I like that premise. 4.) I really hate the Cardinals.
  13. Friday just isn't in the cards (you see what I did there?) for me, but fingers crossed they win because I'd do anything to get to either ATL or DC for a NLDS game...
  14. Because they only let so many people in...
  15. Anyone else? As in you're going? It would be awesome to go but I can't swing it...
  16. What would your husband say about it though?
  17. Meanwhile in Iowa... This was apparently killed on Youth Day this past weekend. I pulled the pics off another board I visit...
  18. Pretty sure there is still a coyote bounty. Last I heard it was like $50 a coyote.
  19. I actually think your point to downplay the loss is the very reason it "hurts" for a lot of us. Of course, golf is an individual sport most of the time but there is that one time every other year these guys get to come together and as a team and compete that I think makes it much more special. You aren't playing for yourself anymore. You're playing for your coaches, teammates, and your country too. It's a unique brand of golf that I absolutely love. Individuality is great, but when you get to become a part of something so much larger I think its awesome.
  20. Are you sure you're copying the image code/location and not the web page address or something? Not trying to make you feel like an amateur or anything, I just don't know the problem honestly. Its definitely the picture code (whatever.jpg or bigballs.gif) enclosed with both a and no spaces in between. Try to paste a pic of what you want, red x or not, and I'll go in and look at your edit to see if I can find your problem.
  21. Personally, this loss hurt way more than anything that happened in or around DC this weekend.
  22. ATTN to every in this thread... When you want to post a pic do the following steps: 1.) Right-click on image and click "Copy image URL" 2.) Come here, and type the following: . 3.) ????? 4.) Profit.
  23. My thoughts so far: 1.) Keegan will be your 2030 Ryder Cup Captain. He is the future for American golf. 2.) I'd like to see Tiger sit the afternoon pairings, but I don't think they get beat around all day. 3.) Dufner is the definition of American.
  24. One time I met one and she did.
  25. I'd say a little bit of both. I'm sure the injury bug doesn't help matters with either. They were hit in the mouth by Bluefield's speed, which everyone has been since the Graham game, and they were torched by a UNC commit in GW's Ryan Switzer last week. I don't know what Beckley, Oak Hill, and Capital bring to the table this year but they historically have some quick kids too.
