According to the schedules on this board, Radford hasn't played Glenvar yet. Got them twice the last couple of weeks of the season. Radford is still undefeated, just trying to get back healthy. Glenvar has some 3 point shooters and if they get hot they can cause trouble for alot of teams, just don't think they're athletic enough for Radford or Dan River in Region C

Who knows... the document on the VHSL page says regions will be 8 teams seeded based on power points. It's the VHSL... they'll make up the rules as they go along I'm sure.
In region 2C, I was told the other night that all 13 teams will be in the regionals in a 16 team bracket with the top 3 teams getting 1st round byes. First 2 rounds at the higher seeded teams home court and the semis and finals at a yet to be determined site. Teams are seeded by power points. Radford and Dan River will probably be the top 2 teams and after that who knows.

Martinsville had to many games scheduled and had to drop one, this is the one they decided to drop. Just going by what I was told this morning.

Boy, that brings back memories. After Bassett opened the new hs in the early 80's all the big games got moved there. Remember Martinsville playing Oak Hill and Flint Hill there in the mid 80's and it being standing room only and people turned away. I think capacity was around 3000. Those Carver-DM games in the early to mid 80's were special, between the 2 schools they won 5 state championships in about an 8 year span then Magna Vista won state the 1st year after consolidation. I know the Union admin. is looking at the $ signs but I agree with BigWinners, hard to give up that home court advantage especially against a big rival.

Mavahi has all their bigs back from last year, but lost the 2 guards who did 75% of the scoring.

I was impressed with how well coached the G-men are. They don't seem to have alot of depth but I was also told they were missing 2 players last night so when they get them back that should help the depth problem. Mavahi is in for a long year. Playing a good team like Graham helps to show all your warts and we got to see them for sure. Hope we can get the other game rescheduled, would love for the Dogs faithful to get to see the G-Men in person. Good luck the rest of the year, liked your student section, wish we could get some students to come to the games.

When you've seen as many state championship caliber teams as we have seen in the Martinsville and Henry Co area you pretty much know what teams have it and which ones don't. Mhsalum and I will not blindly say the Dogs are great when they're not. This year's team has talent but they have some shortcomings also. This team will be a work in progress all year, hopefully they will get better and peak at the right time. Tough schedule will show the weak spots to be corrected. EH, don't get caught up in Ants post on the other board, he's a great fan, always at the games, just a little over zealous at times. Good luck to all the swva teams this year.

10 bucks if you go to VAPreps and tell them that Martinsville will be 4th in region C
Martinsville will be very lucky to be 4th in their regional this year. Too many questions and not enough answers for this team. If Graham is as good as advertised this year, they should beat the Dogs handily. Hopefully by the end of the year Mavahi will be competitive.

Not ineligible "players", just one player. Back up wr who played against Richlands but also got hurt on a kickoff coverage in the 4th qt. He couldn't play anymore so he goes to bball practice and said he wanted to play, we had a new AD who had just taken over the job a few weeks earlier and he started checking the eligibility of the kids who came out for bball tryouts, discovered the kid was to old and reported it.

I don't think HV has won a game. Lost the other night in ot to Franklin Co. So yeah, Abingdon has a good chance.

Was at the Byrd-Martinsville game last night. Byrd is not flashy but are fundamentally very sound. They block really well and Barham is very good. They'll run alot of Wildcat and snap the ball straight to him and let him roll. They throw the ball just enough to keep you honest. Should be a good game, Basham has some speed but overall they just have decent team speed.

First off tough loss for GC last night. Thought with that comeback at the end of regulation that y'all would pull it out in ot but sometimes things just don't work out. Still a great year with a young team. Now about Mac. I saw him play 4 times last year, once scouting the GC-Richlands game in regionals, twice against Mavahi and once against Graham. He played with a very high motor, and seemed a little high strung but not in a mean or malicious way. I never saw him engage in anything that I would say was arrogant or show boating behaviour. Only once he lost his cool in the state semis against Martinsville, but I attributed that more to GC just playing terrible and nothing going right for them that day. He is very talented and has a bright future ahead of him. If he has played his last game for GC, at least y'all have 3 years of really good memories of him. How many kids can put up 64 against a good team like DR. Heck the Dogs played them the game before and didn't score but 53 or 54 as a team. Again good luck to Mac in the future in whatever he chooses to do. Extremely talented individual.

I feel the regional championship will be at UVAW on Sat. DR is very athletic but I don't think they have enough fire power to stay with GC. Chatham is very quick but doesn't have alot of size, they've beat DR once this year and their coaches have done a great job in turning around a program that was down for years but I don't think they have anything for the Richlands bunch. This could be Swva's year to bring home a title even though RE Lee or Amelia may have something to say about that.

Game played out like alot of Bulldog games lately. Dogs run out to a 12 point lead in the 2nd quarter then DR whittled the lead down and finally got a steal and a 3 at the buzzer to take a 44-41 lead into the 4th. The the Wildcats depth took over and they pulled away for the win. Yeah no 3-peat this year but it was nice to have the opportunity. Good luck to all the teams left and hopefully the Dogs will be back next year.

Nobody would listen, Mavahi is not that strong. They are not a top 5-6 team in the state. Were up 17 at half and couldn't hold on. Glenvar has 3-4 legit 3 point shooters and they got hot in the 2nd half. Also they started putting the Dogs on the foul line, the old Jim Valvano strategy and Martinsville couldn't hit a foul shot, must have missed 6-7 the last 3 minutes. They let one get away, but all the credit to Glenvar they hung around and got the W.

Martinsville plays good defense but have a hard time scoring the bball. Teams with several good shooters tend to give them trouble (GC,Richlands,Graham?). Had alot of close games they pulled out during the regular season (PC,Bassett,Tunstall,Radford,Lee to name a few) that could have easily gone the other way. Are they good, yes, are they top 5-6 good, we'll soon find out.

Funny how people see games different. The Dogs were up 46-22 halfway thru the 3rd and started to play very loose with the ball. Looked like they lost interest. The Lang kid got hot in the 4th, he hit some really deep 3's. But with that said you never felt like the Dogs were going to lose. They don't play but about 7-8 kids anyway so that's why the starters stayed in because they had a couple of boys sick last night. And lastly just for your info, the term Mavahi has been used here since the 1940's, and is the name of the school annual, so not trying to be cool or speak a foreign language or anything like that. Help me out here mhsalum

Not many at JR last night for the 38 semis. Just barely over a 100 people there for the Mavahi-Giles game, a little larger crowd for JR-Glenvar game. Would expect a little larger crowds next week but as you said all that is a 4 team tourney for seeding. Seems crazy you could lose 2 straight games next week at James River and still theoretically win the state championship.
-
RiverRat, have you seen Martinsville this year? Just wondering what you've seen that I haven't after watching them 19-20 times this year.
-
Why even play the championship game and risk injury when it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. In 38 Mavahi has to beat Glenvar to get the 1 seed and in 37 Dan River and Chatham play Friday with the winner get the 1 seed. At least the tournaments have some meaning.

Probably not

Martinsville is not that strong this year.

I guess things are different down here since the 5 conference teams are in 3 districts. Martinsville being in the Piedmont only plays the other 4 teams once during the regular season so they seed by those. Giles plays Floyd in the 4-5 game Monday with the winner playing the Dogs Wed at JR. James River plays Glenvar in the 2-3 game on Wed with the winners playing Friday for the #1 seed from Conf 38. #2 seed will probably have to travel to Dan River to play. They hadn't lost a home game in about 4-5 years until Halifax Co won in Ringgold last week. Ought to be a fun these next 2-3 weeks
Is Glenvar good?

On the 3 Rivers district site it's showing Radford at 14-0 and Glenvar at 10-4 with losses to Northside(twice), Covington and Staunton River. As sixcat stated they play on 1-26 and then again on 2-6
