  1. i was wondering if they would do anything about the feild house. with the new turf and new lights(both of witch I whole heartedly support) and no decent place to dress ,shower or keep your belongings is like putting a 500 dollar saddle on a 5 dollar mule. it works but people laugh at you
  2. did grundy forget their headgear against tazewell or what? how did grundy spank grahmn and almost lose to tazwell when grundy spanked grahmn?
  3. asa is a first year wrestler with a ton of heart. he is giving up nearly 20lbs in his weight class at 103 that is nearly 20% of his body weight.how many 160 pounders would be competitave wrestling against a 185? my prediction is that his growth over the next year will make him a dominant wrestler in his division ,if his current work ethic continues he will be hard to handle
  4. you have figured it out! taxwell county has the means to make the much needed improvements to the school facilitiees.they just do not have the will. with a 1.3 million$$$$ county budget surpluss you would think they would filter some of that into to the school construction fund and build grahmn a feild and richlands a feild house. of coarse that probably would come out of the take care of your buddy fund and they couldnot have that
  5. are you coming to take some pics big d? the matmen could use a little press too
  6. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] we need turf it richlands [/ QUOTE ] You don't need it, you want it. RHS did pretty dang well without turf this season. [/ QUOTE ]the "need it" vs."want it" debate is useless at this point.if you look at it from a merely high school perspective it could be a "want" but if you look at the big picture and factor in the jv & eigth grade, plus the peewee, midget, and smurf teams ,a couple of seven on seven tourneys ,and not to mention that dreaded french football league that is infiltrating down from the cheese and wine clubs, then there is easily in excess of 100 games played at the "earnie "each year. that appears to clasify as a "need", not only for the school but for the entire community.
  7. EMATS is on school board agenda for tonight.they are requesting permission to install feild turf at RHS. the school board must approve for that to be done.hopefully their less than be desired performance in the past will be no reflection of how hey will handle this (more than generous)offer.EMATS had also offered big$$$$$$ to help build a feild house about two years ago & also made the same offer to honaker high. russell cnty. took them up on the offer and within a matter of a few months had it built and dedicated (against richlands).so i must say that if there is a way to screw up this offer the board will find it.that seems to be the one thing they are really good at.
  8. my understanding is that if the players were depending on the school, school board, or vhsl then they are all SOL. fortunately our community is very generous and takes care of its kids so the money is being raised thriugh private contributions. that being said i cant imagine why anyone not contributing fiancially should care who gets rings. this is a great accomplishment for our team but also our community, who has worked very hard in seeing that our boys have what they need to be competitive. why tarnish this great achivement with a who gets what sqwabble? imo the varsity should get their ring the jv should get their commemorative ring and the cheerleaders should get a ladies commemorative ring also.for that matter there could be a 12th man ring ,available for anyone who wanted to buy one,(good fundraiser).so relax everybody and enjoy the occasion, besides its christmas!!!
  9. dont worry dog regardless of who lines up behind center richlands is thick with talented young receivers
  10. its a tough call for me. an all state reciever is no good if the qb cant get him the ball. whereas austin is a threat everytime he touches the ball running or throwing. the big question will be how much stronger, faster, bigger elswic gets in the off season. he shows poise, makes good reads and has a nice "touch" on the ball. his over all strength and ability to run around or over people may the question, and that can be answerwed in the weight room.
  11. [ QUOTE ] for comment [/ QUOTE ]that looks like the stripper that olfish had in the back of the pinto, bet he got his fifty cents worth
  12. dont forgret to leave the press gate open so the tunnel rats can sneek in!!!
  13. [ QUOTE ] "Remember guys, this is a classy affair on Saturday...I want everyone to wear their Sunday best...my reputation is on the line" [/ QUOTE ]cant wait to sink into them buzzard gizzards but if that guy shows up i'm leaving!!!
  14. [ QUOTE ] This is true BigD. We loved playin teams like Salem because of the history there. We never heard of the schools we are playin now... [/ QUOTE ]thats true Bran but i bet those schools have heard of you guys!!!!
  15. crawl back up on your barstool sandy and have another one richlands would relish the opportunity to play those teams. not because we think we can beat them but because they are quality teams and that make for some quality fri. night entertainment.and we khow our boys would give em all they could handle
  16. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The state would go broke after paying all the travel reinbursments. Some of the small schools would be in a money hardship having to .pay it out and wait to the end of the school year to be repaid by the league. Way too much territory to cover in Virginia. What they have now is not perfect, but it could get alot worse. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, its not perfect and could be worse...what I've posted is a good example of that. I only wish the VHSL had enough common sense to see that the was the Divisions are created is not "equal" throughout the state. I'm a firm believer that teams of the same size should be competing against one another...with the current Divisional breakdown, that just doesn't happen. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly! you have schools like Grundy, Tazewell, and Graham all having to beat teams like Richlands in the playoffs. Richlands has almost double the students that either Graham, Tazewell or Grundy have. Its hard to beat someone who has such an advantage in the playoffs every year. This used to not be a problem until 2 yrs ago but I guess since Tazewell can't win it all in Div 3 maybe we should take the same road that other area teams have taken and drop to a lower Division bc we cant win the won we should be in. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, Tazewell should take the road that one other area team in particular has taken, i'm not gonna name names but since this team has dropped to a lower division two years ago they have been in the state finals both years. So apparantly its a good idea. Fair?? Not in the least but hey its all about winning titles. Tazewell should drop to Division 2 [/ QUOTE ] When the enrollment at Richlands (then the smallest school in Region IV, Division 4) dropped below that of Martinsville (then the largest school in Region IV, Division 3) the VHSL moved them both. Richlands and Martinsville had no say in the matter. Next year Richlands will be only the 5th largest school in Region IV, Division 3. [/ QUOTE ]thanks big d for saying what was on my mind. richlands has no say in stepping down in divisions. the powers "that be" determine that. i'm sure that there was noone more disappointed than those of us at richlands about that change. it is however, a shame that there are three very good fball programs in the SWD that must eliminate each other, and that change denied tazewell county the outside shot of two sets of rings coming home. that being said there are always going to be good teams playing and eliminating other very good cross county rivals no matter where the teams are geographically.we all are stuck in d-3 until someone's enrollment numbers change enough to warrant a change, up or down, and i wish people would guit whining about richlands "playing down" because its simply not true.
  17. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!CJ and good luck with all your future plans. we are all very proud of you.

  20. unbeleavable hit! the goins kid really showed some backbone to get back in play as hard as he did, even to take another punt and advance it.as cola says "thats character".congrats shane on the hit of the year.maybe someone who videoed the game could put it up on a link for the unbelievers to see!!
  21. awesome! the storm train should roll through about 11-11:30 we'll sneak in and set up before they know what hit them
  22. [ QUOTE ] I hope we can get in there early, we are planning on a 1 hour pregame show...maybe I should call Dennis tomorrow.. [/ QUOTE ]if you guys make it early see if you cant leave a gate open. the tunnel rats need to have time to set up 4 pre game intro!!
  23. [ QUOTE ] Richlands Scoring Defense- 90 points, 7.5 points/game Grahams Scoring Defense- 167 points, 13.92 points/game [/ QUOTE ]grahmns defense avg. 4 qtrs, richlands def avg.2 qtrs. in theory richlands would have averaged 15 ppg had they played 4 qtrs. (just another moot point)
