Someone told me Groves came back, any truth?

I think they got a new coach last year, for some reason i remember hearing that.

Don't know much about either team, can someone give any details of both?

Who is the coach, give us some details about him.

Rumor I hear is Mitchell might not be there at all.

I would think G.W. and R.R. would be front runners. With either P.H. or N.W finishing 3rd and Holston last.

Jim Dotson, didn't he coach at Norton back in the day and then coach at Uva-Wise or something?

Hey don't know why you would say stuff like that about the guy. Looking on here he won 7 games this year and 4 games the year before at Ervinton High School. When was the last time Ervinton had a winning season or made the playoffs. Must know something huh?

The coach from Ervinton what is his name? I don't know much about him but from the outside looking in it looked like he did a good job at Ervinton. Didn't he take them from worst to first? Where is he at now?

Campbell is the one you are referring to Anthony i believe is his name. He works a lot of games with Jeter.

Bristol Herald Courier Holston High School’s new head football coach is a familiar face. Jason Matlock, a 2001 Holston graduate, was named as the new football coach at his alma mater on Monday night during the Washington County school board meeting. Matlock takes over for Mike Williams, who resigned in November after posting a 13-47 record in six seasons. "Well, first of all I’m excited about the opportunity," Matlock said. "I think there is a lot of good kids there and there’s a good structure there to be successful." A three-sport star during his career at Holston, Matlock was a quarterback for the Cavaliers. He later played baseball at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and had been serving as an assistant coach at Abingdon. "To be able to go back to the high school I graduated from, it’s definitely going to be exciting," Matlock said. He will finish the year at Abingdon and will serve as an assistant baseball coach this spring. His younger sister, Beth, is the head volleyball coach at Patrick Henry. The 24-year-old Matlock will be one of the youngest head coaches in Southwest Virginia. "It’s something I’ve always wanted to do," Matlock said of being a head coach. "I’m thankful the opportunity came about and that the powers to be had the confidence in me. If they have narrowed it down to three, is the Castlewood coach one of the three? He did a good job turning it around over there, i would think he would be an excellent choice.

Both of those to Holston?? Why would Scammell not want Grundy?

Would Scammell (Castlewood) not be a front runner for the job. He took Castlewood to one of their best seasons ever and is a Grundy Alumni that had much success while there.

Only time i've seen Vikings have success moving the ball on the ground is when they try to spread people out while in the gun. They have had very little success running the ball under center this year. They tried it early against Norton and got stuffed. Clintwood did a good job of stopping it, P.V.'s run against clintwood were out of the gun when Clintwood was on its heels waiting for the pass. I think Giles will have the athletes to contend with the Vikings, i also think Ragsdale uses his offense to keep the Vikings off the field.

I felt Clintwood did a good job of pressuring Mitchell early in the game and it cause him to rush his throws. Clintwoods DB's did o.k. early and you should expect Giles to be more athletic than what Clintwood was, plus Giles has played against Williams Campbell this year and they may have lost but it is not like they have not seen the spread.

From what i understand on kickoffs Giles puts it in the endzone, can't return those in high school.

Independence had the nations current longest winning streak, but the all-time win streak is De La Salle High School in Concord, California with 151.

P.V.'s line is not that big at all. I thought Clintwood did a good job early of showing that on both sides of the ball. If one had to say that P.V. had a weak spot it would probably be the line. They have great receivers, good back, and a sensational QB, but the line is not that good on either side of the ball.
