  1. The Falcons have offered Mike Smith, DC of the Jac'ville Jags the HC job. What's interesting is he (Smith) played LB at East TN State University from 1978-81...lettered 4 yrs. for the Bucs. He is also the bro.-in-law of former Baltimore HC Billick. According to a local poll in today's AJC ppl were asked if they agreed with the hire...following is the vote: 22% right decision 35.5 disagreed 42.5 undecided
  2. .....did he attend the Scott Boras' school on "how to bleed a turnip"????????
  3. ....saw in today's AJC...the Lassiter job is being offered to the OC formerly with Hoover High in AL ( according to report he was prev. a HC before the Hoover stint)...school board voting on it this wk.
  4. [ QUOTE ] The Carolina fans of the board will enjoy this article from Adam Lucas, one of the best beat writers for the Heels. http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/011708aaa.html Lucas: The Good Old Days Jan. 17, 2008 ATLANTA--Let's pause for a second. Take a moment and think about your very favorite time in your history as a Carolina fan. Not just one game, but an era. There had been just enough heartbreak in the mid- to late-1980s to make you appreciate all that success--. [/b [/ QUOTE ] B R since you posted this...got me to thinking about the mid 1980's and the NC team....specifically, the 1984 East Regional that was in ATL at the Omni. I was in attendance at that tournament (I didn't live in ATL at that time). As best as I can remember it and with a little research, (Al Gore hadn't really developed the internet fully at that time,lol,).... I tried to jog my memory with specifics. UNC w/Dean Smith as coach came in as the #1 seed w/ a player named Michael Jordan, (some of you have probably heard the name, lol) also, Sam Perkins and Brad Dougherty, etc. UVA was also in the tourn. as the #7 seed w/Terry Holland as coach w/ Olden Polyniece, Ricky Stokes, and a player from Princeton WV, Jim Miller, etc. The ppl I were with were there to cheer for UNC and I was there supporting UVA...especially Jim Miller, though, I didn't personally know him, but was giving it my all for a "neighbor" of close proximity and a state university. Well, to shorten this memory.....UNC lost in the opening round to Indiana. Snidely Whiplash (Bobby (now Bob) Knight) beat Dudley Dooright (Dean Smith). A freshman named Steve Alford poured it on at the last to preserve the win for the Hoosiers. UVA went on to win the tournament and advanced to the Final Four losing to Houston and Akeem in OT and Geo.town w/Ewing beating Houston and taking it all. Didn't know it at the time but that was the last college game for Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins. One last memory of that tourn.....we stayed at the same hotel as UNC across the street from Lenox Mall. The hotel had a Sunday brunch and we were down there when the UNC team walked in to get something to eat. They were sitting at the table next to us and my vivid memory of that is looking at Sam Perkins and thinking....wow, that's one tall fellow....also, my next thought....wow, some really great suits on these guys....definitely custom tailored ... really nice fabric. Of course, when, I look back at it now....I realize I saw Michael Jordan play his last college game. Thanks BR for the article and jogging my memory.

[/ QUOTE ] OH NO....are you saying....that bias exists in the media/medium....gosh darn....I thought everyone played "fair and square." I've got a lot to learn..... [/ QUOTE ] No, Schmitt said that...I was just implying that it shouldn't be bias. [/ QUOTE ] ...just my "weak" attempt at being sarcastic.....lol

  7. [ QUOTE ] you were looking for swGasports.com. its an understandable mistake. [/ QUOTE ] Nope....just trying to broaden the horizon....could be some local asst. or hc coaches that monitor/read this site that might be interested; also, just for sheer sports reading ..... coaching is NOT an easy job (all the hrs.invested vs. the money earned and reduced personal time) as indicated by this report of the wide vacancies.
  8. [ QUOTE ] What other schools are looking for a new Head Football Coach? [/ QUOTE ] Here's the GA list: List: Georgia's head football coaching vacancies By TODD HOLCOMB The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 01/21/08 By my count, there have been 51 openings for head coaches among GHSA schools since the season ended, and only nine have been filled officially. A few others have a choice in mind but haven't made an announcement. Not all vacancies are official, either. Since the GHSA and the state board of education doesn't keeps track of this, any list of job openings is unofficial. JOBS FILLED Allatoona: Hired Gary Varner to start program. Consider this quote to the Grand Rapids Press from former Kell coach Irv Sigler, who said 14-hour days were common and ultimately not worth it for him: “Coaching down here [in Georgia] is a much different proposition. Our program [Kell] isn’t funded by the school, so the coaches are responsible for everything … from A to Z, and that includes cutting fields and striping fields. I have a great school and I love my kids and assistant coaches, but it got to the point where I felt I couldn’t do that and be a good husband and father at the same time.†Sigler has returned to coach a school in Michigan, where the job description is more reasonable, he said.
  9. [ QUOTE ] I think we are in for a great game with two very good teams...I think it's going to be a lot closer than people think. [/ QUOTE ] I second that......
  10. [ QUOTE ] Giants win...AB had an awesome game...I'm really proud of the way he played...and don't forget I called the OT yesterday...lol. [/ QUOTE ] I was pulling for the Pack and yelling for AB when he was running the ball.....one crazy fan I was....lol. The Giants played the better game and deserved to win. I think every pro fan except the New England area will be pulling for the Giants in the Bowl. Did you see the tv shots of Archie....trying so hard to watch but not being able to endure the last mins. w/o sometimes looking away.....a typical parent reaction be it little league, high school, college or pro. This area should be proud of AB and all he's accomplished this year.
  11. Just wanted to go on record that I am rooting for Ahmad Bradshaw, a local, from SWVA/Tazewell Co./Graham to have a great run producing game today. I'm still cheering for the Pack but I won't be disappointed to see a local young man "do his thing."
  12. Posted January 19, 2008 from Packers site Postseason Insider: Sleveless tradition runs deep on line Chatter No matter how cold it gets on Sunday, the Packers' offensive linemen won't be wearing sleeves, a tradition that at least dates to center Frank Winters in the 1990s. As a rookie, tackle Chad Clifton remembers getting the cold shoulder after asking Winters about wearing sleeves. "I might have asked him, but it's like, 'What about sleeves, you know, it's 10 degrees right now. Why are we going out there in just T-shirts and our shoulder pads?'" Clifton said. "And, it's just the way it is." Now, Clifton gives that same bit of advice to younger offensive linemen. "It's like, 'Hey, we don't wear sleeves here, so get used to it,'" he said. Clifton said he dresses the same whether the temperature is 80 or zero. "There's really no change," he said. "We live in Green Bay year-round so we're kind of accustomed to the weather. Me, personally, as far as any equipment changes, there'll be none. We really don't wear the thermals and all that stuff as an offensive line. We just kind of go out there." The no-sleeves policy may be a sign of toughness, but Clifton was asked whether it was a smart thing to do. "Well, Mike Eayrs (Packers director of research & development) tells us every Thursday, he gets up in front of the team and speaks to us," Clifton said. "He says, 'You know, nobody's going to go to the hospital from the weather, so you guys will live it through it.' It's a mental thing. You've just got to be tough."
  13. Thought you might be interested in this read, local school in Gwinnett Co. about 10 miles from where I live: Buford having trouble finding opponents By TODD HOLCOMB The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 01/18/08 Buford outscored its opponents 681-66 last season and won the Class AA championship game 50-0. Now, the Wolves aren't finding opponents eager to play them. Buford coach Jess Simpson has lined up Class AAA powers Thomson and North Hall for his first two games for the 2008 season, but he's got an open date Sept. 12 or Sept. 19, or possibly Oct. 4 with some juggling. "We're having a hard time filling it," Simpson said. "Obviously, having a lot of success can be a hindrance." Simpson says he has discussed having games with Ware County, the Class AAAA runner-up, Byrnes High of Duncan, S.C., and the McCallie School of Chattanooga. McCallie is out, but the other two remain possibilities, Simpson said. The coach also is thinking about calling Brunswick, a Class AAAA playoff team that needs games, but he is concerned about taking a long trip to the Georgia coast. Buford traveled to Ohio last season and defeated Grove City High 34-7. "At this point, we don't want to drive six hours to play a high school football game; it's not what's best for our kids and community," Simpson said. "But if that's what we have to do to fill a 10-game schedule, that's what we've got to do." Buford would prefer playing a larger school for the better competition, but there is little to gain for Class AAAA or AAA teams to play Buford. "I'd feel the same way," Simpson said. "If you lose to a AA team, you don't look good, and if you win, you're supposed to." Buford's game at Thomson, scheduled for Aug. 29, will be the first between the schools. Thomson was 9-1-1 in 2007 and won the Class AAAA state title in 2002. Buford will play North Hall at home on Sept. 5. North Hall was 13-1 last season and finished No. 3 in the final Class AAA rankings. The teams have played six times, but not since 1977. Schedules are due to the Georgia High School Association on March 15.
  14. [/ QUOTE ] NY gets its fair share of Artic air and crap that rolls in off the northern atlantic...plus...you have to figure they are use to smelling NJ...so that has to give them some sort of strategic edge...lol. [/ QUOTE ] You're so right about that...was in NYC in Jan. about 3 yrs. ago....doing the sightseeing thing (ground zero WTC was a life reflecting moment). Decided to take the double decker bus tour....they asked if we wanted to ride on top....I told them they were crazy....only ppl from MN would ride up there in that kind of weather. Now, I'll give you it was VERY cold that weekend but the weather in the open spaces in WI is IMO more "brisk".....you had the tall bldgs. blocking alot of the wind in NYC. The smell from NJ wasn't evident on that cold day....probably takes some much warmer weather to get the right mix going...lol.
  15. ....heard today on local sports show....he's up visiting the former coach of WVU at the big house this weekend....
  16. The temp is going to be ZERO around game time....the wind chill will make it like 30 below. You have to be acclimated to weather of that kind, as best you can. I've been in Wis-CON-sin during Dec and Jan.....you're all bundled up and shiverrrrrring....and they're kinda laughing at you....it's just another colder than usual day for them. I'm not saying the Giants don't have cold weather but unless you've experienced true Artic air....it can actually be mind numbing. I would say this weather will give the edge to Green Bay....... that stadium is gonna be rocking with ice fishing fanatics, everyday ppl (some nuts even shirtless...okay, maybe for awhile)....families that live this kind of weather.
  17. By all accounts/reports this "dancer" had very obvious issues.....your job as prosecuting atty. is to sort out all of the garbage/rumors/facts.I'm guessing he didn't do very well in law school or was absent alot when this was being discussed/taught. "If the glove doesn't fit".... could aptly be applied in this case.
  18. ....my reason for using the word greedy...greed for his own self promotion....
  19. There's alot of labels you can attach to the Duke fiasco....but a greedy caucasian prosecuting atty. was the "wolf in sheep's clothing" in this case.
  20. Turmoil was the name of the game going on at Arkansas. Nutt had lost the support of his fan base after Malzahn, OC, and Mustain left, plus, couple others. A nasty email from a family friend of Nutt's sent to Mustain before he transferred didn't help either. You're talking about a young kid, highly recruited by all, choosing his state university...playing as a true freshman in 8 games...winning all of them...being benched after throwing an int. in a game ...and never regaining his starting job. Wow, that would be demoralizing to a pro...let on a young kid that was successfully doing what he was recruited to do. Now, whether, USC was the right choice for him...who knows....but, I'm sure, he'll be given a chance to compete....that's all you can ask. Just as Mallet transferring to Arkansas doesn't guarantee he'll start....it's the same for Mustain....time will tell for both.
  21. Favre is a true "throw back" of the ole great QB's. He's almost "kid" like in his approach...while Manning and Brady are, in my opinion, so "business suit attired" like in their approach. I'm not sure we'll ever see a QB in the mold of "da ole man" Favre again. The maturation of very successful pro QB's today is a business....the game has become a business....but, it's nice to see the "fun" aspect that Favre still brings to the game.
  22. ....do you think Petrino will be around after Mallet becomes eligible, since, longevity is not a common thread in his resume???? LOL ....I think Mallet chose Arkansas b/c it's closer to home/TX.
  23. .....da Pack....brats for everyone.
  24. [ QUOTE ] ps: you guys from grundy need to learn how to spell "principle" its not "princable" [/ QUOTE ] ....actually, it's principal...head of a school or director
  25. ....great photo of you 7....what class do you ride/compete in....????? lol
