Bruins hired Eddie Sloss as the new coach. For those who don't know, he was Carroll County's coach.

He stepped down in December to "spend more time with family." Guess he changed his mind. Not sure I like that hire for the Bruins.

Also Sloss was a former Indian player who started both ways on  the 89 state championship team .  Also has spent time in B-burg, C-burg, and Auburn as an asst coach. Blacksburg kid, Blacksburg job as it should be. As for the record at Carroll , they had no business playing a River Ridge schedule , the 3 Rivers is no slouch but  they will do better there.

    Technically you just contradicted yourself...

"I have nothing against BBurg...I don't like their arrogant coach."

That is the textbook definition of contradiction lol. If you don't like their coach, you DO have something against them.

no it isn't , he isn't Blacksburg,  he works there .  Say I don't like  ESPN does that mean I don't like you ?????????????????

If Richlands keys on Beck then Tiquest Terry, Noah Ramsey, and Thomas Coffey will light them up in the secondary. Beck is not the best player on the team, but if he gets past the line of scrimmage and sees daylight then he's gonna turn on the jets and smoke everyone. As far as their qb goes, he cannot run at all but he throws bullets and when you have 3 really good receivers with an accurate qb, and a lightning fast running back you better have a special defense if you plan on holding them under 30 points.

Actually Grant can run and run very well, he just had all night to throw the football and didn't have to run. He had 1 rush for 7 yards.  Ask your friends from Glenvar  how he ran against them.  As for receivers lets mention  Cole Epperly , Hudson, Babcock , Stranaland, and VanGilder.  The Burg  had 8 kids with catches Friday night. And that's without any passes to  Beck.

Statistics fully support what Wells tried to do last year.  The only problem is, statistics doesn't account for the severe risk for little reward of that strategy.

statistics are for the media and message board junkies. Only 2 really count Ws and Ls

Blacksburg definitely improved after game 5 last season but so did Giles. A few position changes completely changed the single wing attack. Not saying that Giles would've beaten Bburg later in the season, but I think it would've been another game that came down to the last few minutes... but anyways, last season is over and while I'm a train wreck about this Friday, I'm still excited!!

Its always an exciting game in the Across the Mountain Annual Slobberknocker  Showdown Wonder how far down 460 parking will be this year ?. Onward Indians   Go Big Red

Thad took over a Blacksburg team that hadn't won a playoff game since 2002 and led them to a state title. The early season woes are partly to blame with the onside/going for it constantly. That's very prevalent in the film. However, it seems the longer I get into the  season, the more players roles start to get defined, and that seems to happen.

I wouldn't hate on a coach that had the testicular fortitude to try something new. It didn't work, but his kids seemed to buy in. And starting with that Pulaski game, this looks like a different team.

you can call it testicular fortitude and I can call it a brain fart and we would  both be right........

  7. Looking forward to our annual slobberknocker.  I hate this is the 1st game of the season since its my favorite on the schedule.   The only game of the season I root against  Big Red. Heres to a great injury free  game for both my favorite teams.

All that stuff was just showing the arrogance of the bburg coach...and it wasn't all him turning the season around it was the older bburg coaches telling wells we can win doing that stupid crap...so give the long time assistants more credit....THEY turned your season around

I've watched bburg scrimmage with Northside and WOW...players are so arrogant this year...something I NEVER saw out of a Dave Crist led team...all goes back to the man in charge

Oh well see ya Friday night bburg people

preaching to the choir ;) notice I said coaching not coach

  9. Hey Ryan , while you have the film out how about a couple stats for me. 1: How many onside kicks did B-burg do and give Giles possession at  mid field or better?  2: How many times did they go for it on 4 down and fail giving Giles field position? 3:  How many kids did you see going both ways for B-burg ?  4 : How many times did B-burg punt ?  This  post isn't  taking anything away from a  good Giles team, just stating what was taken away from a good B-burg team for a half a season.  I still firmly believe that the improvement  at mid season wasn't the kids but the coaching giving the kids a chance to play football.
