I am pretty sure in '87 Marion actually had a goat at the playoff game against Tazewell. I have known about that since then, but for some reason I remember seeing the goat and asking what the heck that was about!

We had some fun playing in those games! The lack of discipline by some sure made us look pretty bad though. The talent level of some of those guys was unbelievable none the less. I am glad I was able to play along side some of the Graham, Bluefield, and Mt View guys. There were a couple of those guys that had enough athletic ability to play at a much higher level.

So, who will make some noise this year? Grundy lost some upper weights, who will fill those spots? Who are the newcomers to all the area programs? Any wrestlers to watch?

Isn't it amazing how Richlands has had so many different QBs that have done well under Coach Mance? They just keep sticking bodies in there and they keep producing. I for one am very impressed with that. Year after year, no matter what, they have a solid QB. And for those who will jump at the transfer issue, those kids still have to learn a new system and that just proves my point even more. Good luck to both teams Friday night and I hope everyone comes out healthy.

I watched a special on National Geographic a few nights ago about the timeline of events. I don't think I have ever been so emotionally effected over something that didn't directly involve me. All of those emotions came back, it was crazy how it felt like it had just happened a few months ago. I will never forget that day and I will make sure my children and grandchildren don't either. I agree! Stevie was the best I have seen on D. I was thinking Quentin or Jessee Davis on O. Jessee could do it all, run pass, defense. One of the best ever athletes around here. My earlier picks were more recent and geared to help this team as the topic said.

Really?? You said the other day that Tazewell was much improved, and Blacksburg would have been 0-10 last year if they hadn't beaten Tazewell. They are both 0-2 so far this year. I'm just curious about your reasoning here.

I believe I would have to pick some Linemen for Tazewell this year. I think they have some skill, just need some linemen on both sides of the ball. If we aren't going back too far I would start with Jake Evans and Jarred Burton. Both very good on both sides of the ball. If we were going back all-time, that list would drastically change!!

In Tazewell County, if you start at a school entering 9th grade you can attend any school you wish. If you transfer after you have attended one of the three High schools however, you have to provide proof of residency. It happens more than people realize. Just wait until one of the High Schools fail to meet state standards and the students are allowed to transfer for academics. There is an article in the BDT today about Bluefield Intermediate and their situation.

They have a lot of work to do and alot of maturing. Coach is doing a great job so far. Now if he can get the kids to buy into offseason workouts, there will be a huge improvement in the future. It has to be a culture change here in Tazewell. Not just football, but every sport, and especially in the school. A winning football team can make that happen soon. If you haven't been around THS in the last 10 years, you can't grasp how bad it really is.

Good points, but Tazewell also turned the ball over and they resulted in Graham tds. That game was in question until late. Bluefield did score points, after some pretty good special teams play, or should I say poor special teams play by Princeton? How many onsides kick did they recover? Something like 5 or 6. Anyway, I just have a feeling it might get a little ugly early and often. I may make the trip up to see just how good both teams are.

Back to the topic...Richlands wins by at least 3 TDs. I don't think Richlands has play to their full potential yet. I also think the Gmen faithful may be putting too much stock in the 2 wins they have so far. Tazewll is 0-13, and Princeton scored a bunch of points on Bluefield too. I guess we will see Friday night. Good luck to both teams and hopefully everyone stays healthy.
