  1. Twin Valley's girls beat HURLEY not Haysi.
  2. Haysi won but it was by only about 4 points.
  3. Do some research!! Cumberland District Ervinton St. Paul Castlewood Twin Springs Rye Cove Thomas Walker Lee High is in the Clinch Mountain District D2 school Honaker is in the Black Diamond District D2 school
  4. I want to add......if it is in the rule book shouldn't it be called? If it is not important, then the rule should be amended or removed. No one calls 3 seconds anymore, but it is still in the rule book.
  5. The problem is NOT ALL REFS call the calls. Some will call hand checking and others will not. Some call reaching in and some don't. Some call over the back and some don't. That is the problem. All people are asking for is consistency. This year has had some of the worst officiating I have seen in all of the 34 years I have been watching high school basketball. A lot of the officials want to be the ones who decide the game. I don't mean a few, I mean A LOT. It gets really bad when an official is standing right beside of a blatant charging foul when the defensive player is in front of the offensive player and the offensive player flings an arm in front of himself and pushes the defensive player out of bounds. The official is looking right at the players and utters "I didn't see it." or "It's not my call." That is all a bunch of bs right there. The rules about girls headbands and color of their bras underneath their jerseys is stupid too. Some officials say something about it and others don't. I know last year when those rules went into effect one of the officials was a real smart aleck about it. But he wouldn't call traveling or hand checking.
  6. It takes a TEAM to win and that is definitely what happened tonight with Hurley. All who played gave it all they had and some unsung heroes stepped up and played their hearts out.
  7. I agree with you Tank. Austin is by far the best all-around player in the BDD. He is a versatile player on offense and defense.
  8. I have watched all of these boys play since middle school ball and I have to say that I think Austin is a much better all around player than Tyler. POY shouldn't always be the high scorer. It should be the player who is a team player/leader AND scorer. Austin is all of that. The funny thing is........I am not from Hurley!
  9. The 7-5 record is not just BDD play. All they have to do is have more wins than any other BDD team to win the BDD. Honaker can control the pace of the game. I think Hurley may have gone into the game last night with the mindset that they would have an easy win. It didn't help that the older Cooper boy had sat out 2 games. Sometimes it is harder to get straight back into game play after that. It looks like a lot of close games have been played in the BDD, so who knows what the next couple of weeks hold. That is what keeps it interesting.
  10. They should still get a forfeit and the team that traveled to VA High to play them should get to count it as a win. They at least showed up. I have seen Richlands play this year, as well. I have not seen a cohesive team. I have seen a lot of rough, dirty play from them. They don't seem to have made the transition from football to basketball yet.
  11. My opinion, Richlands should have to take a forfeit. They knew, they just didn't want to play or had players sick/injured and didn't think they could win. So take the loss anyway.
  12. The fact is Hurley won, Haysi lost. Haysi has gone for years playing teams that have not had a winning season and have won those games with big margins. That is what people refer to as running up the score and yes Colley has done that. I have watched Haysi football for many years and have seen it done. Other coaches, at other schools, do it too. But Colley gets blamed for it the most. Truth or sour grapes, I am not sure. Haysi is having an off year but they have not given up. They have things to work on and will try to do so. I am not a coach or parent of a player. I am a fan. From what I understand, the players who are injured are still practicing and planning to play Friday night. Most of the injuries are re-injuries. The one who was med-flighted out had no broken bones or serious internal injuries. At least, that is what I heard.
  13. This wouldn't happen to be the same person who officiated a basketball game at TV against Haysi would it? That guy flipped off some of the fans in Haysi's bleachers. He is not allowed to officiate any Haysi games. Caught on video.
  14. Yes, it would be great if all schools had one of those fields. But, who is going to pay for them. I know Mr. Bowerbank is not going to be able to help every school in SWVA get one. Bigger communities like Abingdon have bigger companies and better economic situations than Buchanan and Dickenson counties. I know the football fields in Buchanan and Dickenson are worse than Abingdons, so if it is based on need, they should get them. But it is not based on need, it is based on finances and who will donate the money, materials and manpower. If you really want the fields and can get the funding, then that is great. But if you can't, then make whatever improvements you can afford and enjoy Friday night football and support your local teams, not their fields.
