  1. So when is SWVA signing day in Richlands? I may get burned at the stake for saying this but the BBWM(miss Leonard's Losers) might should recruit coaches instead of players. It just seems like the teams come up short in the playoffs and it ain't from lack of talent on the field. Feels like Marty Shottenheimer is coaching. Just saying and I apologize if I offend any parent or active player.
  2. I would like to bowl more but it's a damn hour drive to Claypool Hill or Pikeville just to get to bowl. I miss the bowling alley at Vansant. I use to go there a lot plus had my kids birthday parties at Sandy Valley.
  3. Belfry 43 Lexington Catholic 0 Final I have went a few times to the Cam. It's a really good place to watch a game and really good environment.
  4. Belfry is up 36-0 at halftime over Lexington Catholic. Game is tonight due to WKU game yesterday.
  5. Belfry High School in KY is playing for their 5th State Title this weekend. Belfry is about a 50 minute to hour drive from Hurley. Head Coach Phillip Haywood of Belfry, goes for win 403 this weekend in the 3A State Title game vs. Lexington Catholic. Coach Haywood is 402-128 for his career at Prestonsburg and Belfry. This makes his 11th trip to the state finals with a record of 4-6 in the finals. Belfry beat Pikeville (34-8), Johnson Central (41-0) and Knoxville Catholic (38-14) and those 3 teams are playing for state titles with Pikeville already winning the 1A KY State title Thursday night. Belfry's only lost was to Cabell Midland which has roughly 1900 kids compared to 700 kids or so for Belfry. This makes Belfry's 6th straight title game appearance. Just a bunch of mountain boys running the wing-t that is coached by a legend and one hell of a fine man.
  6. It's already on the map. You got Ralph's country club. lol
  7. Uncle Rico can throw that ball over them mountains!!!
  8. Belfry Ky 42 Corbin 14 6:09 left 4th quarter
  9. Spurlin, #44 for Galax, is their best player. Spurlin is the leader on offense and defense and he will knock the snot bubbles out of you. Galax has a strong line and are very fundamentally sound but Burton should be able to match up with Galax's line. Harris is a good back but may be hobbled because he got up gimpy in the 4th quarter against Hurley. I think he got a high ankle sprain last night in the late 4th quarter but #1 Peoples that replaced Harris is a good running back. Galax can pass when needed....screen pass...out and up nothing major. Hurley was really aggressive and loaded the box. I know that Harris had good yardage last night but he got most of that on 2 runs. Hurley got Galax out of rhythm and didn't really establish their offense. Galax had a lot of 3 and out. I think I would go with Galax by a score of 28-24. It will be a good game and could go Burton's way because they are tough.
  10. Last score I heard was Honaker 42 TV 26 with about 2 minutes left. I see that was already posted. LOL
  11. After 280 replies, I have nothing to add to this conversation. I do have the blueberry pancake mix to share. LOL!!! Blueberry Pancakes (4 servings) - 1 jar Blueberry Pancake Mix - 1 and 1/4 cups milk - 1 large egg - beaten - 2 Tablespoons vegetable or canola oil In a large bowl, mix the milk, egg and oil. Add the pancake mix to the wet ingredients and and mix until just combined. Heat a skillet or frying pan to medium-high and give it generous coating of cooking spray. Dollop batter in 1/4 cup amounts to make each pancake. Cook until edges are dry and middles are filled with bubbles. Flip and cook the other side to golden brown (about 2 or 3 minutes per side). Serve with butter and maple syrup. Enjoy!
  12. Galax would be a bad draw for anyone in the 1st. round. 75 points...ugh!
  13. If Tazewell can't defend the out and up to #5 then it will be a long night. I think the QB for Grundy does a good job. Don't be surprised to see Grundy pull out a win.
  14. Narrows just got 26 points from that one game. Narrows will move up the ladder a lot if they got some help from the other teams they have already played this season.
  15. Grundy 55 Riverview, WV 20 Final Grundy has really good shot of being 4-0 after Friday night. The Wave travel to East Ridge, KY.
  16. Belfry had over 500 yards rushing against Tates Creek. TC's QB had almost 300 yards passing. Belfry will have to tighten up the defense to make a another state title run because the spread has prevented them from having 6 or 7 state titles instead of the 4 they currently own. Coach Haywood for Belfry is closing in on 400 victories. I think he is at 390 victories and is 12th all-time in the nation.
  17. Good report on the games. Hurley pulled their starters against Chilhowie with 2 minutes left in the 1st. period. The 2nd's gave up some points because Chilhowie never subbed their 1's. Hurley had a nice goal line stand against Ridgeview in the 1st quarter to keep it 0-0. Hurley ensuing drive was a nice drive until goofy penalties by Hurley stalled it deep on the Ridgeview side. The 4th and forever was more than the Rebels could pick-up. I thought the Rebels 1st. team played good against Ridgeview's 1st. team. The Hurley and Ridgeview both pulled starters when it went 14-0 in the 2nd. period. Twin Valley was without a major contributor in Shortridge and I think a couple other starters. Sykes got banged up against Central so Crigger started subbing. I honestly think that TV is better that Eastside and Chilhowie at full strength. TV looked good last week at their scrimmage. Ridgeview High School looks great and they have a super nice stadium. I think it will get really cold up there in Oct. because I got a little cold tonight. LOL After 31 years of seeing Coach Colley in Haysi red it looked strange seeing him in the new colors.
  18. Narrows, to be honest, has some good looking athletes. #50, #2 and a couple of lineman looked really good.I think they need a new direction in coaching or the current coach needs to evolve to today's coaching style. Hurley has played Narrows I think every year since TV has held this jamboree and it's always the same formula. They get off the bus, look good warming up, start out playing hard, Hanz and Franz have them jacked up after a few good hits and then the dictator ( the coach)gets in their face after one mistake and seems the kids shut down. I don't care much for his tactics. Scrimmages are instructional time...tell them what they did wrong and show them how to correct it and then move on to the next play. I think the dictator ran out of gas against Grundy because of the heat because he seemed quieter. It was freaking hot and humid yesterday!
  19. Shelby Valley lost in the AA semi-finals last year. SV is a wing-t school and is suppose to be returning just about everybody on both sides of the ball. Hurley is playing them again this year. Ridgeview is playing Eastside in the first game and Hurley in the nightcap. I look forward to visiting the new school. Ridgeview Football Jamboree August 21, 2015 4:00 Ridgeview vs Eastside 5:00 Central vs Chilhowie 6:00 Eastside vs Twin Valley 7:00 Hurley vs Chilhowie 8:00 Central vs Twin Valley 9:00 Ridgeview vs Hurley
  20. What is your high school running? If it's wing-t for example, then run about 5-6 plays of wing-t and maybe 2 formations. Richlands, Giles, Belfry, Ky and Haysi are a few teams that come to mind that have youth teams running a version of their varsity offense. There may be more but I haven't seen every youth team. The defense can be harder to do depending on the rules for each league but I still think you can pull off a version of the varsity defense. First thing, don't worry about wins and losses. Nobody remembers youth league titles!!! You are teaching fundamentals at this level. Have fun and play everyone. When they get to high school is when the kid should take it serious because they are playing for playoffs and titles.
  21. Todd did a good job at Castlewood and Grundy. Good choice! The parents will like him and kids will also.
  22. Mtn. Mission in Grundy would be tough in 1A basketball if they are allowed to join the VHSL
  23. Hmmm. You think Colley would look good in Blue and Gold of Grundy? Just saying....
